Don Pendleton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, December 12, 1927 and died October 23, 1995 in Arizona.

He wrote mystery, action/adventure, science-fiction, crime fiction, suspense, short stories, nonfiction, and was a comic scriptwriter, poet, screenwriter, essayist, and metaphysical scholar. He published more than 125 books in his long career, and his books have been published in more than 25 foreign languages with close to two hundred million copies in print throughout the world.

After producing a number of science-fiction and mystery novels, Don launched in 1969 the phenomenal Mack Bolan: The Executioner, which quickly emerged as the original, definitive Action/Adventure series. His successful paperback books inspired a new particularly American literary genre during the early 1970's, and Don became known as "the father of action/adventure."

"Although The Executioner Series is far and away my most significant contribution to world literature, I still do not perceive myself as 'belonging' to any particular literary niche. I am simply a storyteller, an entertainer who hopes to enthrall with visions of the reader's own incipient greatness."

Don Pendleton's original Executioner Series are now in ebooks, published by Open Road Media. 37 of the original novels.

What starts as a typical mob hit quickly evolves into Bolan becoming a harbinger of doom to anyone who harms an innocent child. We’ve seen Bolan pissed off numerous times before this book. He’s been pretty ticked off at terrorists and the KGB, and of course, his anger at the mafia for directly causing the death of his family is what started his crusade in the first place, but we’ve NEVER seen Mack Samuel Bolan with as much white hot rage as we see him in “Save The Children”. In this 94th entry into the series Bolan is on an absolute warpath, slaughtering nearly everyone he comes into contact with, from mafia bosses to pornographers to sick individuals who get their rocks off with children. Nobody is safe and nobody can escape the avenging force of nature of The Executioner. Mertz truly knocked it out of the park with this one as it’s an excellent example of how much fun this series can be. It’s relentlessly action packed, with a shootout in a health club, a car chase, a gunfight on a boat, a shootout in a porn studio, a fist fight in a bar, and explosions in a trucking yard. All of which are multiple pages and written in a cinematic style that’s been missing from these books for awhile. The bad guys are actually bad, the good guys are realistic in that they aren’t perfect in their thoughts and/or actions, but are likable, and Bolan plays his title to the hilt, executing pretty much every single antagonist that’s presented in this book. And for once, everything makes sense and Bolan’s quest this time out is something that any sane person could get behind. Even if you don’t read every one of these books (there’s over 400 in the main books alone), “Save the Children” is one you SHOULD pick up.
