Written by Dave “Zeb” Cook, one of my favourite TSR writers this differed from most of the original run of FASERIP Marvel adventures by having a Team Up of heroes, specifically The Heroes for Hire, Daredevil, and Black Widow. The plot is good: we get a sentinel event bringing everyone together (with some sideline plots too), then a balance of investigation (the core part of two chapters, with some minor scraps to keep the action going), with good set scenes (Kraven’s HQ; AIM base, with both Taskmaster and cybernetic minions, and MODOK).
Although fairly linear, as all these Marvel modules were, the plot evolves naturally and the investigation chapters have a novel point crawl style to them reminiscent of later DND styles. The combats weren’t massively balanced, mainly with the inclusion of Luke Cage who is much stronger than the other three. But who cares? This is a game biased towards heroes winning, albeit with some degree of struggle.
As a note, I’ve chosen this module to update and use with the new Marvel Multiverse RPG. For a Rank 3 team of four it’s needed some beefing up (although the original characters were three rank 3 and one rank 2), with some additional villains to boost Kraven, adjust Taskmaster’s cyborg flunkies, and give MODOK some muscle. I’d also chose to trim off the last chapter, and add a bonus finale (with Red Skull and Anim Zola, expanding the SHIELD infiltration subplot).
