Amazon Best Seller in Human-Computer Interaction A Humanitarian Approach to a Technologically Innovative Future In The transHuman Code , authors Carlos Moreira and David Fergusson ask, ''Are we building a better future for humanity with the help of magnificent technology or are we instead building a better future of better technology at the expense of humanity?'' We must learn to put humanity first instead of getting caught up in the promise of technological advancement. Humans have been able to adapt, morph, and compromise in every situation we have faced over the centuries and have been able to maintain dominance. We must approach the promises of technology with the same adaptability. What the authors propose is that if we start the design of the transHuman future from a human perspective, making sure that technology will inspire revolution or evolution, then we can ensure humanity continues to thrive. The transHuman Code tries to center humanity in the emerging tension between a human-controlled or a machine-controlled world. Moreira and Fergusson examine how humans can maintain the uniqueness and the humanity in this brave new world.
First of all, this isn't a book about transhumanism. The authors admit this in the introduction. Why title the book as such? Is it to draw in readers who were looking for something else, only to be irritated?
The content itself is surface-level musings about coming changes in human society as result of technological changes and how we can respond. Nothing in this book is particularly original; all topics have been covered elsewhere in more depth and with greater scholarship. Between the misleading title and the bland content, I'm not sure who the audience is for this book.
The second half of this book is interviews with "thought leaders," some of which I found odd. I have no interest in Philip Morris's innovation practices. Tobacco companies are trash and they should not be innovating; they should be going out of business.
As someone who works in I.T., I am always wondering where technology will take us in the near future. It's amazing to see how far we've come in the past 5, 10, 15 years... Who knows where we will be in another 5?
The capabilities of AI are fascinating and terrifying.. We are well on our way to having technology work FOR us rather than WITH us.
Even now, we have AI serving us up targeted Ads on a platter - remember that crockpot you were talking about the other day? Oh hey look! An AD - for the SAME crockpot. Marketers use all these insane analytics to better target their niche groups - and they do a very good job at influencing purchases in this way. Most social media platforms all have a way of getting this info to us - Facebook, Instagram, even Snapchat.
We are living in an overflow of information. We cannot deny that.
As with all controversial things, there is a positive and negative side to having technology so integrated into our lives.
This is where the future is headed - whether you embrace it or not.
I won a Kindle edition of this book through a Goodreads giveaway, for which I'd like to thank the publisher and authors.
I asked my partner, who runs with geeky people, "Hey, what's transhumanism?" The answer I received was NOT even close to what this book discussed - no way, no how. I entered the giveaway wanting to know more about what people expect transhumanism to be ... so that was a disappointment and a bit (if not a lot) confusing. (note: the authors make it clear on page 5 that they are not going to discuss transhumanism, but instead focus on the Human part of AI - so why the oh-so-close title to something buzzwordy that your book will not discuss?)
What this book discusses is how to make AI more "human" - taking into account ethical, moral, and more human emotional actions for technology. Each chapter opens with a story related to the topic the authors wish to cover. The stories are interesting (kinda sorta) but while they illustrated a point, I didn't find the writing engaging. I also wasn't a fan of the follow-up questions at the end of each chapter suggesting people think about the issues and have discussions (online? via social media? over coffee with co-workers?) about said questions.
This wasn't the book for me and I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone, but it was a fast read (when I wasn't skimming) and I'm sure for some people it will be a thought provoking book.
I’m fascinated by the trans HUMANITY (because this is what the book is about, not Trans HUMANISM) topic. Not because I agree with it, but because I want to know EVERYTHING about it so I can FIGHT IT. AI and technology are the enemy of humanity. If put into the hands of the unrighteous, evil, sadistic, Lucifer worshiping psychopaths that seem to control all society, humanity is in BIG trouble. They have had advanced technology for decades and have been using in without the population knowing for decades. This technology is not new. They’ve been slowing introducing it to season us up for accepting it as “normal”. You cannot created life with technologies. Once you start controlling people’s emotions artificially, whether it’s through mind manipulation or the lack of truthful information, we as humans start to March along like little sheep, becoming the slaves these evil elite want us to be.
The book has nothing to do with transhumanism. It raises important issues about technological advancements and it authors argue for these to be grounded on enhancing humanity. The relationship between tech and humanity needs to explored to avoid unintended consequences. The authors argue for using technology as a means to meeting human needs like food, water and education to name a few. Technology should not make people to be worse off, which means that it mustn’t perpetuate inequality. An interesting read but not so engaging. I did enjoy reading the last section on “Conversations with the innovators”.
I received The TransHuman Code: How To Program Your Future through a Goodreads Giveaway.
The concept of The TransHuman Code is what caught my eye originally, it's a fascinating subject and I was instantly curious. Thanks to this book, I now look at the world and technology with new eyes, seeing if our advancements are truly worth what we are sacrificing. The authors did a wonderful job with this book. It's well written, educational and inspiring.
This is a thought provoking look at how we can and should implement technology to improve the world and humanity. It also takes a look at what needs to be done to ensure the safety and security of the technology we implement.
In response to the many reviews, I want to make people aware that this seemingly innocent book and it's authers, espouse the Globalists' ONE World Order design that communist thinking elites have been pushing for many decades.
This innocent little title is just a bait to focus the attention on the Transgender comunity. Of course it has nothing to do with them only to present the future of the new world order. Comunisn. That is the final hidden message of this book. Good luck with it.
This was a great read about humanity and what the future holds for technology. It does seem to drag on at times but it is still well written and placed. I recommend this book.
