Book 8 of this well-written, dark, and gritty British police procedural finds former (and about to be again) DCI John Meredith finally marrying his beloved Patsy Hodge, also a former police officer, seconds before he gets arrested for being a bent copper. They have to figure out who’s got it in for him. The list is endless, and figuring it out puts Meredith, Hodge, and their families in harm’s way.

I liked this book for so many reasons – great scene-setting, snappy dialogue, edge-of-your-seat action, well-drawn characters (including the secondary ones), complicated crimes, and of course, Meredith and Hodge finally making it to the altar. The last book in the series took a weird hard left into British-manor-house-locked-room-almost-cozy for me, and that’s not why I read this series. This book once again had everything I loved – Meredith being brilliantly imperious, putting people in their places; Patsy retaining her identity even as she moves into the role of wife; each of the secondary characters getting some time in the sun; dark crimes; a host of unlikeable and likeable suspects; and an ending I didn’t see coming.

I recommend these be read in order, because each story builds on the previous one, and watching the relationship between Meredith and Hodge grow and change, and the other characters evolve, is half the fun. The only drawback I can see to this series, and it’s a minor one, is that one of the secondary characters carries the same name as a political figure I’m not particularly fond of. Initially it took me out of the story, but now I just set that to the side and read on, especially since there’s so much to like about the series, and I am such a fan of Meredith and Hodge.

Meredith is trying to get back to work after his accident. But things are not going as well as he was hoping they would, and then there is a wedding to attend to. The wedding is ruined when Meredith is arrested and his half brother turns up with a body in the boot of his car. Yep, that will put and end to a wedding. It seems an old adversary is trying to ruin Meredith’s life before he wipes out everyone Meredith cares about. Patsy and Amanda are being stalked and are in the sights of a sadistic killer.
Meredith tries to figure out who is responsible for all this mess, Hodge goes off on her own and ends up in the clutches of the man who is trying to ruin Meredith! He tells Meredith that Hodges won't make it out alive. Can Meredith save Hodges and find out who the killer is? Just when you think you have it figured out....you guessed wrong! I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.

I am new to the Meredith and Hodge series (yes start at book 8 way to go!) Anyway I was lucky enough to be given an advanced copy and to leave an honest review. This review is based on my own thoughts and feelings about the storyline. Without reading previous books in the series i wondered if I would get to know the characters enough to enjoy it. No worries there thanks Marcia - within a few pages i was already hooked as the main characters came to life within my imagination. I loved this book and although I did guess 'who did it' before the last page i was so enmeshed in the story I nearly missed my tram stop! It was hard to put down as we followed Meredith across country lines to solve the puzzle and gathering all the clues.
Brilliant Marcia I will now start on book 1 and work my way through like 'normal' people!!
Highly recommended and can be read as a standalone

This is the best Meredith and Hodge book so far. It has intrigue, humour, surprise, criminal activity, twists and turns and just a touch of romance. Not to mention it's so gripping you won't work out who is behind the crimescuntil the end. Just the right mix of everything this dynamic duo bring to this crime series. Highly Recommend.

I read this book in two days and loved it. I wasn’t keen on the last one which felt a bit Agatha Christie like but I loved this one! It felt like we were back to the characters we have grown to know and love in the environment they are best in.
How can Meredith be in two places at once? It doesn't take long before we find out why his wedding day is interupted and before he and Hodge are dashing about solving crimes and catching villains!!
A must for anyone who is a fan of Meredith & Hodge and if you've not met them yet, I definitely recommend starting at book 1!

One of the best crime/mystery/police series for a long time this 8th Meredith & Hodge book once again had me hooked. Lots of mystery, intrigue and twists to keep the story jogging along. Meredith is his usual sarcastic self and Patsy is a good match for him. Glad they finally tied the knot.

As the story is set outside Meredith's usual location many of the regular characters are missing in all but brief mentions which is a shame as Peggy, Loopy & Sherlock etc are so much a part of the series. Hopefully they will all be back together in the next book.

Thoroughly enjoyable book with excellent narration.

I received a free copy of this audiobook either from the author or a promotion or giveaway and am voluntarily writing an honest and unbiased review.

Meredith and Hodge can't even get married without trouble cropping up! As Meredith steps out of the registry office he is asked to accompany two detectives from Plymouth to the station on robbery charges. This throws Meredith and Hodge neck deep into past grievances, murder, and betrayal. Another fine book from M. K. Turner

Family matters/M. TURNER

In this series #8 Meredith and Hodge finally get married , their honeymoon is cut short of Meredith getting arrested and find out the charges are because him being framed by a looked alike who committed these crime, whom turn out to be his half brother whom he was unaware of. Hodge and Meredith are on the hunt to find out why along with all of his friends In the force. This series was as spellbinding as all the other series, it kept you in tenderloins up to the ending. Cannot wait for the next series of Meredith and hodge. I cannot express how much I loved this seri by the aurhor. Made me feel like I knew the characters and want to know more, they are fascinating.

Meredith and Hodge step in it once again. They can't even seem to take a relaxing holiday. MK Turner produced another outstanding novel with Family Matters. This book is a bit different than others in the series but just as twisted, humorous and incredible. As always the characters are well developed and even though the honeymoon period of their marriage isn't proceeding in the usual manner Hodge does an amazing job of keeping Meredith in line.....ummm...the jury is out on how he actually sees this piece. Lee Beddow continues to do a remarkable job of narrating and infusing life into MK Turner's engaging adventures.
