COULD A WOMAN TAKE CHARGE OF HER OWN DESTINY?
I am very impressed with this debut novel by new author, Dana Alden, and looking forward to book 2 in the Mountain Men of Montana series, Mining For Love. The story has mystery, suspense, danger, angst, fear, determination, courage, and strong characters. The story is a clean, historical romantic suspense tale with a diverse cast of characters, plenty of interaction, a touch of mystery, a dash of romance, plenty of danger that will keep this tale on course. You will have the good, the bad, and the ugly of people, but you also will be engrossed in a tale that will keep the pages turning with the happily ever after ending.
The plot will have Amanda leaving Massachusetts and setting across the country to join her step-brother, Samuel, in Virginia City, Montana. She will travel to help a couple whose wife is expecting, to earn her way, but with her death, that leaves Amanda in a bind. She will join a group of miners being lead to Virginia City where she will cook and mend clothing along the trail. But when danger happens with an ambush, her safety is in jeopardy, and it will all change with the arrival of a mountain man, Cal Ayers. He and Amanda will leave Mr. Smith’s group to keep her safe and hopefully, divert any other attacks. That is where this tale will take the reader. Not everyone is as they portray themselves and eventually they will meet their comeuppance.
“And so, Amanda Hildreth left the pack train to ride off into a new part of the wilderness on a horse named Miss Molly, with a scruffy mountain man named Calvin Ayers.”
