COULD A WOMAN TAKE CHARGE OF HER OWN DESTINY?

I am very impressed with this debut novel by new author, Dana Alden, and looking forward to book 2 in the Mountain Men of Montana series, Mining For Love. The story has mystery, suspense, danger, angst, fear, determination, courage, and strong characters. The story is a clean, historical romantic suspense tale with a diverse cast of characters, plenty of interaction, a touch of mystery, a dash of romance, plenty of danger that will keep this tale on course. You will have the good, the bad, and the ugly of people, but you also will be engrossed in a tale that will keep the pages turning with the happily ever after ending.

The plot will have Amanda leaving Massachusetts and setting across the country to join her step-brother, Samuel, in Virginia City, Montana. She will travel to help a couple whose wife is expecting, to earn her way, but with her death, that leaves Amanda in a bind. She will join a group of miners being lead to Virginia City where she will cook and mend clothing along the trail. But when danger happens with an ambush, her safety is in jeopardy, and it will all change with the arrival of a mountain man, Cal Ayers. He and Amanda will leave Mr. Smith’s group to keep her safe and hopefully, divert any other attacks. That is where this tale will take the reader. Not everyone is as they portray themselves and eventually they will meet their comeuppance.

“And so, Amanda Hildreth left the pack train to ride off into a new part of the wilderness on a horse named Miss Molly, with a scruffy mountain man named Calvin Ayers.”

Really? At the time of me writing this review, the GR rating is 4.24. Really? I'm shocked. I mean it wasn't horrible and I actually finished the whole book, but.... It was a very squeaky-clean, amateur at best story that took place in all of a few days. The only mountainy thing about this mountain man was the fact that he had a beard. Other than that, he was clean, very well-mannered, extremely courteous to the heroine and was in fact lonely and looking for a wife. The heroine had no sense of danger at all and was more often than not TSTL. The hero and heroine basically fell in love with each other during a 24-hour'ish horse ride to the next town. No kissing, no hand holding... I think their respect and love for nature is what got stars in the eyes for each other. (eye roll)

Rescued by the Mountain Man by Dana Alden. Dana Alden is a new author and Rescueby the Mountain Man is her debut book. This is the story of Cal Ayers, A mountain man and Amanda Hildreth. Set in Bozeman where the author lives she give such a description of the area that even if you never seen it, you can see it in your mind. This is a clean, sweet romance that you can read in one sitting. Some twists and turns, villains and a good story line will have you turning the pages until the end. Well done Ms. Alden! I will be watching for more from you.

In this historical Western romance, all the facets for a suspenseful, adventurous romance come together. Cal Ayers makes a drool-worthy hero whilst Amanda is a heroine I could easily relate to. She has courage and determination, but that doesn’t exempt her from experiencing fear in the face of eminent danger. I enjoyed the insights into pioneer life as well as the glimpses of history. The story is well written with a good plot and kept my attention all the way through. The story is a standalone with a happy ending and can be read by most age groups.

This is a new-to-me author and I love the western romance genre' so immediately, I wanted to read this book. It is a clean story without profanity, in-depth shootings and no sensual content. Amanda went west alone to find her step-brother, Samuel, and make a life for herself. Along the way she has problems, death around her and harsh conditions. Thanks for a nice read. I re-read this book in 2021 and found it was still interesting.

Bumpy ride

Cute story but a little syrupy at bits. Not very smooth presentation. Felt a little “see Jane run” at times. Loved that it was unencumbered by unnecessary sex scenes, but is anyone truly ever that dewy eyed and naive? The timeline was a bit unrealistic, which lends one to think not much research went into this “historic” novel.

My review today is on a Historical Western Romance, Rescued by the Mountain Man. I was sent this book to read it, I was not required to review it but this is a great read and I want to share with you. This story is well written, action packed, and heart warming. I know you will love it.

Amanda Hildreth leaves her job at the mill when her foreman makes advances toward her. She leaves the East to find her brother in the Montana Territories. He wrote that he owns a mercantile; she hopes to work for him and become independent. She hires on with a family in a wagon train; the wife is pregnant and she is to help her. The wife and her twin babies die. The husband expects her to step into his wife shoes. She then joins up with a freighter and his company and works for her passage. A mountain man joins them and shares some time with Smithy, their boss. They soon find out that they are being followed, the men attack the freighters and they learn that these men are after Amanda. The mountain man takes Amanda and heads for the mountains to save her.

Cal Ayers is a part time trapper, part time miner, and part time homesteader. He agrees to help this woman over the mountain and to find her brother. He wants to help the beautiful woman, it's obvious that she's in trouble. When they are accosted by another mountain man saying he was after her, Cal told him the woman wasn't Amanda but his fiancee. Unfortunately as he becomes more fond of her he must admit to her that he is sort of engaged to someone else. If only he was free.

A terrifying journey over the mountain as men chase them down. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him work out your mess.

Amanda Hildreth was forced to make a new life for herself out west after she was blackballed by the factories in Lowell, MA from speaking up about poor working conditions. She travels as a companion for an expectant mother, but when the woman dies, her husband and the other men on the mule train try to force her to either marry or give up her virtue. She’s on her way to meet up with her step-brother Samuel, thinking he has a successful mercantile, not realizing he’s a scoundrel, who has crossed the wrong person. Because of him her life is on the line. Mountain Man Cal Ayers offers to protect and get her to safety, but he can’t protect his heart from her even though he’s already promised to someone else from back home. Amanda comes to realize that she can’t trust anyone even those who appear innocent. There was a lot of adventure, humor, and romance in this historical western.

Unlikely but successful romance

Amanda wasn't waiting for a reply. Her step-brother might say no. So she mailed her letter, and she was heading West to join him in Virginia City. Working in the mills in Lowell, Massachusetts, just wasn't working out for her anymore. "The best laid plans oft go astray." There's a reason that's a well-known saying. Things certainly went astray for Amanda. Once her travel logistics were cleared up, she still had to locate her missing step-brother and find out what was going on. Why were men hunting her? What happened to his mercantile? Why did he lie in his letters home to Mom and Dad? Her travel problems were solved by the local mountain man, Cal. She found her brother by opening the door to the wrong men. But with a carefully worded secret message, she and her mountain man got their HEA. Recommended.

WHAT WILL SHE DO

One never knows what the future holds never mind the next twenty four hours. A young woman leaves Boston, Massachusetts for the frontier. Her stepmother settled in Montana territory where he supposedly opened a mercantile store in the town of Virginia City.
As things go, Amanda has just discovered that her stepbrother fell on hard times owed money because of his lousy card playing. So he becomes a robber, shoots the brother of a gangster, whose now posing as Pastor Frank(imposter) looking for revenge and the missing gold.
Well the Mountain Man Cal and Amanda get married and are now building their cabin with the storefront and wood floors are looking forward to sharing a happy life together in the cold, beautiful mountains of Montana.

Well written and accurate.

I was pleased to find a western/mountain man book written by a woman. About a woman. And a smart sensible woman at that. No screaming and swooning for this girl. It was accurate to the time and place. The life wasn't easy and peeing in the woods was the least of the concerns women faced at that time. But it was amusing to have that included. This book was a reminder that the fellas didn't settle and populate the West by themselves. There were women, a lot of women standing with them.

Despair

This was a good book written by Dana Alden and I enjoyed reading it. A young woman, a mountain man, a pack of mules, a long trip, attacked, going off on different route, finding out they're after you, loving the beautiful scenery, falling in love, finding out bad news, checking out the truth, a dying brother, kidnapped, threaten, will there be a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading a good book. Buy the book and see what happens.

Cal Ayers is a Mountain man looking to settle on his property in the West. He travels from time to time and encounters a small group of travelers heading to Montana. Amanda left the mills in the East to head to Montana and find her step brother in the hopes of working for him there. Little did she know how difficult and dangerous traveling to the West can be. Sweet historical romance full of adventure.

Unusual type of love!

This is not the typical cat and mouse run of the mill love story. The story/characters asked questions and that made the book more interesting. There was unexpected surprises and I actually thought one guy was not really dead. I love the way how another character pretended to be some one he wasn't and how that played out. Yes, this was a nice, clean, action pack, good read that ended with love. I enjoyed reading this book!

Mountain Men Of Montana book number of Montana book number one

I chose this rating because of the spell binding story , I loved the way that Cal was cast as a mountain man and he acted like it by giving away that he had mining, and farming as well! Amanda was such a brave sole to take such trip alone!

Enjoyed reading this book

I really enjoyed the writing style of this author. The book moved along at a good pace with just the right amount of dialogue, action and the characters inner thoughts. Amanda was determined to reach her step-brother and begin a new life. There's a great twist near the end that I won't reveal and spoil your fun.

A clean easy to read in one sitting story with great characters set in old west Montana. Beautiful scenery. A nice story line, unfolding in a somewhat unrealistic time line but an enjoyable read nonetheless. An average happily ever after romance but found it enough entertainment for me to read the follow up story.

A nice escape to Montana

This a very clean novel with a young woman traveling west to work in her brothers general store. The mountain man, Cal, happened by to rescue her from “someone”. The scenery was portrayed very well with plenty of intrigue and planning to be done.
I enjoyed this story and it was a lite pleasant read.

A sweet adventure

Cal and Amanda's story is one of innocence and growth. Thrown together in the midst of traveling to Montana, they grow to have feelings for each other, although they don't speak of it. Amanda is being followed by a man that her stepbrother wronged, and danger lurks constantly. Their happy ending will put a smile on any reader's face.
