After finishing this, I'm left with questions I can't answer, doubts that I never thought I had, and some painful truth I can finally see. 🍂💔😭.
RTC.💔
This book felt like the warmest hug and this is going to stay with me forever and ever and everrrrr. 💌🤍
Now, before ANYONE of you says that "Hindi books are boring. They are not for me. I don't know how you read this." STOP. RIGHT NOW. SHUT UP. Think a thousand times before uttering anything against Hindi books and this book is the proof for that.
To be honest, my dad reads Hindi books and even I used to have the same perspective for Hindi books and after seeing many many people recommend this, I chose to read this and OH MY GOD. I was wrong and each and everyone of you who thinks that is wrong as well.
Well... now enough of warning y'all. Now let's get to the plot. So the story starts from Varanasi, a very holy and peaceful city in India. Now, after reading this, I feel so proud to say that I am from Varanasi and there are many places like cafes, libraries and bookstores that I have been to and they are actually mentioned in the book. The plot is really nice. So calm and soothing.
Here, two people randomly meet each other in a pizzeria on the ghats of Varanasi and then they decide to meet each other on 10th October every year. Just one day in a year. Just imagine, taking one day out of your very busy schedule and life just to meet someone who you don't even know that properly.
The main characters, Chitra and Sudeep feel so real and relatable. Their relationship cannot be described in words. It's more than any other emotion in the world. Love or friendship seem so small to describe it. It's just ...so beautiful.
The writing style 🙌
This is amazing. Just amazing. I don't have words to describe that but it's just wonderful. I love how his words connect with the readers. The author has a very unique style which makes it even more special. After the main story ended, he wrote that he won't continue the rest of the story and will leave it to us. It's on us how we want the story to end. It's not a cliffhanger ending but just a happy, satisfying one.
Now, I definitely didn't expect it to end the way it ended. It was traumatizing and I definitely cried. But, after all that happened, the quiet, hidden message in the book healed me. After the traumatizing end, that message was all I needed.
This book is definitely going to stay with me forever and being someone who is from Varanasi, I know how magical this place is. I have felt that several times and it's just something that happens when you go to the ghats and sit there. Apart from the book, I am telling you, if you ever come to Varanasi, just go to a ghat. Not the one which you saw on social media. A quiet underrated one and sit there. Do nothing. Just sit there and suddenly the world will freeze. Every negative you have in you will flow away with the flowing river Ganga.
QUOTES:
Translation:
If a girl or a boy ever asks, “Why should we meet?”
and the other person gives a perfectly clear, exact answer,
then you probably shouldn’t meet them at all.
But the one who says,
“Let’s meet and see,”
that’s the person you should meet.
Because in “meeting and seeing”
there’s a quiet hope —
a hope of finding something,
of losing your way a little,
of slowing down for a moment.
A hope that even disappointment might be worth it.
After all, what’s the point of a journey
walked with too much caution,
too much thought?

Sometimes, stepping away for a short while
is the quiet, unseen preparation
for finding your way back
when it truly matters —
and for staying far longer
than you ever could have before.

AMAZINGGGGG 🤌🙂↕️
Every unfinished meeting carries within it
the hope of a meeting yet to be complete.
And every meeting that feels complete
eventually becomes an unfinished one
before the next “complete” meeting arrives.
In the end, it’s this one incomplete hope
that keeps us from truly growing old,
even as the years pass through us.

Real bro.
Look around, and you’ll find
the world gives no sign at all
of how many hidden tears
each wandering soul is quietly carrying.

These lines be hitting so hard.
The whole world, day and night,
seems designed in such a way
that people are left with almost no time
to look within themselves.

Now come the best, the most beautiful quotes of this book. My most favourite ones.
Here we go:
.....😶
The story we are a part of
may never find its writer.
And perhaps that is the greatest tragedy of this world—
that there may never be anyone
to truly tell our story.
No one will ever fully know
what we carried inside our minds,
what we longed for,
what we feared,
or who we really were.
Who we were…
that question will walk away with us.
People will say a few kind sentences —
“He was such a good man,”
“She was such a wonderful woman,”
and that will be it.
That’s all the world remembers.
That’s all any story becomes.

Only a true banarasi can understand this.

but only a rare few find their way into it.”

How can someone not be proud of living in such a city!?
“Why do people come to Banaras?”
“I don’t know why… but I know when they come.”
“When?”
“When they can’t see a way forward anymore.”

One of the best dedications I have ever read. 🥹
We have two lives.
One is the life we live every single day.
The other is the life we long to live every single day.
Here’s to that second life.

BESTESTEST LINE OF THIS BOOK.
Banaras… this city, y’know, it lives somewhere
right between truth and dreams.
And lemme tell ya, nobody here can really tell
what’s real and what’s just a dream.
Some folks come here hunting for truth,
others come to forget their dreams.
But Banaras? She’s stubborn, I tell ya.
She’ll turn your truth into a dream
and make your dream feel like it’s the truth.
Life? At the crossroads, it just spins round and round.
Some lucky ones grab a piece of it,
most? Walk away empty-handed.
The city’s moody, y’know.
Doesn’t open up to everyone,
and not everyone can make her open.
It’s deep stuff, I know…
if you get it, good for you.
If not… well, Jai Bhole Nath!
I translated this line with a personal touch in it that just hits perfectly so it's a bit different from the actual line but the meaning is the same.
