This short novella was a lovely introduction to the Townsbridges. It is a refreshing change because all three of the families involved in the story are loving and supportive from the parents on down. I liked the Townsbridge family but would have liked getting a little better feel for each of the siblings. Charles is heir to Viscount Roxley and he has four siblings -- two younger brothers, James and William as well as two sist

Think of this as a historical version of the trope about falling for your significant other’s best friend – just with a whole lot of added consequences.

After a Transatlantic crossing where they had a chance to get to know one another, Lady Bethany agreed to marry Robert, the Earl of Langdon. It seemed like an excellent match – and it possibly might have been. Except for that whole best friend problem.

And because Robert basically saw their engagement as a bu

This was a short novella starting a new series. It involves a forbidden love, some angst, and a HEA. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

As reviewed at Roses Are Blue:

Charles Townsbridge is taking his usual morning walk, when he’s called upon to rescue a runaway hat for a lovely young lady. Though he’d love to find out more about her, he takes his leave because they haven’t been properly introduced. Unfortunately, fate isn’t smiling at Charles, because when he is finally officially introduced, it’s only to find that she is the brand new fiancée of his best friend, Robert.

When Love Leads to Scandal by Sophie Barnes
Review by Georgianna Simpson

This a novella story of Charles Townsbridge and Lady Bethany Andrews.
Charles and Bethany meet by chance in the park when he rescues her flying away bonnet from landing in the lake. Both feel an immediate and strong attraction, but decorum dictates they need to be formally introduced before they can learn more about each other. Each cannot seem to forget the other, but Bethany has just become engaged to Robert, Earl of Langdon

This is a short sweet novella perfect for a quick cozy read to full up on those romance feels. Charles bumps into Bethany and is immediately taken with her, Bethany likewise feels an immediate connection to this handsome stranger. But there is only one problem. Bethany is engaged to Charles' best friend. Both Charles and Bethany try to fight the connection between them and avoid scandal. But can true love be deterred?

Another well written novella from Sophie Barnes

My Thoughts:

I loved this short read by Sophie Barnes.

Her books continue to draw me in be it a full length read or a novella.

This is a book about two people fated to be together and family duty that threatens to tear them apart.

Charles and Bethany are drawn to each other from their first chance meeting but find themselves in a quandary when they are formally introduced to each other.
Charles finds that this young woman is the betrothed of his best fri

This was a beautiful, heartwarming story about two people who were willing to sacrifice their happiness for others. This book has (only) 6 chapters but in those 6 chapters you get to fall deeply in love with both MC's. I loved Charles and his outlook on marriage. I adored him when he was "schooling" his friend about how he should akt towards Bethany.
And I loved him even more when he stepped up when things started to fall apart. He and Bethany were match made in heaven and I was so happy to see

Mr Charles Townsbridge always thought the romantic notion of love at first sight was just something his younger sisters believed in. Now he knows better, but that will not matter now.
Lady Bethany Andrews accepted the proposal of a very eligible man on the journey across the Atlantic. That has saved all the hassel of what her first season in London might have been. Maybe she was too hasty.
A short but fun historical romance with delightful characters. Just wish it had been a bit longer.

A delightful, sweet and light-hearted traditional Regency novella. The story is engaging, with a steamy (but tasteful) love scene at the end. Beautifully written. 😘
