This second edition of a picture book originally published in 1980 has stood the test of time, feeling just as fresh and relevant as it was several decades ago. Originally published in 1980 under the title "The Family Christmas Tree Book," this is a lovely history behind the Christmas tree. DePaola depicts a family out for a Christmas tree hunt. As they select, cut, bring their tree home, and decorate it they hold a discussion about the backgrounds behind the tradition. Love Tomie dePaola! This is a story about the story of Christmas trees and other traditions that we have had and currently have. It however, is a non-fiction/fiction picture book. There is little action and more show and tell. Though classic dePaola illustrations grace the pages.
