Ron Roy has been writing books for children since 1974. He is the author of dozens of books, including the popular A to Z Mysteries®, Calendar Mysteries, and Capital Mysteries. When not working on a new book, Ron likes to teach tricks to his dog Pal, play poker with friends, travel, and read thrilling mystery books.
Mega thanks to Justin for bringing this to my attention. Much better to review this than the little wittle review I wrote for the first book in the series.
So, first off I have to say, I really like mystery books. They are fun to read because they have thrills, laughs, and sometimes scares. When I first saw this series I thought that it wouldn't be that good, because they are small, and don't look to interesting. But then, one day I read the first couple books, and thought that they were really good. I never actually finished the series. Now reading them again (and reading the whole series this time) I still think that is is a good series. Some of the books are good, some are great, and some are amazing. But over all, this series is a great kiddy mystery series. Dink, Josh, and Ruth Rose are great characters in this mystery set. They always end up finding out who did it and stop them. 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don't usually put books I'm reading with my kids on goodreads, but I've found it really helpful to hear from other parents, so I'm trying to do the same!
My kids would wake up in the morning and ask to read these books! They repeat jokes the characters say and reference the books often. We loved trying to solve the mysteries and guess who was guilty. My kids are 4 and 5 and they were just the right length (80 pages with a frequent illustrations) and complexity. Although they were written in the 90s, so I did have to explain what a camcorder is and why they had to look things up at the library instead of a phone 😂
These were some of my favorite books!! I read every single one multiple times! Ruth rose was my favorite and I wanted to wear all one color to be like her! I read these for years probably since I first learned to read until like 4th grade. My favorite was the one about the author, and the bald bandit. -August 2022
Great read together books for six year olds. The recurring characters have entertaining characteristics, Ruth Rose screaming so loud the other characters have to cover their ears. The plot is not formulaic. Just the right amount of suspense. Clever discoveries and solutions.
These are the chapter books that my son finally picked up and adored. As a teacher I really like that the characters are not afraid to be intelligent. Ron Roy not only engages children in his books, but teaches them to use their brains to solve problems with their friends. As a parent and teacher, I respect his philosophy and it makes me even more confident in my kids reading this series and others by Ron Roy. Blogged about the books here --> http://bit.ly/t1Vc9x
A great series for the new reader. Troy, at 8, burned through these books in a couple of weeks, he was reading 1 a day. The story line, for the most part, moves quickly and is well developed. The heros are interesting and loveable, and the books are short enough to not be intimidating. A great choice for kids!
This book series was one of my absolute favorites from my childhood, and some of the stories still stick with me to this day. Each story actually had a very good mystery and how the team of kids in the books solved it. This story definitely demonstrates teamwork and problem solving the most. I think these books are perfect mysteries for older aged elementary children.
The boys sat still night after night for these. We read one right after another and they couldn't get enough. But really, what's up with children's books using the word "said" about 15 times/page? Drives me batty.
My 8 year old daughter discovered this series on her own. She loved the series so much she ask for the entire series for her main Christmas present. Now that's a recommendation!
