They’ll do anything to protect her... as long as they never learn her secret.

I’m Officer Essie Shaw, and I shouldn’t exist. If anyone finds out their friendly neighborhood beat cop is a nephilim — public enemy number one — I’ll be imprisoned. Or worse, dissected. I survive by keeping my head down and my barely-there magic under wraps.

But when I lose a fight with a

This book was pretty good however the author was just a little long winded and the heroine kinda got on my nerves with her indecisiveness... But that's not going to stop me from reading the next installment of this series...

Eh, this wasn't so bad. I have certainly read worse. I liked that the heroine is not lusting over all the guy yet( she kind of is, but not crazy crazy lust) so that's good. Everything is nice and neatly explained.

The heroine doesn't seem able to make her own decisions though, she is always steered into the decision she makes. Also, a little selfishness on her part would be nice. She's known these guys for a couple of days/weeks and she's already self sacrificing. Please. No one is like that.

Alright Cam I’m putting down an amazing part of book 2 just to review this. Mainly because Abi needs some praise for bringing this to my attention and I’m really glad she did! This is why we need good friends in the RH genre, recommendations are the best!

First this series is finished so I’m able to go straight into the next one which is a great feeling. I can tell this is going to be a binge session

Why have I giving this 4 stars when I’m about to burst with excitement to get back to book 2
Namera [The Literary Invertebrate]

Very slow-burn (right now she's only attracted to one of the four men) reverse-harem with intensely self-sacrificing heroine, whom I'd prefer to see more anger from; the plot set-up is reminiscent of Debbie Cassidy's RH books.

Weakness is not a virtue

The plot and the story foundation was great. I couldn't wait to see a kick butt heroine deal with her being something that is forbidden. I liked the intent. I was very disappointed. She let those guys walk all over her because of her being a nephilim and I just didn't understand why. Then she has that other Angel girl talk down to her. I mean everyone within the story looked down on her. I felt like saying WTH do something. I honestly looked at her as a weak character and

So I actually don’t remember much of the first half of this book.

I started it and then left it to read another book.

I came back with a renewed freshness and I liked it.

Yes, I liked it. Even if I don’t remember half of it very much.

The characters:
Essie: she really just wants to be regular. But oh no honey, you were written into the plot of an RH novel so your life won’t be regular.
Gideon: lol I kinda feel sorry for him. The love of his life dies, and then he finds out the chick he’s been so
Destined Darkness starts out with a heroine who has a secret, and she has to do everything she can to keep it. That becomes a problem when she is taken to Angel central to help locate a serial killer who is after her.

This book wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed the story, and I'm really intrigued by it, but the heroine got on my nerves at times. Sometimes I really liked her, and then sometimes she was so annoying. Other than that, I'm looking forward to reading more and finding
Really good! I love the world Tessa Cole has created, and the main character, Essie, who is interesting and strong. The plot and the action kept me engaged, and the romantic elements were fun, intriguing, and a bit frustrating (but it's only book one). Overall, I really enjoyed it, and at the time of writing this have binge-read the first three books in the series in one day (I'd start on the next but it's not released for a couple of weeks). Just really good. Urban fantasy RH done right.
I took very few notes for this book, and I read it a month ago, so don't expect too much from this review. I thought this was an enjoyable start to a series that seemed to have good potential.

The MC—Esther, aka Essie—is the last surviving member of a hated species, so she desperately masquerades as a human to avoid death or scientific experiments about her supposedly impossible birth. She is a cop who wants to avoid the supernatural world at all costs, because supernaturals are the ones most

I don't know how to really review this without going on and on trying to explain what I mean so I will try to sum it up.

This is a review of basically 1-4 since I binged read them all, I couldn't stop, yet also got annoyed at things throughout. So take what you want from that. I was annoyed but couldn't stop lol

there was a lot of repetitiveness of her indecision's and things she was worried monologuing in her head and we kept hearing about it over and over and I found myself skimming those bits

This is book one in a paranormal reverse harem series by an author new to me and it is really hitting the spot for me this week - I’m basically binging the series now. It is action-packed, kind of has a crime solving/procedural feel to it and has a slow burn-ish romance complete with some jealousy/possessiveness and at least one taciturn hero. I’m not sure I understand the history of the angels/supers/nephilim world all that well - but I also didn’t care because it wasn’t my focus as I was ...more

Big fat no from me

Don't even bother with this one, its definitely a waste of anyone's time. this RH introduction is just weird an unconvincing, there is no real pull or sparks between these individuals which just makes it weird. She is all about self sacrifice throughout the whole book but is also so damn selfish with only thinking of herself and her own secrets to keep that it doesn't work for her. She's also a cop who seems not to be able to handle tough situation, she's continually having

I tore through this book. I think there was a good balance of the romance element intertwined with the overall paranormal struggles. Nothing here felt particularly fresh or fun (which is the brand of PNR/UF I prefer)...however I can’t deny that this book sucked me in. A few issues:

Marcus: I HATE when love interests are from the past and then we as the reader are expected to just be invested in their relationship—because the author tells us to be. Nothing about their super steamy

Oh, I loved it! Brand new to me author and a red from one of my groups really paid off! So much, action, suspense, and heart pounding drama with a selfless mc! The para element was on point and I'm addicted!

Got through it with a lot of skimming but this story was just missing a soul for me. The main character isn’t particularly likable, isn’t funny, and is not very smart. She just sort of bumbles around thinking about being a martyr. I didn’t believe any of the relationships that are being set up and the plot felt like a series of nonsensical events. The blurb for the book says “they’ll do anything to protect her” and after reading it that makes me lulz. They wouldn’t, hardly any of these people ...more

So good.

I wish I could review this book 10 times! I read a lot of RH, and usually have to slog through a lot of junk. Books like this make it all worth while. Excellent writing and a great plot. Can’t wait for the next one!

I’m gonna write a general review of the series (with no spoilers)
Some aspects were worthy or 4 or 5 stars and others of 2 or 3, that’s why I’m gonna go with 3.
First, I’ve got to say that I’m so into reverse harem it’s not even funny, the last 30 or so books I’ve read were RH. And this one had a set of characters that managed to be quite different from what I’ve read before (there where certain similarities but not stereotypes) and that is the strongest part of the book, the characters.

This was pretty good!

Solid Urban Fantasy setting, plot moved at a decent pace, with some pretty tense moments.

I liked the way all the guys were distinct from one another, and while there is a lot of ground to cover with getting to the know them, I feel like the set up is a solid one.

We've got various kinds of bonds going on here, but I can deal with feelings starting with bonds, if it's slow burn with actual on page binding and character development, which it seems to be doing.

Great Series!!!

Wow!!! I loved the first book in this new series!!!! Essie is one of those characters that you can’t help but like. She is tough, but definitely has a vulnerability that makes her relatable. There is a lot of unanswered questions at the end of this book! Luckily I only have to wait a few days for the next one!!!!!
Oh wow that was FANTASTIC. That hit ALL my buttons!

I love it when the heroine gets knocked down and keeps getting back up. And if she gets knocked down and bloody, then all the better! It adds a certain gravitas to the story that I find lacking in all those other stories where no one really ever gets hurt. Our girl here though, she goes through some sh!t!! And she’s not superwoman. She curls into a ball and breaks down. But then she gets up, washes her face and pulls herself together. She’s
A warning, if you will..?

This series, Nephilim's Destiny, will put you to sleep at some point. It gave me many hours of quality napping.

And I'm not trying to be mean, I swear.

So an explanation, and a warning, if you will:

These books have a lot of action. And I mean a whole friggin' mountain of action, during which the characters are repeating the same fight over and over, even within the same book. Then in between the fight action, there are instances of healing (which is never enough), eating

A while ago, Michael and his brothers, Lucifer and Raphael, wanted to eradicate the human race. For this purpose, they bred Nephilims in labs. They almost won until Gabriel recruited the supernatural population of the world and fought back. Now, the supernaturals are out in the open and live in an uneasy truce with humans. One day Essie, a cop, witnesses a murder by an unknown supernatural creature. Therefore the Joined Parliament Team (Supernatural form of the FBI) recruits her to help capture ...more

This was truly a slow burn which I like with RH because I think it makes the feelings more real when they develop slowly.

I also really appreciated how this author never falls into the normal cliches for RH. Yes, mating brands happen but it doesn't mean insta-love or insta-lust. Thank you!!! I hate it when "mating" or "magic" is used to wipe away all logic or character development.

My only complaint is that I never felt like I had time to process anything. The action in this book moves extremely

Underwhelming but interesting

This book was basically just action and little development. We get to know all about the wars and infighting, but know nothing about any of the characters. I cannot say that I ever figured out what Essie looked like or how she was introduced to the guys. Randomly thy all knew her name -guessing from Marcus. Yeah it's a perk that it's not insta-love or even lust, it's just so blah at times emotionally. Yes the action was fine, but Essie was too much the damsel for my

This book is a great start to the series and has a lot of potential. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest. Essie might be a heroine that'll sacrifice herself to save anyone, but she doesn't seem naive, or stupid - she never fails to see when the guys will come in handy, and she's never seems to take on danger alone if she can help it.

It's lovely to see the start of each relationship develop, even if they're starting out a little rocky. It's easy to see the potential harem members from

Pretty Good

I really got into this. I really like Essie, but her harem won't be an easy one partly due to her nature and partly because of the guys. I really want her to have a real connection with Marcus, but I can't help wondering if he and Amiah used to sleep together. Her anger at Essie when they first met felt extremely personal and then there's the way she touched him near the end. And of course there's Gideon with his disappointment and hatred of nephilim. And then Kol who woot want to
Destined Darkness wasn't too bad, though it was a little too much action with little character and relationship development. I was really excited to start this series because it's complete and I wouldn't have to wait for sequel releases, however, there were things that really bothered me in this book that don't get cleared up until sometime in book four (of five), and from what I've read, in a really lackluster way. Like, I hate that no one has figured out that she's a nephilim, or that there's ...more

All exposition, no character development

I just finished this and I can't remember half of the plot, if that tells you anything. This book was basically just exposition. I know all about the wars and everything that happened building up to them. But I know nothing about any of the characters. I don't know how old most of them are, what they do for fun besides fight evil, or even why they fight evil. Even Essie is a cardboard character. I'm not even sure of the author ever gave us a physical

Essie is a great cop. Selfless and smart but also a bit suicidal in her selflessness. She wants to save everyone which is why I like her but trouble has found her and she doesn't listen to her self-preservation. The monster trying to take her won't stop until he has her and gets his revenge.

The men who protect her have all felt a connection with her but Marcus is the one she wants a connection with. I would be interested to get more of their background story. I am excited to see what
