The doctors called it aphantasia, but Cressida called it purgatory: slow, torturous emptiness…

It has been 3,684 days since the accident and as many nights since Cressida Dunhill last dreamed. Three years ago she moved to the sleepy coastal town of Silverside, Oregon to escape her bloody past, but now she’s drowning in its tedium. A psychologist specializing in dream analys

Cressida is the unlikeable female protagonist we all need in our lives. She's ruthlessly intelligent, excruciatingly logical, and so, so screwed up. The more you get to know her, the more afraid of her you will be. Widdicks creates a world both atmospheric and chilling, the perfect backdrop to Cressida's adventures in psychological mischief, that you're sucked in from page one. A twisted tale of love lost and obsession gained, A Mutual Addiction will appeal to fans of Mary Kubica and Karin Slaug ...more

It's a tiring game, caring what others think. Widdick's "A Mutual Addiction" gives us an astonishing, wicked look at a woman who flips the bird to that notion. Cressida is ruthless to her core, and it is utterly exhilarating watching her pursue the thing she wants most -- to be in someone else's skin -- with such demented focus and abandon. It's next to impossible to NOT want her to succeed. Get ready to check your moral compass at the door for a few hours, and then prepare to be terrified of wh ...more

Vivid and compelling, A Mutual Addiction grabs ahold from its first moments and doesn’t let go until long after it’s been put down. This is a great example of what a psychological thriller can be. Cressida is fascinating, intelligent, even sympathetic, all while being increasingly scary and completely unhinged. I promise, you will have a hard time getting her out of your head. This book did not disappoint.

Psycho thriller

The character development of the main characters is subtle and persuasive. It is not until the plot takes an odd twist that we see the competition between the main characters, and a shift in perspective.

The whole novel speaks to obsession,doctor/patient privilege and how a therapist can change within the relationship.

Good read

Beautifully written with complicated, engaging characters and a fantastic twist. This is not a story about an innocent woman having lots of bad things happen to her that are out of her control. This is the good dirty stuff. Great read.

..the birds, the ring, the corpse-woman…and enticing story making you wanting to continue with it………….well-written, well-plotted and very interesting! Was hard to put down!

Mutual addiction is a bit different than a lot of the books I've stumbled upon as of late, but I did enjoy it. I LOVE books that make me question what will happen. I always try to just predict what is going to happen and figure out the ending, but the author did a good job of creating some surprises even after I thought there wasnt more to learn or see. There were a few areas I didnt feel quite submersed in the story because I was slightly confused in what was happening, but that being said, I'm ...more

This was a dud for me. I was actually a bit pissed off after reading it for wasting my time. I didn't find it remotely 'thrilling' and the protagonist was not fully realized for me; she was just a cut-out with no depth. I felt the story would have improved with a lot more background story. More "present" and "past" chapters. With psychological suspense, I want to get a glimpse inside the main character's messy mind. The story itself was not subtle and was dully presented. I never saw either woma ...more

A crazy train of a ride! Gripping, haunting and shocking, all would describe this tale. A psychological thrill ride, a crazy shrink who has more psychosis than her patients. Had a hard time figuring out just what I was reading, hence the score. Not really my cup of tea.

You had me at twisted! Loved the atmospheric setting and all the psychology fused into the characters. Interesting and incredibly well written.
