I expected more variety. Shawls and wraps - such a great blank slate - but the patterns in here are not very exciting. I understand that the author's gimmick to this book is to finish the project in 1 week, but I still think there could have been more stitch patterning or colorwork in the designs. The garment shapes don't vary much, either. More close-up detail photos would have been great, much better than the photos of the model limply holding the garment up. ...more

While it's not a bad collection - not at all - it's not one I'd get for myself. More one to get for the library.

In achieving the titular goal of 'shawls in a week,' the general theme is simple stitch patterns or color work (basic stripes) and DK, sport, or worsted weight yarns. Makes it good for advanced beginner and intermediate knitters, in particular. Also means there isn't tons of intricacy in the patterns - not lots of involved lace or cables or colorwork. All these patterns are for advanced beginner or intermediate level knitters. Their are some really beautiful patterns and I loved how the author is the model for her projects. Seems like a great pattern book, but I have not actually made a project from this book yet.

4.5 stars. The patterns are varied enough to add this to your collection. Shawls, wraps, cowls, ponchos and a couple I would call scarves. Clear instructions and easy to follow repeats. I made the Snow Day Shawl and only found one error that was easy to see and correct. The Darling Bud Cowl and The Thunderstorm Shawl are ones I would like to make as well.

I’m a knitting beginner and am intimidated by the projects in this book. It was neat to flip through and I’d love to snorgle some of the yarns, but I didn’t see anything that I think I could actually make with what I have on hand in my stash.
