"The Redemption of the Lonesome Sheriff" is a historical western romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
I really wanted to like this book but it jumped around, parts didn't make sense, the writing was not smooth but I still give the author a lot of credit for getting a book published and I think with a good editor, when would be so much better. The plot was just all over the place. A wife has been kidnapped and missing for a year, they go and find her and she is Living in a criminal sanctuary with amnesia and with a 7 month old baby. They rescue her and a lot of other people too on their way home. It got confusing after a whi!e. But I did read the whole thing. Just not the best.
Had a hard time putting the book down. The story line kept me on the seat of my chair. Polly really was trying hard to get her memory back. The family unit they formed was awesome. Loved it!!!
THIS IS ONE THAT IS SURE TO KEEP YOU ON YOUR TOES!!! OMG! Oh man, talk about being careful what you wish for. If you're looking for an action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, nailbiting, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning tale that hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. Congrats my friends you've found it. All drama, excitement, lies, deceit, gut-wretching, uncertainty, fear, danger and suspense increases steadily as the tension spirals. Twists and turns abound with unexpected surprises around every corner make for one enjoyable experience. In a whirlwind of emotions and events that really flows from the pages, you feel it all as strongly as the characters. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it pulls you in until everything else ceases to exist. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little treasure together beautifully. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive it's easy to picture each scenario as it plays off one another in perfect balance. Carol did an excellent job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Awesome job Carol, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
A Sheriff and his kidnapped wife suffering from amnesia
Sheriff Andrew 'Dru' Ryder's wife was kidnapped and his life spiraled out of control when he gave up on being able to find her. A year later his brother Joel and his wife show up at his house with news that brings him new hope of finding her. Polly Ryder had been kidnapped by outlaws and held at their hideout. She suffered from amnesia and lost all memories prior to her kidnapping also gave birth to baby 🚼Andrew during her time there and Jennifer a young girl that was kidnapped during a train robbery helped care for him. Polly is rescued by Andrew and his brothers, Joel and Will , but split up to prevent the outlaws from finding them and his brothers take the outlaw that they'd captured back to town. Polly tells Dru that she has to return to the outlaw camp to get her baby 🚼 and Dru tells her that they'll return with a posse to get him, Jennifer and any of the other women that want to leave. As Molly's memories slowly return, so do clues to the activities of the outlaws and their trail of murder, mayhem, and destruction.
The advantage of this story is that is full of action that keeps you turning the page. This is a fast paced story, full of action, adventure, suspense, danger, anger, deceit, forgiveness and unconditional love. What I liked is that it has a real representation of the Western Era like kidnappings, outlaws, orphans from killing and so on. It could have been a lot better if the narration wasn’t like describing a football game. First of all, there were too many run-on sentences: "He went to brush down the horse and check that all was well and let himself whisper to the animal that maybe, just maybe, life could be happy again." I felt the author tried to cram too many ideas into one sentence: "By nightfall, they had still not found any sign of human settlement and made camp in a protected spot in the rocks but made no fire in case the smoke was spotted." Ideas were too wordy. No details, no fleshing out a story..just the facts. Very poorly written. A real sleeper.without emotional built-up.
The bones of the plot are good, and the story is quite interesting. However this work needs to be heavily edited. Patches are well written and nicely composed despite a plethora of typos and poor contruction. I found the conversation between all characters to be very stilted and didn't feel natural (no complaints on the content, but delivery is dry and without life). A lot happens in a short time and some actions taken by the leads I found inexplicable in the way they placed themselves at unnecessary risk. I gave the author the compliment of finishing the book, but sadly it was an effort. The resolution of the main story line was particularly short and sharp, and disappointing in the way it was delivered. I hope the author takes more care in future books.
I enjoyed reading this awesome book. It is about a Sheriff that’s wife was kidnapped a year ago from their home while he was at his office. From there he had turned to the whiskey bottle. His brother and sister in law came over one day to tell him that someone had given them information on here whereabouts and he was going to straighten himself up and go get her. What he didn’t know is that she can remember nothing since before she is kidnapped. Great story of struggle and hope to begin again where they left off and grow as a family and bring justice for all
Full of surprises, this story of persistent love, a strong sense of family & community, & in the midst of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, love really won out! What big hearts the good characters have, & what awful, evil consumed the hearts of the bad guys. It makes for a greater contrast between good & evil. And in the end, there was a place of love & healing for those who had lost everything. Good job, Carol! I'm hooked on your books!
What a wonderful book!!! I really got into this amazing tale of Polly and Dru. It is a love story similar to 50 first dates in the sense that Dru loves his wife who simply has no idea of her life before being kidnapped. Slowly through his tenderness and patience she begins to remember. Dru really wants to hear her say she loves him. How can someone who can’t remember? She even names the baby she has Andrew (spoiler) Dru’s real name. A must read. You will become part of this story. Thank you for such a great read Carol Colyer.
This was a great book written by Carol Colyer and I really enjoyed reading it. A kidnapping, gone a year, a drunk sheriff, information, amnesia, a hide out, looking for her, a possie, a shootout, rescuing his wife, some memories, a baby to rescue, rescuing others, more memories, going home, a new home, more problems, more deaths, train robbers, fire, children. Will there be a happy ever after? I would recommend this book to everyone. Buy the book and enjoy reading it as much as I did.
Polly was kidnapped by bandits and her sheriff husband was unable to find her. He lost himself in a whiskey bottle until his family came to him with a fresh clue and a witness who had seen Polly. This story takes these characters and together they face many challenges and dangers. They also make many friends alone the way. This is a long book but it is one you won't want to put down.
It is a full length novel with a lot of twists and turns and keeps you on your toes throughout. I couldn't wait to see what happened next, and what was around the corner for the characters. There were definitely a lot of characters, but the two main ones faced regular bad happenings, but kept going and going until everything was was solved. A very well written book.
Having your memories stolen is horrible but getting them back a bit at a time can make your life happier. Dru and Polly had their lives interrupted but managed to make things better when they were reunited. Instead of just two people they managed to gain a much larger family that worked in their favor in the long run. A great way to spend a few hours getting to know them through their story
This was the best western romance book I have read in awhile! It will make your head spin with all the action! It had wonderful, caring and loving characters and towns! It also had mystery and tragedy and triumph . It is amazing what the human spirit can endure and not just survive but thrive! It was a heartwarming story! I highly recommend this book!
I really enjoyed this tale. It had plenty of developments to keep you engaged. I especially liked the extended ending, as it wrapped up all the loose ends in a very good way for all the main characters involved. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Editing could have been better .
A wonderful historical read that will keep you riveted. From coach and train robberies, to memory loss and kidnapping. Mix that with the wonderful characters of Sheriff Dru Ryder and his memory lapsed wife Polly Ryder who had been kidnapped by bandits and you have an intriguing romance you won't want to put down.
This is a well written story of family, loss, community, dastardly deeds by outlaws and redemption with love stories and a happy ending. It was a page turner, you kept expecting something to happen and it did when you weren't expecting. Great story, I highly recommend.
what a wonderful book, cant put into words the journey this book takes you on, but it is a must read. loved it and thanks so much for the epilogue, I do so enjoy those.
This is ex-Sheriff Dru Ryder and his missing wife Polly and what happened to her while she was missing. There is suspense, drama, danger, missing memories, kidnapping, a second chance, and romance. A well written story I enjoyed reading.
Could not put it down. Polly is a great character and Dru is a perfect soul mate to her. Not too many characters could be as exciting as they are. You just feel something amazing about them. Excellent story.
The first few chapters were excellent and held my attention. The rest of the book was just repetitious like the author was just writing to fill a page. After several days of trying to finish it, I just had to quit and scroll to the end.
If you like adventure and intrigue and love stories this is a wonderful book to read! Dru and Polly have a time of it trying to get Polly's memory of them back and getting rid of bad men!
A story starts of with drama, action, love, suspense, missing memories, kidnapping, a second chance, romance and twists. Nice well described characters who develops through the story. Nice storyline and plot. It has depth to the story and characters. It is fast paced but still worth the read.
This was a great story! I couldn't put it down till I finished it. I liked the drama and happy endings and I liked how Dru and Polly just took the kids in and no interference from social workers...
Imagine returning home to find your wife missing. The imagine finding her a year later, with a child and no memory of her past life. Ride with Dru and Polly as they try to recover her memory and find the gang of killers along the way. Great story with a lot of action.
I couldn't stop reading this book! I felt like I was living it with the characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves romance with a little bit of mystery thrown it.
Although I usually pass over "sweet" stories I decided to give this one a shot. I really enjoyed the storyline and characters. Sometimes the telling would get a bit off "track" but overall was very good. I also read the extended and found it interesting as well.
Love the happily ever after and epilogues on any story. Carol writes good ones . This had outlaws, intrigue, romance and horses . Oh, but it didn’t have a cat or dog, LOL A must read
This is one of those novels were the final chapter leaves you on a cliff hanger. Will the boy be saved? Will they marry? Will justice prevail? I cannot wait to find out
