A sweet cozy mystery read. I enjoyed it however I probably won't continue the series at the current time. My least favorite part was closer to the end when All in all though, a cute read.

Enter the Witch
I hoped for a bit more excitement. Sorry to say but I found it rather boring. And cannot warm up with the main character Evangeline, I find her behaviour unpleasant, nearly rude. She cannot say once thank you, for the nice things people do for her, special Shane, or her work colleagues. There is no proper development within the storyline. No excitement build up. There is no explanation why she moved to this place. Sorry not my kind of book about witches.

Short, Sweet, and Fun Prequel!
First off, this book is to be the kick off point for a new series by Andris Bear. I have adored everything I have read under her name thus far, and this didn't disappoint. This is a short and quick read that does a great job setting the stage and building the world of Whisper Grove. There are different types of witches in this town supposedly founded by them some time ago, and the series promises to be full of both action and intrigue as our main characters will be witches who had no idea that's what they were until the death of their parents and the eldest sister's unexplainable draw back to the town they fled before their children were born.
There is a sweet romance already present in this prequel, so no worries about not getting your fix! Also, there is a snarky cat. You'll love it!

What a waste of time. There wasn't any story, only questions, questions, but no answers. All sorts of innuendos, possibilities, but no foundations whatsoever. All Winthers had to flee or disappear, but why, and why is it (or is it?) safe for them to return? At no point did I enjoy reading this book, and if I can't do that, why bother.
It is a rather ridiculous ploy by the author to get you to buy her next book, which may, or may not, give you a glimmer of what the hell is going on. But it is very apparent that the next book will only give you some little insight into the matter and tease you and present more questions, etc. so you will buy the book after that one and on and on. What a sorry way to sell books. Is the author so inept at writing a good, complete, stand alone book that she must resort to these measures to make sure you buy more of her books. Presenting a good book would alleviate that concern. . I have read many series, each a stand alone book, and enjoyed them, not been aggravated by them.
Needless to say, I won't be reading any more from this author.

Yes and no
Yes: good start to what could be an entertaining set of books. I like the characters. The story has taken shape and has a lot of paths to follow.
No: What I absolutely dislike are typos. This book has enough of them to distract from the overall experience. There are also at least two sentences that don’t make sense at all because of editing errors. Maybe I’m just old school. In the days when books were only on paper, it was rare to find mistakes. The loss of attention to accuracy is just sloppy and distracting...AND unnecessary. Why should ebooks be exempt from accuracy? All writers need good proofreaders. They are essential to raising the status of a writer.

I don't do book reviews....
I don't do book reviews like you keep seeing, as I find that some give too much of the plot away and I personally hate that, as it makes the book not worth reading. I much prefer to take the authors back cover write up as a review as it can either intrigue you enough to read the book of provide you enough information to make you decide that the book is not for you.
My review rules are: The more stars, the more I liked it.

A first book in a new series that has the potential to be good. The blurb claims this is laugh out loud funny. I didn't think so. I did enjoy the story but everything is a cliff hanger. The end provides no satisfaction. This book sets up the story of Evangeline Winther, a witch and the new man in her life who also seems to have special skills. The characters are likable. Andris sets up many mysteries in the backstories of the characters but doesn't answer any of them in this book. So, I liked it but was disappointed that nothing was answered. As much as I have enjoyed other books by this author, I probably won't read any more in this series.

Evangeline is just a down to earth regular young woman, until she's not. Things aren't what they seem when she meets the town mechanic and most eligible bachelor. Enter in a weird cat, strange and creepy house, whispering voices, and a snarky mean girl nemesis and you have yourself the making of an enthralling read.
Ready for the next installment of this adventure!

Wonderful!
I will say if someone was looking in my window, they would have thought I was ready for the Looney bin!!! Hilarious, snarky, clever, dry, witty and did I say, Hilarious! I love these books and Evangeline is one of a kind! A great read!

i enjoyed this book, but i think i should be longer. it felt like half a book

This was a quick read. i felt the author tried to get too much in for the amount of pages. I didn't enjoy it as much as I would if it was filled out more. I found the mystery predictable and didn't really connect with the characters.

A good witch, a sexy mechanic, and a lazy cat make for a good start to a promising series. Spoiler alert: this first book ends in a cliff hanger, but that shouldn't stop anyone from reading the story, as the cliff hanger is actually the start of the next book in the series and not an abrupt ending that doesn't finish the current story.
Truly a fun read, and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Fantastic !I'm
This book is so good I forgot that I was reading and felt more like I was in the story. I was experiencing the story with the characters. That very seldom happens. I was upset when it ended. I wasn't done enjoying it!!!!

1. The entire concept of casters feels like a rip off of Beautiful Creatures.
2. The characters are flat - no real reactions to virtually anything that happens. Giant announcements like you're a witch or you're a guardian weren't met with disbelief for more than a line of two.
3. The cliff hanger is cheesy as hell.
4. Insta love sucks.
5. This is like a first draft of badly written fan fiction

Huge cliffhanger
I liked the characters and the part of a story we got here. Chester the self molester, a black cat familiar, is a hoot.
The editing is not great, all I remember is a her instead of here. Wait until the while series is out.

Evangeline is struggling after having moved away from home. She has a job at the library, but her boss is a dragonlady. Her apartment is small, and her electronics keep failing her. Compounding her problems, she accidentally rear-ends a truck at a stop sign. When her car refuses to start again, Evangeline hoofs it to work. In the meantime, mechanic Shane has her car towed to his shop, and he gives it a tune-up. All he asks is that Evangeline go out to dinner with him. That seems promising to her, until they are confronted in the restaurant by Freya Stone, Shane's ex and, unbeknownst to Evangeline, her mortal enemy.
Evangeline has always considered herself practical, but more and more clues seem to be pointing to the fact that she is a witch, as are her parents. Shane and her BFF, Carrow, confirm this, but Evangeline is having a difficult time believing them...until her cat starts talking to her.
This was just a novella, setting up the series, and it ended on a cliffhanger, too. Evangeline and Shane's characters were well-done, the secondary ones, not so much, but I presume that will change in future installments. What set this one apart from most of the other "witch cozy mysteries" was how funny it was. I laughed all through it!

A disappointing book. Evangeline moves to Whisper Grove, works in library, and struggles financially. When she 'bumps' Shane's truck and her (neglected) car won't start, she abandons her vehicle and walks to work. Shane, who owns a car repair shop, tows the car and services the woefully neglected vehicle. Shane, smitten by Evangeline, invites her to dinner. Throughout the story, Evangeline's behavior feels like that of a teenager abandoning a situation she is either bored with and doesn't feel like dealing with at the moment. At work, Evangeline must go to the 'spooky' basement, where she hears voices calling for help. Mesmerized and drawn to a mysterious door (seen only by her), she is rescued by Shane whose uncle has ties to Evangeline's parents. The mysterious disappearances of towns people is alluded to but not explained in this book. The book ends as many TV shows end their season - with a cliff hanger to be explained in the next book. However, for this reader, there's too much left hanging and barely expanded on to make me want to continue the series.

The story of Evangeline (Evie) Winther unfolds for her at the same speed it does for the reader. We get no (or VERY few) advantages of advance knowledge of what is happening as her life unfolds. It is a very effective and aggravating way to tell a story.
We meet Evie as a college graduate who has moved away from home to a small town, leaving behind the chaos of 3 younger sisters and her parents. She works at a lowing paying job at the library, which she loves, for reasons not entirely clear to her or to us.
From there, life keeps slowly getting a little stranger by the day. The best thing to happen is a wonderful date with
Shane, but even that brings complications, both good and bad.
Enjoy the ride as this well written story unfolds. Sequels abound which promise to be as exciting as the original.

Funny, quirky and a really good light read.
Sometimes you just want a lighter read, especially after you just finished a long read-a-thon with a series that takes your emotions through the treacheries of Middle Earth....but I digress. Bear's main character, Evangeline, is funny and altogether completely relatable from her bad luck to her quirky friend. This book included the first two chapters of the next in the series and from what I can tell, all of it will be fun and Evangeline and Shane have some challenges coming their way.
If you want some grandiose paranormal adventure, this book isn't for you but if you want to laugh and take a bit of a break than I suggest you pick it up today.

Whisper Grove is Very Witchy
This was an enjoyable read with a quirky protagonist. The story is one of discovery: being a witch, coming from a powerful family, finding you have enemies, lots of unknowns, and the start of a romance. The character development is good and the story ahs a few interesting plot twists.
Although at least one story arc gets some closure, there were far too many left open for my taste. It's part of a series so some of that is to be expected.
With that minor flaw, the story kept me interested. I read it in one day (couldn't go to sleep until I finished).
Worthwhile reading!

Bait and Switch
If you bought this book to read a full story you are in for a disappointment. The first in the series is only a partial story. You don’t get invested with the characters because it appears that the writer didn’t know what to write. Then when some things are finally coming together and make sense you are left hanging, because the story has to continue in book 2. Give me a fully story from the get go. If the characters are entertaining and the story line has other places to go then I will chose to read more in a series. These giving you a tiny taste and having to buy the next book to get any resolution to any part of the story is a big turn off for me

Is she crazy or is this stuff really happening?
Her parents aren’t very happy when Evangeline Winther moves back to Whisper Grove, NC but she thinks her childhood hometown is the perfect place to start her life as an independent adult. Her job at the library doesn’t pay much, her boss is a tyrant, and the town has some odd quirks but she has made some friends so things aren’t all bad. Now she is having run of bad luck and keeps hearing phantom voices. Is she having a psychotic break or is something strange happening in Whisper Grove?
This is a fun Cozy with humor, hints of magic, and good characters. Except for the cliffhanger ending, this series is off to a good start.

This was a really fun read. We switch between Evangeline’s POV and that of Shane’s. Evangeline has moved to Whisper Cove to strike out on her own. It’s just too bad that bad luck is surrounding her. Shane wants to do all he can to help keep her safe.

A very light, fun read. Felt very short, and is really only introducing characters to build up into a series. That said, I will probably give the second one a go as I like the main character Evangeline. She is living a perfectly normal life, in a new town, until strange things start happening. Everyone, it appears, knows more about her family's past than she does, and it is going to be a steep learning curve! Aided by a new boyfriend, kooky best friend and a black cat named Chester, Evangeline is learning that she might not be so normal after all.

This book was okay. It is shown as book 1 of the series, but I would call it nothing more than a prequel....a short story to set the scene. Nothing is resolved; there is a cliffhanger. There were some notable editing issues that it would be nice to see fixed, but not everybody cares about that sort of thing. There wasn't really enough here to decide whether I care about the characters enough to bother with reading any more books in the series, if there are any further books in the series. I'm left just .... meh.

This isn't a book, it is an excerpt. It stops at a cliff hanger, sort of. It reminds me of a serial rather than a book. This made me mad enough to drop off a star. The story itself is pretty good. The premises interesting. But the main character is annoying. And so many paranormal mystery writers are writing their main characters exactly like her. So she doesn't feel at all original or out of the ordinary. She doesn't feel like an individual. She feels like a stock character being plugged into a formula.

I typically steer clear of series because I don't like to commit to fourteen books to get a storyline that could have been comp!eted in one book. This book was not a complete story, and it cannot be played off as a first in a series. I would say every book in this series is necessary to complete the story. Authors, do not do that. What a great start to a series. The story pulls you in and keeps you there and when it is over you are immediately looking for the next in the series. A librarian who all of a sudden finds out she is from a family of witches and the curse means she is doomed to die. I am so excited to read the rest of this series.
