Highly recommended by a friend. Good story and written well. Reincarnation is the main theme and the young man who is the main character is quite believable in his slow discovery of his "soul" and who he is. The ending of the bad guys is satisfactory and the young man takes charge of his life. It leaves you with a great many questions regarding reincarnation and its many possibilities. The characters were well-developed and intertwined with each other. Of course, Venice is a wonderful venue.
A thoroughly enjoyable read that, although fairly simple, kept me entertained the whole way through. This book is nearly 50 years old, but I had no issue understanding the language or relating to the characters. I found the main character to be quite relatable in both his astonishment at finding out who he really is, and his determination to solve the mystery of his past life.
The city of Venice itself is the real star here. Its narrow alleys, murky canals, and towering churches are described in such a way that makes you feel like you're really there.
