Jacked Cat Jive
The Kai Gracen Series: Book Three
Stalker Kai Gracen knew his human upbringing would eventually clash with his elfin heritage, but not so soon. Between Ryder, a pain-in-his-neck sidhe lord coaxing him to join San Diego’s Southern Rise Court, and picking up bounties for SoCalGov, he has more than enough to deal with. With his loyalties divided between the humans who rais...more

I have an important announcement to make. Can I get a drum roll please?
Thank you! :)
THIS BOOK IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE IN THIS SERIES! 5 Stars for everything!
Greg Tremblay has once again outdone himself with his narration and the story itself had more tears - on my part -, more snark (if even possible) from Kai and lots of swooning - umm, that was me again.
Okay, winged dogs, dragons and other fellow monsters keep being an issue and apparently Kai still has not used up all ...more
I want more of this series. More more more more more!! With every single book, I adore Kai Gracen more and more. He's fiercely independent -- feral, even -- but his heart is so huge, I'm sure we haven't even seen the extent of it. On purpose, because you know he doesn't want that getting out.
In Jacked Cat Jive we see Kai starting to come to terms with emotions he doesn't want and we get a taste of the lengths he will go to for those he loves. He doesn't love many, but he loves with all ...more
This is a strong entry into this series, spinning the focus of the story off of Kai and his background, and onto his friends, their lives, their relationships, and general politics of the elf court. Don’t worry, there still manages to be a lot of fighting with monsters and fast paced adventure. Excitement is high, but there’s much less backstory.
There is quite a bit of explaining what occurred in the prior book (at the beginning of this one). If you are reading all th ...more
This is the third book in the Kai Gracen series by Rhys Ford and my favorite so far. The books should be read in order for a better understanding of the story and the character's development.
If you're a fan of urban fantasies then this series is definitely for you. But you must know from the start that here it's all about action - a lot of it actually, and not so much about romance. Until now, and it's already the third book, we don't get much romance between the main chara ...more
More Kai and Ryder....sorry no dragons this time...
I think I forgot just how much I loved this series. I know a lot of my friends will tell you that I am unashamedly a Rhys Ford fan. If she writes it, I'll read it and so far I can say without reservation I've loved every word and 'Jacked Cat Jive' ...more
I love Kai, this is a great action packed story with an interesting world. Ford's writing is a mix of purple prose and punchy sentences that can work well. Yet as much as I enjoyed reading this instalment -which I did- it also doesn't offer much. The overall story arc doesn't progress, the romantic story arc barely progresses and Kai as a character doesn't develop. It felt like a re-hash; there's far too much referring to things from previous books throu ...more
This world that Rhys Ford so cleverly and painstakingly creates never ceases to provide non-stop danger aimed directly at poor Kai. Just when I think this author cannot possibly create any more bizarre or deadly creatures, she takes the series up another notch by giving us not one, but two or three such nightmares for Kai to kill. But it’s not all fun and games and killing for Kai because in this book we also learn even more about his past and watch as Kai grapples ...more
And this author has killed me dead with that damn ending! I'm marking it an evil cliffhanger (which, admittedly she doesn't do hardly ever) because what WHAT?? Leaving me there was just cruel, seriously.
And once again and always, now I wait. *sighs*
I’ve read a few of this author’s other books and she has always done a good job of going over plot and characters from previous books in a series. I felt confident jumping into this series without reading books one and two, and I was easily able to figure out what ...more
I have been eagerly awaiting Book 3 in the Kai Gracen series, since Book 2 was released. And HOLY CRAP, my excitement was not misplaced. I am not going to put some huge synopsis here. The basics are all in the blurb. If you’re reading JCJ, you’ve probably already read the other two. If you haven’t, DO IT! You will not regret it. And I hate it when people put spoilers in their reviews, so I’m going to try and tread carefully.
First, Rhys Ford has crafted a po ...more
And, oh boy, Rhys Ford as always took me for an emotional rollercoaster and left weeping at the end - because there is no fourth book yet. Among all of Ford’s series Kai Gracen is the one that I picked up and fell in love with it in an instant. So ...more
With every new installment in the series, Kai becomes more intriguing, just like the story that surrounds him. It grows with every book and we get another piece of the puzzle that is Kai Gracen, but the plot that surrounds him thickens.
In Jacked Cate Jive ...more

From that review: In a series that by turns has been dark, gritty, wondrous, and wild in the previous stories, Jacked Cat Jive has me gobsmacked with it's , dare I say it, jacked up gloriously layered plot, the multiple story threads running and twisting and turning each pulling your attention this way and that, while the author carefully weaves a vivid complicated tapestry that ...more
You know how you leave a placer that says "review to come later", and you just don't feel like reviewing it? Even though you really liked it? Yeah, that. Instead I'm just going to jot down a few thoughts.
A great addition to the series, a bit too much tell and not enough show in places, an issue with "if they had rifles all along, why the hell did they wait so long to drag them out?", and another issue with "slayers who wait to be shot at before shooting back, WTF?". I don't mind the s ...more
While the book is complete in itself, the ending left me eagerly awaiting the next book!
For fans of urban fantasy, you can't beat the Kai Gracen series. Rhys Ford builds the most amazing worlds that suck you in, and wont let you go.
I loved this book, just as much if not more than the earlier books in the series. This book gives more insight into Kai and Ryder, as well as the other characters in the series. I can see their world in the words, and I am loving find ...more
I didn't want to read it too fast, because I didn't want it to be over.
I love Kai :)
I’m insanely excited about this book I’ve listened to Black Dog Blues & Mad Lizard Mambo back to back on repeat for like the last month. I need my Kai fix soooooon
All the cats are jacked in one way or another on Kai Gracen’s latest stalker run.
That probably made no sense unless you’ve read the previous books in this terrific series. Start with Black Dog Blues and then dance on over to Mad Lizard Mambo. If you like gritty urban fantasy you’ll be glad you did.
I’ve also just made a bunch of puns based on the titles. They are all music-based in one way or another, from Blues to Mambo to Jive – another name for jazz. Cat ...more
There is a saddening paucity of urban fantasy with gay/bisexual/pansexual male leads. Luckily, Rhys Ford continues to contribute quality stories to this fabulous subgenre. Her Kai Gracen series is not only a great example of LGBTQ urban fantasy; it’s a fun, fulfilling work of fiction that holds its own against mainstream authors. Rock on, Rhys.
And guess what? This one? The Third Installment? BALLER.
I will never, ever, ever tire of reading about Kai Gracen. Ou ...more
