I consider this required reading for everyone. EVERYONE.
As "Nobody's Victim" shows, justice for victims of abuse in the online era has been agonizingly slow. Platforms, law enforcement, and law makers have failed to protect those who are at risk. I was shocked by just how little was being done against a form of abuse that is psychologically and sometimes physically devastating. Indeed Carrie Goldberg is one of the first to fight back in court, having established her law firm that specializes in
I really want to give this book five stars, but the persistent use of "psycho" and crazy" to describe terrible, violent men was a little hard to overlook as someone who is trying to work on improving my language so as not to further stigmatize the mentally ill. The book is a vitally important one, though, as Goldberg writes clearly and passionately about the current legal landscape that sets up women to be victimized and revictimized by cyberstalkers, trolls, and plain old jerks. The resource li ...more

If you have ever been the victim of revenge porn, sexual harassment, sextortion, sexual assault, have a friend or family member who has been victim of these crimes, use dating sites, dating apps, have ever made comments anywhere online, you should read this book. Please be aware that reading this book may be triggering for survivors of these crimes. Carrie Goldberg is an attorney who specializes on fighting for victims of these crimes. Don't get bitter get better!
For me this showed just how damaging releasing trust into the world can become and how to fight fire with fire to get revenge.
Sure many of these relationships were quickly consumed.
The relationships were often centered upon sexual abuse in general, sexual photos placed online w/o consent, and sexual abuse cases.
As a survivor of abuse while I applaud the author for taking these cases to get relief for clients, I'm dismayed at the anger portrayed throughout the book, an

Thank you to Leah from Changing Hands Tempe for an early copy of this book!

(Before I get into this review I want to state that there are MAJOR content warnings in this book for rape, emotional abuse, physical abuse, childhood sexual abuse, sexual harassment, stalking, cyberstalking, sexploitation, revenge porn, trolling, and suicide. There are real life legal cases involving all of these described in detail in this book, so please be aware, and if you are not in a place where you can read about

I finished the book in tears. Get this book and read it!

When I was younger, I never used the word evil. The phrase was clearly outdated and judgmental. People were generally well meaning, if wrong. Sometimes they would hurt others, true, but it was either a misunderstanding or in horrible situations, no doubt something that happened in childhood.

I'm older now but I use the term evil. For some acts there is no other word.

Attorney Carrie Goldberg is truly a special, passionate woman and I'm so thankful that she is doing the work that she is making such a big difference in the lives of individual victims while also taking part in adopting laws that will catch us up to present day technology. It is my hope that in the future more victims and their lawyers will be able to more easily bring charges against their aggressors without having to spend far too long being traumatized in order to build a case. I was absolute ...more

Very impressed with Carrie Goldberg and what she's done helping people fight violence online. It's a topic that's of interest to me for numerous reasons.

One of the most despicable things is how little the American government has done to ensure that new comprehensive legislation is put into effect to protect vulnerable populations, such as kids and teens, enduring things like sextortion online. Then again, they didn't do shit when all them kids were killed in Newtown either, so I can't be surpri

This book is a phenomenal reference source for anyone and everyone that has an internet following. I have friends that reach a popular point and always get stalked. The book offers real life shocking experiences with narcisst psychopaths with a goal to ruin your life. There's a list of multiple resources with phone numbers and how to contact specific agencies for help. I found that the most valuable because it's difficult to find the right person or agency when you have a stalker tormenting you. ...more

Wow. Nobody's Victim is part memoir, part exploration victim protection in the internet age, and part call to arms.

Seriously. there are few things more badass than the lines Goldberg opens her cease and desist letters with. "I represent [my client]. I'll be taking over negotiations from here. Negotiations just ended."

It is a difficult book to read. There are predators of every type - pedophiles, white supremacists, rapists. But there is an undercurrent of strength, of fighting for what's right

I heard about Carrie Goldberg’s new book, Nobody’s Victim, from The Cut’s podcast, The Cut on Tuesdays. From the moment she started talking, I was incredibly intrigued. I knew I had to get my hands on this book. The book did not disappoint. Carrie Goldberg is a lawyer who specializes in cases of harassment, revenge porn, sexual violence, and much more. This book is part call to arms, part manifesto, part resource guide for women. Carrie tells the stories of a number of her clients, stringing tog ...more

Carrie Goldberg's book is a powerful, must-read. Sharing her intimate and thoughtful insight into the world of revenge porn, sexual abuse/assault and privacy violation is inspiring. I hope this book serves as a key reminder to all survivors -- and as Goldberg reminds us -- "even if you don't know what to call [what happened to you]'-- that you're a survivor and a warrior.

The work that Goldberg's law firm is doing is life-changing and life-saving. As this book details the very real legal cases in

Nobody's Victim is one of the most powerful books I've read, of this year, and of all time. Carrie Goldberg, an established lawyer and activist against sexual violence, stalking, blackmail, and more, gives readers an inside look into the intricacies of her work. Her stories will anger and appall you, but will also inspire you to fight back. Goldberg is a warrior, and so are her clients. Nobody's Victim will surely create some more.

‘”We are all a moment away from having our life overtaken by somebody hell-bent on our destruction.” That grim reality – gleaned from personal experience and twenty years of trauma work – is a fundamental principle of Carrie Goldberg’s cutting-edge victims’ rights law firm.
Riveting and an essential timely conversation-starter, NOBODY’S VICTIM invites readers to join Carrie on the front lines of the war against sexual violence and privacy violations as she fights for revenge porn and sextortion l

This should be required reading for life. Goldberg offers fascinating insight into online targeting and abuse that lawmakers and police officers and ill-equipped to handle. Laws have a long way to go before people catch up to the psychological effects of the "invisible", "anonymous" crimes described in this book. Far too few criminals are brought to justice.

This book will be legitimizing for anyone who has been stalked, harassed, attacked, or abused online. It's horrifying to know how common it

Nobody's Victim: Fighting Psychos, Stalkers, Pervs, and Trolls by Carrie Goldberg is a book that shares experiences and information about sexual violence and privacy violations, and how she fights it. Goldberg is a lawyer who fights for her clients and by the end of the book, I admire her so and her clients so much. They are all badass.

I was interested in reading this book because I wanted to learn more about revenge porn and I had never heard of Goldberg. I was worried that the book might repea

Carrie Goldberg is such a badass, I just want to start by saying that. Her personal story is incredibly moving and really gave an immediate connection to a really complicated topic. Her writing is very self-assured, confident and engaging. I loved that she walks you through the various types of abusers and really provides context both legally and emotionally on why these issues are really important. The law has clearly not caught up with our current technology. The universal truth of this book i ...more

I read this book in one sitting; I could not put it down. It is the perfect mix of intimate memoir, barometer of how our society values protecting technology companies over people, and a call to action.

While reading the book, I felt saddened by the abuse that people suffer at the hands of psychos, stalkers, pervs, and trolls, quickly followed by rage over how easily people get away with this behavior. The hopeful moments come from the determination that Carrie Goldberg and her clients show, as

“And though she be but little, she is fierce.”
–William Shakespeare.

Nobody’s Victim is an intimate story about Carrie Goldberg’s gut-wrenching journey from sexual abuse and stalking victim to fierce woman warrior, lawyer, lobbyist, and feminist icon. She wears her heart on her sleeve and exposes her own secrets and flaws. Through her unapologetic words, Carrie gives a voice to every person who has been silenced by sexual violence and technology facilitated abuse.

Interesting book on increasingly important topic

This was an interesting book on an issue of increasing importance, online abusive behavior, especially cyberstalking, harassment, and non-consensual sharing of intimate photos or videos. The author was a victim of sexual abuse and cyberstalking and taught herself what she needed to know to assist and protect herself and others, eventually starting her own law firm focused on these issues, as well as assisting with efforts to reform state and feder

When I requested this book from Netgalley, I had no idea how engrossing, moving, unnerving, overwhelming, and important it would be.  Nobody's Victim is Carrie Goldber's memoir of the work she has done as a Victim's Rights attorney. She represents clients that have been assaulted, humiliated, stalked, and harassed in the digital age - something that is crucial these days.

The stories of her clients gave me chills, and made each of the issues personal. The author's own stories were heartbreaking

I can't remember where I heard about this book, but I know I wanted to read it since the author is a lawyer who helps people with unique cases. I was shocked to find out how many of these cases - having to do with all the horrible kinds of people named in the title - are long and drawn-out, and law enforcement often wants nothing to do with them. Goldberg also tells the story of how she became a lawyer, and why - I get the sense that she is a very authentic person, someone who has a true need to ...more

I've followed attorney Carrie Goldberg since 2016, when I first started reading about her pioneering work in sexual privacy. In this book she chronicles how she built her own law practice, fighting criminals who spread revenge porn and otherwise use the internet to blackmail and exploit women (and sometimes men). Goldberg combines memoir, case law and harrowing client stories, making for an absorbing -- often devastating -- read that exceeded my already high expectations. I admire how she opens ...more

Informative, shocking, deeply personal, poignant, and empowering. Goldberg chronicles her own experiences with sexual violence and stalking, the intersection of sexual privacy violations and technology, and her fight to ensure that survivors get the justice they deserve. Carrie Goldberg is a force to be reckoned with and, as she states on page 1, the true definition of a "ruthless motherfucker."
This book is a must-read for everyone - men, women, teens, survivors, and especially big tech compani

This was a very engaging read about internet trolls, stalkers, psychos and oh so much more. The author tells some very suspenseful and entertaining anecdotes about people who have been in some pretty awful situations. The book is truly a terrifying read as well as some of the situations these people have been in are almost unbelievable. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about the true dark side of social media and the internet.

I loved this book over all. Carrie Goldberg speaks a language that all can understand. Her passion is transferred to the pages of her book. Her advocacy, passion for the fight, and her moral compass shine with each example she details. I wish there were more like her in the world. Take no prisoners, kick whoever's ass needs it, and keep moving to the next person that needs her.

Powerful and invigorating, this book follows a lawyer’s career, from start-up to success, as she handles cases regarding stalking, sexual harrassment, blackmail, and sexual assault. This book is not for those who may get triggered by discussion of these topics. The author delves right in, because by doing that, she makes the plights of these people real to us.

A lot of this book made me feel helpless. I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t plan on being one. So it left me thinking what can I do to keep t
