As a leader, you know that developing leaders is crucial to your team's success. You also know that when life gets busy, meaningful leader development activities take a back seat to the swarm of everyday tasks. Who has time to discuss-let alone research and refine-quality content that will make a real difference? Andrew Steadman has lived this frustration and wrote The Military Leader to give leaders straightforward, highly relevant, inspirational leader development insight they can use to grow themselves and their teams. The Military Leader is your leader development program when you don't have time for one.
Disappointed because the book presents itself as a stand-alone work, but it's just a collection of summarized blog posts. As an avid reader of the blog, that meant lots of known ideas. All chapters are 5minutes reading max, except one which is so clearly an excerpt of one of the author's academical works that the notes are given at the end of the chapter, instead of at the end of the book, which makes it a 30min reading chapter. Overall, a good read for some still unknown nuggets I was happy to find, but it can't be called a coherent book.
Normally one reads a lot on conceptual issues pertaining to leadership , however, the book has brought to fore some practical aspects of leadership. It provides a broad framework for leading by defining actions in tangible terms. It’s a one time read for those involved in the business of leading in any capacity
Phenomenal compilation of leadership lessons that runs the gamut of big ideas and easily-implented small tweaks. This book is great to read all at once, and will stay on my shelf for years to come as I need a targeted lesson!
