This book covers some spectacular country in the Southern Sierra Nevada range of California. My favorite hikes described in this book are the Rae Lakes loop out of Kings Canyon (my recommendation is to take the northern direction first) and the Silver Pass hikes out of Lake Edison (take the boat across the lake!). I have a goal of hiking Mt. Whitney, but I've thus far never won the lottery necessary to obtaining a wilderness permit.
