⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2! Most Eligible Bastard (stand-alone). A dog inheriting the family empire sets a vindictive, petty and sexually charged game in motion!

“The loop on the L looks like a C. You have to at least admit that.”
“Well… Cock Worldwide, huh” He seems to ponder. “If the name fits…”

Most Eligible Bastard (stand-alone) follows Etsy store owner Vicky Nelson aka Vonda O’Neil upon learning she has inherited a dog, Smuckers and as the role of its dog whisperer total control over a multi-billion-dollar

4 stars!

Review and Excerpt at Of Pens and Pages.

Let me tell you a story about a girl who underestimated a book. She took a certain book at face value and saw it as a mere romantic comedy. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. The girl absolutely loves romantic comedies. But then she read it and got so much more than what she expected. The story had amazing characters, fantastic banter, and sizzling sexual tension, but there was also angst and drama in the mix. The girl fell in love.

Very interesting and well-written book with absolutely bizarre plot.
First 10% of the story didn’t make much sense to me.
this book has an absolutely incredible, complex, strong and amazing heroine.

Floved this woman. Not always badass warrior on the outside; a vulnerable, but very strong woman with a steel backbone. Very smart and sassy; closed, but still warm and friendly; sarcastic and self-confident, maybe a bit shy sometimes. This woman was full of contradictions, b

This is a very sweet book with both fun and emotional moments in it. It is more than "a billionaire & average girl" love story. It is more than what its title and cover promise. There is a good but dramatic background story in it blended with a weird but very funny present situation.

A very rich woman dies and in her will, she leaves %51 of her assets to her dog, with whom she spent her last years. And Vicky, who was there for her in her last years, trying to help her in some way will b

I love being surprised by a new to me author. I had not read Annika Martin before and this experience had me smiling and laughing during my work break many, many times. Love when that happens.

This story starts out with us understanding Vicky Nelson had been roped into "Dog Whispering" for an old cranky manipulative woman who's only connection seems to be her dog. This woman starts to badger and practically stalk Vicky, demanding she "Dog Whi

I've enjoyed Annika Martin's (aka Carolyn Crane) voice for some time - her books usually involve zany bad guys and are erotic. This one doesn't have a bad guy - just a hero who starts off a little....bastardy. But he is actually a great guy - it just takes some time for that side to be noticed. Henry Locke is the CEO of a very large construction/poperty company. He treats his many employees with respect and like family. He isn't sleazy - everything is done on the right side of the law. So what's ...more

It's nice when you pick up a freebie, months later cruise through your Kobo and find a cute cover with a cute guy in a suit and think "this looks fun," and then lo and behold, it is fun...

Honestly, I really had low expectations. What I expected was a bunch of fluff. And it was fluff, but it wasn't just fluff either. The characters dealt with some real issues, from Vicky's prior incident in her youth (whoa, left field, I was surprised too), to both of them having mom issues that *takes a deep bre

This is a love story between a wealthy businessman, Henry Locke; a jewelry designer, Vicky Nelson; and Smuckers, a toy Maltese.

“So. Fucking. Romantic.”

Okay, so it’s not really a three way love story between man, woman, and dog. Although there is that Smuckers incident. Hmm... With a name like Smuckers it has to be good. *wink*

It’s really a heartfelt romance with touches of humor. (Like Smuckers has to pee.) Anyways, Henry’s been estranged from his mother who’s bequeathed her stake in

I wanted this to be so funny I'd end up on the floor, holding my stomach and screaming uncle.

It wasn't.

So I'm kinda disappointed. But only cause it was more serious then I had anticipated. Usually that's a good thing, just not today.

(Except for that one scene with Smuckers and Henry featuring the couch and some licking)
Loaded words, no?

Read it and find out. Believe you me, that scene makes everything worth it. xD

Annika Martin has a backlist that spans multiple romance genres. Under the pen name of Carolyn Crane, she’s written a taut and exciting romantic suspense series, The Associates, as well as an urban fantasy series The Disillusionists. As Annika, she’s gotten to explore a more erotic style, with Taken Hostage by Kinky Bank Robbers (which is exactly what it sounds like) and a darker, edgy mafia style series, Dangerous Royals Romance as well as some standalone romances. *So an eccentric mother wills the company to her dog, instead of her son. And the heroine is the dog's spokesperson. -----Now that's what made me grab this book.

*This starts the love-hate kind of game between the hero and the heroine. He tries to bribe her, trick her, seduce her. But she is quite adamant. -----I don't know why but I did felt that why was she being such a stubborn ass as she can herself see that its the hero's company and his hardwork.(view spoiler)

3.5-4 stars

This was a decent, easy reading experience, perfect for my vacation. I’d seen this as being similar to THG and certainly, the hate is strong between the main characters. I didn’t think I’d quite rate this 4 stars but it does deserve it for not prolonging angst when I know many writers would in these particular circumstances. Also the banter and chemistry were well written. I would definitely try this author again.
The basic storyline is the hero’s estranged mother has died, and has left her fortune to her dog - dictating our heroine is the spokesman for this dog. The hero thinks the heroine manipulated his mother when she wasn’t in sound mind.

“Rumor has it Henry’s a business genius who’s as talented in the bedroom as he is in the boardroom.”

That line is part of the synopsis. As it stands, I don’t understand why women like knowing or even pursue men who have a reputation as such. I doubt a man would chase
Okay first of the title is terrible. Second the book isn't. The heroine of this book was amazing, she was so strong despite of all that she had been through and I liked how she took no prisoners. She was amazing with her sister, her friends and to the hero. She didn't become one of those simpering women quick to forgive instead she made the hero work for it. LOVED it!

The synopsis of Most Eligible Bastard instantly grabbed me, and I knew I needed to read this one. Everything about it screamed ‘read me’. Laughter was promised. Romance I could ship was promised. A wonderful story was promised. Plus, it would finally give me my introduction to Annika Martin. A few times I have looked at Annika Martin books and thought ‘this sound interesting’ but I never did pick them up – after this, things are about to change. I’ll certainly be reading more Annika Martin books ...more

Beautiful story!
He was super rich and stayed celibate for 450 days after they broke up. Only for this I'll tell "Bravo" to author!!
I liked it a lot, first pages were a bit slow for me, but then it was so much fun!
I liked the heroine, such a strong girl. And I'm in love with Henry, sigh....

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. This year I've barely read anything, and half of what I did manage to read, I didn't like, but this.....this was the book it needed when I wasn't even looking for something. The voice is so strong and so charming right from the start. The heroine is delightful and the hero has such depth beneath the alphahole exterior that by the end of the book I was worried about his feelings as much as I worried about the heroine's, which is something that al ...more
Sooooo I missed a huge line in the blurb for this book, and it was kind of an important one. Here’s the thing: you can’t leave 51% of the shares of a major international corporation in the control of your dog in your will. I had trouble taking the plot seriously because you just can’t really do that. Also the discussion of challenging the will was pretty off, and there’s a lot of paperwork that goes into getting those shares of the company transferred!! The lawyers in this book did a bad job, is ...more
This book is adorably hot and cute.
The plot line is a bit predictable, but still... I had a lot of fun reading it. :)
I loved Henry and Vicky. I hated Vicky at times but given the circumstances maybe it was alright.
I would have loved it if the ending was done a little better. It was too abrupt for my liking. But I love what Henry did for Vicky. And it was still a great read.

This started out so well. Despite the very ridiculous premise (a dog inheriting a company after his owner's death), I was initially hooked by the plot. I loved the heroine, her resilience and sass reminded me one of my favourite heroines ever, Sugar Beth from Ain't She Sweet by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I was also excited for the hate-love relationship between the hero and the heroine.

However, things started going downhill for me after the heroine almost immediately started lusting after

This was my first full length book by Annika Martin. I read the book she co-wrote with Skye Warren. I loved this book! It was funny, it was sexy, it was emotional, it was angsty. I just loved everything about this book.

In the beginning, Henry comes off as real jerk but then you slowly see him opening up to Vicky and then becoming enamored of her. His pursuit of her starts out as a plan to get her off the board but then he comes to realize how wonderful she is as a person.

For Vicky, it is hard f

I REALLY enjoyed reading this book. It's an enemies to lovers story you are going to love!! The story is interesting from beginning to end and for those people that feel it's important for an HEA, this is the book for you!! The slow burn drove me crazy but I enjoyed every moment of it!! I laughed out loud and there was tension that made me catch my breath and my heart beat faster, not to mention the very hot, pulse pounding sex!! I definitely recommend this book and I have to say, even with the ...more

The blurb of the book makes this book sound way more interesting that I actually found it to be. I couldn't take the absurdity of keeping up with the whole dog whisperer charade and all the "drama" arising because of stupid decisions by the MC's. It got way too much for me to go on reading.

“You like my hands,’ he says, undoing another button, revealing the top of my camisole. ‘You’re going to like them even better when they’re between your legs.”

I enjoyed the banter between the main characters. It was cute, the heroine was cute, the whole story screemed cute.

BUT the dog thing... sadly I didn't like it. It felt over the top.

This author has a new fan.
I loved it from start to finish.
I have no complaints whatsoever from this book.
Henry and Vicky both were utterly lovable even though they were fucked up bad in the beginning, they more than made up for it towards the end.
Loved how the story was predictable and yet so much fun.
The book slowed down nowhere and it kept me up the entire night.
Can't wait to read more from this author.
