Quentin is the last descendant of Dracula. He was saved from certain death and changed into a vampire. For 20 years he has been pampered and has become a poor excuse for a vampire. He doesn’t know mind control or even simple vampire tricks. He’s been feeding off the staff and taking the easy option. His uncle has had enough. Quentin is an embarrassment to the Dracula name. But there’s this girl. Abigail… For some reason, she likes to roam the dark and musty castle. She claims to know nothing about vampires, but I swear she tries to kill me every damn time we meet. I would have invited her to be my dinner last night if she hadn’t fled with something very dear to me. My fang.

Now, I’m waiting for sundown to find her and get my tooth back. And then I’ll kill the werewolf that howls in the forest, because that’s actually the one condition under which Uncle Vladimir allows me to return home.

But the wolf problem is harder to solve than expected. And Abigail’s cookie-like scent is making me do really stupid things…

Quick Reasons: super entertaining; LOVE the dark, witty humor; somewhat cliche in the "vampires and werewolves lore" aspect; I was hard-put to put this down once I picked it up; so many pop culture references, I could diiiiie!

I lift the stake, the sharp point pressing into his stomach. "You better be careful, vampire. I came prepared."

Quentin gives me an intense look that feels as if it disconnects me from the world and totally pulls me into his spell. He wraps his fingers around my hand and very gently moves it higher on his body. "Go for the heart, little warrior," he whispers. "You don't want to make me suffer."

I had a LOT of fun with this book, Penguins. Of course, if you've been following my blog for a while, you'll know that I have a LOT of fun with a LOT of vampire books, so this shouldn't come as any big surprise. While this book was full to the brim with cliches about vampire and werewolf lore, I felt like the witty banter and humor of the POVs (especially Quentin's) helped keep me entertained and giggling throughout. I especially adored his habit of calling humans--particularly Abigail--food names. Cookie was a favorite--I about died laughing the first time he referred to her as such!

The character growth/arcs in this novel are endearing, though Abigail was a bit of an overdramatic soul throughout the entirety of this novel. The different obstacles these characters faced along the way happened in a pretty short window of time, but were written in such a way that I could still "believe" them. The only thing I guess I really couldn't wrap my head around, was the fact that EVERYONE ELSE in this town knew about Abigail's grandma's connection with the occult...and yet Abigail didn't have the slightest clue? That seemed a bit too unrealistic to me, though maybe Abigail just wasn't very observant.

"Don't go..." I beg her again and bring her hands up to the back of my neck where I lace her fingers. Then I caress down her arms and her sides until my palms rest on her hips again. Softly, I sway her to the final chords of the song, touching my forehead to her brow. "Just for tonight, let's pretend there's not an eternity between us."

Overall, I had a BLAST reading this novel. The characters' interactions are witty and full of sarcasm (just how I like them); the growth was believable; and I didn't have much trouble at all getting lost in this world. Hats off to Anna Katmore for crafting such a delightful, awesome journey! There's more to this story than coffin and teeth, Penguins...will you discover what lurks in the shadows? ...more

Just because you're a vampire, doesn't mean you're over the rebellious teenage phase. Being the nephew of the infamous Vlad Dracula doesn't make it any easier. But getting shipped off to Transylvania for the summer is probably the best thing that's happened to Quentin, even if it results in a bit of haphazard torture at the hands of a cookie... ahem, a girl named Abby.

This was a surprisingly sweet romance, wrapped in a dark, angsty, vampire coming of age story. Haha. I kinda expected there to be ...more
