Book five in the Vigilante Justice series brings chaos to the orderly life of one of Justice’s favorite sons.
I always thought going to prison for a crime I didn’t commit would be the most disruptive thing that could ever happen to me, but I was wrong. So wrong. Because my brother has brought a woman to town…one with eyes that set my entire world spinning and scars that bring out a protective side of me I never knew I had. She’s caught up in the motorcycle gang gunning for my friends and family, needing help, but I’m not some tough, former military guy like my brothers. Not that I’ll let any of that stop me.
Prison life taught me a thing or two, and I’m going to use all that knowledge to keep my girl safe. Even if the person she needs saving from is someone on our side of the fight.
Kristin Harte started off as a chemistry major in college but somehow ended up writing romances featuring ex-military heroes and the women who knock them to their knees…literally and figuratively. She likes drinking in the shade, snuggling under a warm blanket on a cold evening, and researching how to blow things up. Her children know nothing of what she writes, and her husband just hopes he’s not at their Chicago-ish home the day the government shows up to confront Kristin about her Google search history.
When not writing good men doing bad things, Kristin can be found writing paranormal romance as Ellis Leigh or co-writing naughty novellas as London Hale.

I absolutely love this series and can't wait to read book five in the Vigilante Justice series! I'm so ready to know the story of the black sheep of the Kennard family...😉🔥
COMPLETELY MESMERIZING!!! Title: Penance Series: Vigilante Justice Author: Kristen Harte (Ellis Leigh) Designation: Book 5 of Series, Full-Length(Approx 265 pages), No Cliffhanger, Can Be Read As A Standalone #contemporary #romanticsuspense #smalltownsaga #vigilantejustice My Rating: Five Sinfully Sexy Stars***** *The Vigilante Justice Series is true romantic suspense and NOT suspense lightly sprinkled with romance. The primary focus of each story is romance with suspense as the skillfully balanced secondary component. Although the author includes ample backstory and each book features primarily one couple, there is an underlying interconnected conflict which is resolved as the series progresses. For maximum reading enjoyment and to avoid spoilers, I highly recommend reading the books sequentially. It's one decision I'm sure you'll never regret. Penance does include profanity, explicit sex scenes, graphic violence, and physical abuse, and is recommended for adult readers only.
Oh my! I loved, loved, loved Penance, the highly anticipated fifth release of Kristan Harte's compelling Vigilante Justice series. And it's official, I'm still hopelessly hooked and Finn Kennard is my new favorite brother! The Vigilante Justice series may be the launch of Harte's career in the contemporary romantic suspense genre, but this isn't her first rodeo. For readers who may not be aware, Kristin Harte is the alter ego of USA Today bestselling paranormal romance author Ellis Leigh and half of the contemporary romance dynamic duo known as London Hale. It's no big secret and neither is the fact that I'm a huge fan and have followed her career for years. I'm a hopeless romance junkie who can't resist a good tearjerker, and romantic suspense is my all-time favorite contemporary subgenre, but I'm also somewhat of a rom-spense snob, meaning I'm pretty darn selective with the authors I choose to read. I'm passionate about quite a few things, but two that top my list, only surpassed by family, are good food and great books. When it comes to food, I'm very much a meat and potatoes kind of girl which, surprisingly, also applies to my choice in literature, meaning I enjoy reading something I can really sink my teeth into, the kind of book that satisfies all my cravings - danger, drama, action, adventure, angst, mystery, suspense, humor, passion, and romance but most importantly, it must be well written with creative storyarcs, intriguing conflicts, and engaging characters. If you've read any of Harte's previous work, you may already know that she's is a gifted storyteller and skilled wordslinger who excels at creating sensual storylines set in vividly depicted worlds populated with larger-than-life characters, and heroes who always walk a very narrow line between right and wrong, and that certainly holds true in both her paranormal and contemporary works. But one thing you may not know is each and every story contains a piece of her heart and soul. It's not something she claims or takes credit for, but it is something you can feel when you've read as many of her books as I have, and I've read them all - every single one. Am I biased because I'm a fan? Maybe, but I'm also honest. I purchase her books with my own hard earned money and would never be anything other than truthful in my reviews. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion and this is mine, completely unsolicited. Already being familiar with Harte's work, both as Ellis Leigh and London Hale, my expectations were high and once again, Harte didn't disappoint. She not only met them, but she also surpassed them and delivered it all in Penance. But folks, this ain't yo mama's secret stash of romance - it's waayyy HOTTER with a heaping helping of steam, a generous splash of danger, a heavy sprinkle of suspense, and a whole lot of the feels! It's romantic suspense on steroids, but to tone it down and put it simply, Penance is a heartachingly beautiful love story you won't be able to stop reading until you reach the final page, and most certainly one that will be remembered long after the final word is read. I snickered, snorted, sniffled, snuffled, sighed, sobbed, and screamed in anger through the entire story and LOVED every single second! I was a complete basket case by the time I finished.! lol... But all jokes aside, there's nothing I enjoy more than heart-wrenching stories about protective, honorable heroes walking a very narrow line between right and wrong, and sometimes good and evil, occasionally becoming men who find themselves having to do very bad things to protect the people they love, and Kristin Harte totally ripped my heart right out of my chest with this one! This entire series is pure crack for romantic suspense addicts! If you've read any of the books in the series, then you've already met Finn Kennard, ex-con and twin to Elijah Kennard, but in Penance, we finally get the story of Finn's former life as an addict, what led up to his incarceration, his daily struggle to stay clean, and his attempt to atone for his past mistakes. And OMG, this story will absolutely rip your heart out! But, as usual, I digress when talking about the books and authors I love, so let's talk details!
Penance is a riveting, edgy, fast-paced, full-length standalone novel filled to the brim with pulse-pounding danger, edge-of-your-seat adventure, heart-pounding action, spine-tingling suspense, heart-wrenching angst, intense drama, explosive passion, tug-at-your-heartstrings romance, and, of course, steamy dreamy sex. After all, this is a Kristin Harte/Ellis Leigh story and anyone who has read her work in the past already knows Leigh pens some of the dirtiest talking alpha heroes and the dreamiest sex scenes ever! Penance is, by far, the darkest of the books we've seen to date in the series and not for the faint of heart. The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly-defined dual perspectives from the two protagonists Finn Kennard and Jinx Reid. The dialogue is smart, snappy, gritty, sometimes humorous, exceptionally well executed, and flows effortlessly. Harte/Leigh's stories move at lightning speeds yet are always comfortable and easy to follow with no unnecessary fluff or filler. But without a doubt, my favorite element of every Harte/Leigh story is the cast of intriguing characters. Don't get me wrong; I think all the components of a book are important: world, plot, conflict, resolution, along with overall craftsmanship including title, cover, formatting, execution, and editing, but without engaging, relatable protagonists complemented by a strong cast of entertaining ensemble players, there is no story. In my humble opinion, Kristin Harte/Ellis Leigh writes the most unapologetically protective, possessive, passionate, and fearless heroes and heroines I've ever read. And Finn and Jinx are no exception!! The premise for the Vigilante Justice Series is based upon the Kennard family, a tightknit group of four brothers, Alder, Bishop, twins Finn and Elijah, and one sister Lainie, from the fictional town of Justice, Colorado, but also includes their friends and members of their tight-knit group of protectors. In Penance, we return to Justice and the timeline picks up immediately following the end of Reparation, where Alder and Deacon have rescued a battered young woman from the Soul Suckers MC after settling a long overdue debt with Shye's stepbrother Pistol. You know how some characters just jump out at you in a story. Well, that's what happened when Jinx was first introduced at the end of Book 4, Reparation. Finn's book has been probably one of the most highly anticipated of the series. I knew Finn and Jinx both had an important story to tell. I also knew it would be a hard one to read, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would connect so intimately to two characters and relate so intensely as I did with Jinx and Finn. This story just gutted me! Without a single doubt, Penance is Harte's best work to date, and that's saying a lot since I love everything she writes. Finn and Jinx are unforgettable characters, ones who will restore your faith in love, make you believe anything is possible, that the good guys can win against evil, and will remain in your heart long after the final page is read. I fell in love with both Finn and Jinx, but I truly related to Jinx's character on an extremely personal level and have the physical and emotional scars to prove it. My heart literally ached for this young woman. Finn and Jinx are such complex and deeply flawed characters, and the interaction between them is nothing short of mesmerizing. In Penance, Harte captured the very essence of these two very troubled characters, brought them to life for readers, and showed the true power of love and loyalty. Well done, Kristin Harte. Well done, indeed!
Did I like this story? No, I LOVED it! I was glued to my seat from the first page to the last, completely captivated, white-knuckling my reader with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the pages flew as quickly as the time, and adored every single minute! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language, violence, and sex. And who knew Finn Kennard could be such a charmer with all his sweet and dirty talk to Jinx?! *swoon* I guess he picked up a few things from his older brothers! lol... This book does NOT end with a cliffhanger and could probably be read as a standalone but to avoid possible spoilers and enrich your reading experience, I highly recommend reading the books of the series sequentially. Each story features a different couple finding love, but there is still an underlying interconnected conflict is resolved as the series progresses. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! I can hardly wait for Book 6! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Well done, Kristin Harte! Well done, indeed!
Recovering drug addict Finn Kennard served 7 long, hard years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. But even five years after being released, his life still revolves around control, structure, and daily rituals. Thanks to the support from his twin brother Elijah, younger sister Lainie, and friend Deacon Manns, Finn is twelve years clean and sober, and he plans to stay that way. Most people would think working at Deacon's bar, The Jury Room, would be hard for a recovering addict, but alcohol has never been his weakness. However, the beautiful, tatted young woman named Jinx Reid might just be the death of him. Jinx had recently been rescued from the Soul Suckers MC and her secrets run deep. Jinx's trust in anyone is in short supply, but for some reason, she trusts Finn Kennard. She senses a kindred spirit in Finn and every time she sees him, she wants, wants things she can never have. Love doesn't come easy to people like Finn and Jinx, but both soon realize that some things, and some people, are worth sacrificing everything for... and maybe even worth dying for.
Title: Penance Series: Vigilante Justice #5 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Kristin Harte Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre: #Contemporary #Suspense #Romance #5Stars🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟 •••••••••••••
........ •••••••• Introduction to Vigilante Justice •••••••......... The Kennards go back for centuries always taking care of the people, keeping them safe in little pint size town of Justice, Colorado. The Kennard's were the law even if the lazy crooked sheriff thought otherwise. Alder and his friend Deacon (who owned The Jury Room) served together in the Army's Green Beret's Special Forces. While Alder's brother Bishop and friend Gage (who was always with his K-9 Rex) were in the Navy Seals, plus Camden was Marines anyone who was smart enough knew better than to screw with any of them. Even Finn though selected a different path.
🔹️Finn Kennard aka: Fish, an ex addict, trying to stay clean. He definitely has OCD, every thing had its place in his home and his life. Widdling wood helped him to stay at peace, he has made many mistakes in his life, plus had been unjustly put in prison. So he watched everything but the minute he met a tiny women he knew he was in trouble in more ways then one.
🔹️Jinx is little bit broken, how could she not be, being a toy to the deranged Black Angel's Pres and his crew. Looking for her mother she made the worst decision of her life.

Finn’s story has been at least 4 books coming now. And it’s just what I thought it’d be. Sweet, hard, sexy in all the right places, and so darn honest.
I loved an underdog. Especially when they turn out to be a very strong characters. Kristin Harte did Finn Kennard justice in the way that we were led to believe he’s damaged, somewhat hidden and submissive. In Penance we learn he’s a very different character than we had originally thought.
Jinx (Kristin, did I miss where he real name was revealed?) is the sweetest young woman who was abused in a way most of us will never be able to understand, and in reality, shouldn’t ever be put in a position to understand. All for trying to find out what happened to her mother who disappeared off the face of the earth.
Jinx got mixed up with a militant and cruel MC, claimed by the president, and barely survived having been transferred as a lost commodity in a card game. Saved by Alder, she is now learning to heal in Justice. With the help of Finn who fell for her pretty much from the first moment he laid eyes on her.
Finn and Jinx’s story is just as I’ve described in the first two lines of this post – a perfect balance between sweet and hard. And most important of all – it has a happy ending.
Just when I thought I had found my favorite Kennard brother, Kristin Harte brings a new one in for me to claim! This was such a great story from start to finish.
Finn is so different from what we have been reading in this series. But when he turns the volume up, everyone is listening. Add in the wildcard Jinx and this match is MFEO! She’s a hellcat trying to get answers and keep everyone st bat and he’s just a man trying to find his place and footing. Throw in a biker gang or TWO and I’m getting shushed from my hubby.
Another well written story that keep me on the edge of my seat!
Finn Kennard, a recovering addict with a conviction record. He loved his family and even though sometimes he couldn't forgive himself for his past actions. He would lay down his life for his loved ones, no questions asked.
He wasn't suppose to crave the beautiful yet dangerous new resident in Justice, Jinx Reid (REPARATION). That woman was trouble with a capitol, T...he knew he should stay away from her but he was drawn to her like a moth to a flame.
Jinx Reid, she had a rough life up until the day she was rescued from the Soul Suckers by Alder Kennard and his best-friend Deacon Manns. She had secrets that could destroy the new live she was building in Justice.
She never knew what it felt like to be loved unconditionally by anyone then she met the Kennard men and their lovely ladies. And she found herself craving that kind of love. She never expected to find herself drawn to Finn Kennard.
The latter went to jail for a crime he didn't commit, he needed consistency. Only Decon really knew the hell he went through all those years while he was incarcerated. He and Jinx complemented each other, they both felt broken. But together they were stronger than they thought. They found HOME.
The Soul Suckers and the Black Angels were both in Justice to cause trouble for Jinx and the Kennards especially Finn. But they all underestimated the latter and that was their first mistake.
Loved the bond between Finn, his twin brother Elijah and their baby sister Lainie. She was angry with their older brothers Alder (PAYBACK) and Bishop (RETALIATE) for some reason.
PENANCE is the fifth installment in Kristin Harte's VIGILANTE JUSTICE series. What an intriguing, sinfully deliciousness and mind-blowing ride. Two thumbs up and a recommendation for you guys to give this series a try!
With each book in this series I fall more and more in love with these characters. This fifth book focuses on Finn a man that has a heavy conscious and because of this he lives a very ordered life. Routine for him is key to his being able to function on a day to day basis. Some of that order is thrown into flux when Jinx walks into The Jury Room.
This is a woman that has her own demons. And so begins a story that had me on the edge of my seat for a good portion of it...I was tense with anger at what this beautiful woman had to withstand, I hurt for Finn because his life can't be normal, at least by society's standards and when they're together something so beautiful comes out in both of them.
It's not an easy story, but it's one that is beautiful written by Ms. Harte. This is also a quick moving story as it's taking place right after Reparation. There's a lot of action happening in Justice and everyone is bound and determined to win the battle with the Soul Suckers to keep their little town clean of all evil doings!
I loved how Finn found love with Jinx. They really are perfect for each other. So damaged but capable of loving unconditionally with the right person. Ms. Harte has done a phenomenal job with this book. I once again was carried away to this tiny town and feel a vested interest in all the residents.
I know there's more coming and I can't wait to see what happens next!!!!
Love, love, love this Series! This book grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let go until I finished it.
Finn needs order and routine (OCD extreme) to everything he does in order to fight the demons always fighting in his head to slip up and get high.
Jinx has had a hard life being raised by a mom that uses her body to get what she wants and in doing so falls into the grips of a motorcycle club. Jinx gets mixed up with the MC when she tries to find her mother and endures horrible abuse in order to get the answers she is looking for.
Alder Kennard, Finn’s older brother, and his BFF Deacon, rescue Jinx from the Soul Suckers when they are seeking justice for Alder’s girlfriend Shye.
Finn and Jinx are both strong individuals with broken souls. Can a little chaos help both of these souls heal and find the love they both so deserve. Penance can be read as a stand alone, but it is so much better to read them in order so you have all the back story that is mentioned in Penance. I highly recommend Penance, it is suspenseful, emotional, romantic, and does not disappoint! Well done Kristin Harte!
As with all the other stories in this series, I loved it! Finn Kennard has been the brother in the background of all the previous stories, but this is his tale. He is seen as broken and someone to wear kid gloves around by some, especially his older brothers. But, Deacon (Alder Kennard’s BFF and ex Green Beret), sees beneath the surface and helps keep Finn grounded and in control. Routine and order are very important to Finn’s recovery and life, but when chaos is introduced in the form of a spunky, blonde named Jinx with demons of her own Finn goes into full on Kennard protection mode. They will both have to adjust to the chaos in order to survive what is coming for the town, and Jinx in particular. Can two broken souls find the missing pieces that make them whole together? Or, will the Soul Suckers MC succeed in breaking another piece of Justice? The unknown is what lies ahead for this town, but I cannot wait to see where the journey takes us. I will say though, revenge is best served Kennard style for the men and women who call Justice, Colorado home!
Finn and Jinx were a pair made for each other but didn't know it until they met. Star cross love. Most people would look at Finn as the weakest link in the Kennerd family but they would be highly mistaken. Just like all the men in this family they run Justice and they took care and protected their women. Jinx made the ultimate sacrifice looking for her mom giving herself to the motorcycle club and fed into their lies to find her mom . Finn did what a man in. Love had to do to get his woman back. But in the between stuff was hot and steamy. He even brought her a bunch of green vegetables per her request. Such a romantic. She got to see a side of Finn no one got to see. He brought out her girlie side and love someone besides her mom. Brought down her wall. I loved this powerhouse couple.
I forget just how well Ms. Harte writes until I read another of her books. This one does not disappoint. So be forewarned, once you start you won’t to put it down. As usual for her writing the book has it all, romance, suspense and well - justice. This is Finn’s story or more like Jinx’s since if you’ve been reading the series you know about Finn. Except the book takes you into Finn’s mindset which definitely blows you away. Can’t help but admire the man and loved it when he finally shows his grit. You could read it as a stand-alone but don’t you’ll miss out on to much about Finn and the other characters. Highly, highly recommend- this is one series you don’t want to miss out on.
This is the fifth book in this series by Kristen Harte. The books are gritty and intense. I really like this one about Finn and Jinx - two people who need love. The books are about a group of men and women who are trying to keep a bad bunch of bikers from taking over their town. They believe in vigilante justice and protecting the ones they love. It's been a riveting ride, each book seems to flesh out what's been going on and why. I requested and was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy from the author. This is my voluntary review, if you want an intense motor cycle read, give these books a try, you'll be hooked as well. I can't wait for the next book!
I adore this series and every book in my opinion just gets better and better, I know if I’m needing to get myself back into reading these books are the ones to go to. I adore the storylines in each one and just love the characters. I loved Jinx from the end of the last book and throughout this one I just thought she was such a lovely character and you just felt for her. I’ve always wanted to know more about Finn and honestly this book didn’t disappoint me at all now onto the next one I cannot wait.
To be honest, I wasn’t excited to read Finn’s book. Boy was I wrong. This was a great read! Emotional and powerful. A character that seemed fragile through the eyes of his brothers, was definitely not.
Finn Kennard, the brother unlike the rest, is an ex-addict. His world since leaving prison for a crime he didn’t commit is regimented and routine. That is until Jinx enters his life. Can he continue to live with the need for control and routine, while wanting Jinx who is chaos personified?
Let me start out by saying that in my opinion, if you want to get the full enjoyment of this series, you should start from the beginning. However, out of all the books is this series, Penance is about the most standalone you can get. There’s a story that arcs throughout every book about the town of Justice, Colorado and its long-standing rival, The Soul Sucker MC …. That’s why you should start at the beginning with Payback. In Penance, even tho the MC does play a part in the story, it’s not really about the town and more about our leading lady, Jinx.
I’ve followed this series from the beginning and have been extremely pleased with every story, but Penance was more than pleasing. It was extraordinary. It was magical. It’s Kristin Harte’s best work yet! #TRUTH
The story of Finn and Jinx is not an easy story. Neither of them lived a life of rainbows and gumdrops, quite the opposite. There are some serious issues raised in this story that might make some of you need to pause and breath before you move forward with the journey, but trust when I say that moving forward will be well worth it. I myself have an intimate relationship with the issues raised in this story and I had to pause. I had to breath. I had to cry. And then I was elated. I was overjoyed. And I was so damn proud of Kristin for writing this story and doing it right. The journey unfolded with precision and perfection.
Finn and Jinx are two sides of one coin. They are kismet. They were to each other, exactly what the other needed and could love. Their chemistry was palpable from the moment they set eyes on each other and it jumped off the pages! Their story will capture your attention from the very beginning, and you will find yourself wanting to read it over again the minute you finish. It is captivating and anticipatory, and it will keep you on edge until the very end.
Penance is a story of survival. It’s a story of trust. It’s a story of growth and acceptance. It’s a story of family and friends. It’s a story so full of heart you just will not want it to end. Again, I cannot recommend this series and especially this book enough. Outstanding!
I really liked Finn & Jinx’s story. I’m glad we finally found out more about Finn & his history. I really liked these two characters & of course I enjoyed all of our favorite ones returning in this book.
I love this series. Penance is one of my favorites in the series. I loved Jinx and Finn's story. It was so well written. I loved how these two tortured souls found each other and brought the best out in each other.
What a book Kristin has done it again with this story of Finn and Jinx. We find out more about Finn and how his life is turning out but one good thing to come out of it is the relationship with Jinx. I received this copy for an honest review which I have given
Once again I am swept away with the story in this book. Jinx and Finn well their story , I honestly do not know how to describe it , you need to experience it and that is just what you do when you read their book. You are pulled I to their world and live it as you read.
Wow, another great story in the series, with strong characters both male and female. I would recommend this series to adults that enjoy stories that are funny, hot and steamy, suspenseful, and very romantic. Well done.
I have loved the previous books in this series and I'd been eagerly awaiting this book. Well. I'm completely underwhelmed. I didn't like either Finn or Jinx. It's hard to maintain interest in a book when you dislike both main characters. Ugh.
What a wonderful story. I just love the strength and determination of Finn. All the hardships both he and Jinx have gone through and to come out on the other side and be so strong and able to love is heartwarming. Definitely give this book a read.
