Big fan of S.K. Lessly's stuff, as I've said before. I'll read anything she puts out. I was eager to get started on My Redemption. I really like how the heroine, Lauren, talks directly to the reader when expressing what she's feeling and thinking inside. Her attraction to what turns out to be her next door neighbor, Paul, is pretty instant. Actually, it's pretty instant between the both of them, but they tread very lightly and conservatively given that both are married. Their relationship of longing remains one of friendship for quite awhile, but you'll see, I was a bit disappointed about how the respective spouses become exes and clear the way for Paul and Lauren to be together. Why demonize them? I think in real life, couples splitting up is a lot less dramatic than that and most of the time, growing apart is just exactly what it is..growing a part. Nobody doing crazy things to destroy the other person. Yeah, people cheat and lie, of course, but what I guess I'm trying to say is that the story would have been more interesting if the spouses of Paul and Lauren weren't made so damn unlikeable. Otherwise, I did enjoy the story and of course, there's some mega hot love scenes. Paul is a dreamboat. Well written, complicated characters. I like Lauren, but why her family so messed up. She's a university professor, an Ivy league graduate and they really view her as a failure? Strange Black family lol Okay, anyway, I'm looking forward to reading book 2 and see what happens with Paul and Lauren's relationship. 3.5 stars.
