Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.

Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.

In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.

Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.

In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.

Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.

Peter is walking in the dark with his sisters and Mrs. Rabbit to collect pumpkin for Halloween from Mr. Bunny. Every time he hears a rustle or sees a shadow, he jumps. When they meet Benjamin who brings a pumpkin pie, they all walk together to go back home and Peter isn't as scared of the dark anymore as he used to be.

It's a nice story with great pictures.

Adorable illustrations (as one would expect, as they are similar in style to Potter's original creations). The story is nothing remarkable, but if you're looking for a sweet, gentle Halloween story or one that doesn't involve trick-or-treat or monsters/witches etc. this would be worth considering. There are a few moments where Peter is frightened by noises or sights in the dark forest but they turn out to be harmless and he gains some courage by the end. (I will say, of course, the adult in me couldn't help but feel that a big spooky shadow turning out to be just an owl isn't actually nothing to worry about if you are a young bunny, but I assume the target audience won't be going there.)

"Although Peter knew that Mr. Bunny grew the best pumpkins, he would much rather stay at home in a cozy burrow than walk through the woods."

(Me too, Peter Rabbit, me too.)

In this one, Peter and his family are excited to pick out pumpkins for Halloween but as Mrs. Rabbit carries the lantern through the woods, Peter becomes nervous.

"It was getting darker and darker and the warmth of the burrow seemed very far away."

There a few light "scares" for Peter that end up not being too bad...or so he thinks.
"Snap! Something made a noise and all the bunnies jumped.
'Hello?' called out Mrs. Rabbit. No one was there."

Will Peter get his pumpkin? Or will the bunnies have to run back to the burrow?

I rather liked this Halloween "scary" Peter Rabbit book.

There's leaves rustling, something brushing across an arm and a fake-out with an owl - nothing that would really scare a little one but if you read it in the right voice, they might get a little spooked - which could be a lot of fun for them.

I liked the water-color-esque art, the bunnies were so fun to watch as they explored the woods and overall, I thought this one was a success!

A PUMPKIN FOR PETER tells the story of when Peter Rabbit went with his mother and sisters to go pick a pumpkin. In a spooky Halloween fashion, the forest seems particularly dark and scary, but each sound or feeling has an easy explanation. When Peter is getting very frightened, it turns out the figure which crashed into them was just Mr. Bunny and his son, Benjamin, on their way to see the Rabbits with a pumpkin pie. Peter realizes it isn't so scary, and he plans to go pick out his pumpkin another time.

Perfect for Halloween, this sweet board book features the beloved Rabbit family and Beatrix Potter quality images and story line. The illustrations are watercolor-esque and truly lovely, gracing every page. The details make them fun for young children to explore as they listen to the story.

What I loved: The story gets into a bit more of the Halloween spookiness than other young children's books, even though, at the end of the day all is alright. This different type of exploration can be delightful for young children who can get into the Halloween spirit. With lots of friends and family, Peter Rabbit is never alone, and this is also comforting, as Peter learns when the woods don't seem as spooky after he finds friends. The story is captivating and fun to read with plenty of drama and things going on. Paired with the detailed images, this book is fun to share with toddlers and preschoolers, who will enjoy following Peter on his journey.

Final verdict: A great Halloween story for toddlers and preschoolers, A PUMPKIN FOR PETER is a visually lovely book with an intriguing story line. Highly recommend for people looking for a deeper and very lightly spooky Halloween tale with an ultimate message of facing your fears, comfort and friendship.

Peter Rabbit and his family talk a nighttime walk through the woods in order to procure a pumpkin for Halloween from Mr. Bunny.

This story is based in the world of Beatrix Potter. It is misnamed as Peter Rabbit never actually gets a pumpkin. But this would be a good book to share with children who are apprehensive about the night, and it would afford them the opportunity to reflect upon their own experience and the experience of others.

И даже зловеща, бррррр!
И отново имам усещане, че нещо в превода куца, както беше с поредицата Падингтън.

The Peter rabbit books are all a little disjointed, and this fall themed book didn’t really flow.
