I enjoyed this Irish tale very much. The prince of Ireland must win a geis and goes on a quest to conquer a giant and his sisters to break a spell enabling him to mount the stallion and return home safely. I've read many fairy tales from around the world and all have their version of the evil 6 fingered cannibalistic giants of their land.

This must be a traditional Irish folktale. I read a very similar book last year with my kids O'Sullivan Stew. Between the two books, I found the illustrations and storyline of O'Sullivan Stew much more entertaining and engaging for my young children.

I really love the art style of this.
This is a classic story that exists in many alterations. I don't know that I *love* the know-it-all worldly kid trope, but I think the right kind of kid would.

Again, though, have to say I love the art. It's a water color coloring, with great facial expressions.

With a fairy tale like beginning and a dramatic plot, this Irish tale is very entertaining. The narrative is fun to read aloud and I appreciated that the author provides pronounciation guides for the Celtic words. The illustrations are colorful and complement the story nicely. We really enjoyed reading this book together.

This tale reminded us of the story O'Sullivan Stew, as the heroine in this tale has to tell a story that convinces her captor to free her and her family. I was thrilled that our girls pointed out the similarity.

Hmm. This is a tough one. I read it to my 5-year-old which was the wrong age group. The language is a bit too high. If I had been reading it to my older kids I would say it felt like a huge story being skimmed over. I'm torn because it is a good story and I'd like to give it more stars, but something was missing. It is really more of a 3.5 stars for me.

This really is a perfect read aloud for pre-school and elementary kids. It's got adventure, giants, magic horse. It has a distinctive Irish flair and the illustrations, pencil and watercolor, are simply lovely.

I loved the story, the pictures weren't the best though.

Tale reminiscent of "Jack and the Beanstalk," with unnamed characters (aka characters are "the king of Ireland," "the prince," etc.) Good for elementary school audience/readers.

Such a fun dramatic read aloud to share with students. Love, jealousy, cruelty, revenge, magic, ogres, danger and a cunning mind; many of the key ingredients to a fabulous folktale.

I really liked the illustration layout in this book. It includes not only art on the interior title page, but copyright page as well.
