The Book of Cupid is a perfectly decent poem that could grace any anthology of older English poems. In fact, it’s so good it was mistaken for Chaucer’s work for five hundred years.

The Two Ways is incredibly boring. It’s a religious tract, possibly Lollard, but thought to be so by quoting the Bible and avoiding any mention of transubstantiation. In other words, any interest it might have had in not actually on the page. It twice put me into a profound slumber, so if you’re looking for a natural sleep aide…

The glossary is substandard.

The introduction is pretty good and lays out clearly what is known of Clanvowe’s life, though without any mention of his having been a massive homosexual, which is what his wikipedia page appears to be primarily interested in. But that’s kids today, isn’t it? Sex sex sex. It’s all they ever think about.
