With the agony that was the way the last book, Monster Museum, ended, I was so eager to get my hands on the newest installment. I had to know what happened next and I knew that it was going to be quite the adventure, both emotionally and physically for Ellie and all her friends and I couldn't of been more excited for it.

What I wasn't expecting was how much darker this whole book was going to be. Not only do we get dual point of views but one of those views, is from the very villain himself and I couldn't of been more thrilled about it.

Oh boy, to be inside his head! The darkness, the rage, the pure horror of it all. Honestly, I loved it! It added such a wonderful touch to not only the book but the series as a whole.

This really was an action packed read that had so many emotions to it. From the darker sadder aspects to the more heartwarming ones of friendship and true family.

Truly a wonderful addition to the series and I'm hoping, even with all that transpired, we will still have many more volumes to come because I'm really not ready to say goodbye to Ellie and all her friends and the ghosts that thy hunt down.

Fire Devil
(Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper #11)
by J.L. Bryan

This book took Ellie and gang across the US in search of her possessed friend. Her friend is possessed by the entity that killed her parents. He has always been obsessed with her, the one he missed. He also kills by fire. So it's best to read previous books to know the whole background of the team and the enemy.

Along the way they are confronted with hostile ghosts, scared and desperate souls, ghosts that need to rest by having truth known, and they find that a ghost has been captured! They help those they can but can't really wait because they have to find their friend.

There is a lot of good paranormal activity and ghost activity for all ghost lovers. Great characters too! We get a quick look at the peculiar guy that is to perform the exorcism if they find their friend. He seems to be quite the character!

I really enjoy these ghost adventures. Not really scary but have their moments of great supernatural suspense. Love all the ghosts! Perfect for people that want to read a ghost book but really don't want to be scared to death! Just a little thrill! To me they are just right.

I’ve been loving this series and the character’s from the very first book. This final showdown was a long time coming and I was excited and a bit sad to read it.

So, I settled in, prepared to read about half the book and then go to sleep. Ha! I read this, no, devoured this, in one sitting. There’s very little let up in action when it begins and the scary parts were very scary. I feared for the lives of many of these character’s. Ellie’s nemesis is frightening and would do anything to tear her down, before then destroying her.

Talk about edge of your seat reading and hair raising scenes. It’s a race across the country and against time and the suspense over what was coming what kept me up til the wee hours, having to know. Wish I could tell you how it ended.

I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.

Four and a half stars: A haunted road trip that digs up some fascinating history.

Ellie and Michael are in pursuit. They are desperately trying to rescue Michael’s sister from the evil ghost known as Anton Clay. Their trip takes them, along with Stacey and Jacob, cross country. Along they way, the gang encounters more ghosts and hauntings before they finally make a last stand confrontation in the town of Peshtigo, a town that was wiped up the map in 1871 by a raging fire. The perfect place for a fire possessed ghost to do the most damage. Will Ellie be able to finally rid herself of Clay?
What I Liked:
*Fire Devil is one heck of a road trip. I loved that this book followed Ellie and the gang cross country, allowing for more haunted history, and believe me, the history doesn’t disappoint. I also liked that this book was one that ended some of the major story arcs that have been ongoing in the series, while laying the foundation for new adventures. I am ready for new things for Ellie and company.
*I was absolutely fascinated by the town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin. In 1871, the same day as the Great Chicago Fire, this small town was completely destroyed by a large fire, killing some 2,000 souls. I had no idea! I thought it was brilliant the way Mr. Bryan incorporated this into the story. It was the perfect backdrop for the final last stand confrontation. I loved that he included real life history in this one.
*I love a good road trip book, and this book had one heck of a road trip. The gang drives cross country to California, and then on to Wisconsin in pursuit. Each stop presents more ghosts. This isn’t a joyride road trip that’s for sure!
*I liked that this book was all about tying off some of the ongoing story lines. It was a relief to finally get some closure on some of the main story arcs. It was one heck of an ending! I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.
And The Not So Much:
*There was an interesting portion of the story where Michael reencounters his dad. I was disappointed in the way this played out. I am hoping that maybe it will be revisited again.
*I wish there had been a bit more of the haunted history, there were some mentions of some particularly haunted areas on the road trip, and I found myself wishing they could stop and investigate. Maybe Ellie and the gang can do another road trip down the line.
*Nealon, the exorcist, was an interesting and eccentric addition to the story. I found myself wishing that he had played a bigger role. Hopefully, he will be back in another book as I want to know more about him.
Fire Devil was another thrilling installment in the Ellie Jordan Ghost Trapper Series. This book is one that concludes some of the major ongoing story arcs while laying the stage for more adventures to come. I am a fan of this series and always eager for more. If you want a fantastic paranormal series, look no further. You need to read Ellie Jordan!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for this review.

Eleven books in and I’m no where close to being tired of Ellie Jordan, her crew or their escapades. Fire Devil may be one of my favorites in this series so far.

Throughout the Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper series, readers have known about Clay. He’s only been front and center in a few books, but he’s always there. He’s the reason why she started hunting and trapping ghosts in the first place. In Fire Devil, things finally come to a head and she risks losing everything to take Clay down. Even her own life.

The action and danger didn’t slow down in this one at all. The whole crew was together, with a few additions. Their main goal was to release Michael’s sister from Clay’s clutches and destroy Clay in the process. Hopefully without anyone else getting hurt… or worse… in the process. Along the way they encounter even more restless spirits and solve a few mysteries, while opening up even more. Clay has a sinister plan, which they have to figure out and fast.

Ellie learns more than she expected and gains something that she thought was forever lost. Just one of the many reasons why I loved this one so much. I can't wait to see what J.L. Bryan has in store next for Ellie Jordan. 😉

I received Fire Devil in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have adored this series from the very start a mere 11 books ago. But I was not crazy about this one. It actually pains me to say that. I am still giving this book 4 stars because the first and the last parts. It was the middle that I just did not like. It was a lot of nothing and sort of boring as well.

But I still love this series and will still happily read whatever Bryan dishes out for Ellie. Because while I didn’t love this book, I still care so much for Ellie and her friends. And we do get an amazing conclusion to the whole Anton Clay nightmare. Bryan finished this one off spectacularly. 4 Stars!

I received Fire Demon before publication, and life took over so it took a while to get around to finishing Fire Devil, and then writing up my review.

I have loved the Ellie Jordan; Ghost Trapper, series from the beginning and I look forward to each new addition to the series. The previous book left us with a cliff hanger and I had to know what was going to happen next for Ellie, Michael, and the rest of the gang.

Ellie and Michael have now realised what has happened, are trying to find Melissa and stop Clay from doing more damage than he already has. Battered and bruised from their encounters with ghosts Ellie and Michael quickly lick their wounds and go on the hunt with the plan to meet up with Stacey and Jacob once they muster some help themselves.

I really enjoyed Fire devil, the different points of view, especially Clay, the journey that the gang take to find Melissa and stop Clay, and the detail and history that went into the book that makes it a perfect story to tell.

We got to see some strangers and learn of peoples past, as well as being on edge during some pretty tense scenes, wondering what was going to happen. I loved the progression of the story, but with the ending comes a lot of questions, mainly what’s going to happen next for Ellie and the gang.

No Ghost Trapper book would be complete without the humour, and Fire Devil definitely has that within the pages.
“This town has a lot to offer,” Jacob said. He was looking at his phone. “There's a racetrack...casino...oh, look! A farm with a hay maze—”
“No,” Stacey, Michael, and I interrupted, all at once.

So... this book was a bit... weird. It's very different from all the other Ellie books, it has its ups and downs.

Ellie and the gang are chasing Melissa aka Anton aka Clay. (I swear it was driving me mad the fact that Ellie could not pick a name to use and just stick with it. I mean, yes, he's Anton Clay. Call him, Anton. Or Clay. But just stick with one PLEASE) and he just kept on leaving them little clues on where he was going and why he stopped at that specific place like some bizarre The Amazing Race but with a murderous ghost in it.

There were things that felt a bit random and unecessary for Anton to do: like to seek out because he could've done all that after killing Ellie. Let's face it, she was basically the only treat to him at that point and he was taking ages to kill her.

The so called exorcist they had with them was very much useless but that was it, basically. I was expecting waaay more.

The best part of it all was definitely the interactions between the gang. They never fail to make me smile. I'm gonna take a break from Ellie now. This chapter is closed so maybe I'll be back after a few more books are published.

At long last, the fiery showdown between ghost hunter Ellie Jordan and her nemesis, pyrokinetic ghost Anton Clay.

Anton Clay has been killing for hundreds of years. Ellie was the only one to have escaped his fiery deaths, her parents not being as lucky. It's been over a decade and now that he has possessed her boyfriends sister she and her ragtag team plus an exorcist from Texas drive cross country to catch up with Anton for the final showdown.

This is such a great paranormal series that equally blends spooky and at times downright scary with humor. I am curious to see how finally defeating the entity that killed her family and shaped what she became will change Ellie.

This was dual perspective with our main character and the one ghost that’s been ruling her life for so long. We get some closure with one storyline that’s been around for a while and it was so good! I’m excited to get to the next one. Still love this series.

Things are finally coming to a head for Ellie and the ghost who killed her parents. Really, a ghost with an unholy love of fire and a desire to crush the one who got away is a menace to everyone who crosses him, so this was a long time coming.

Plus, Ellie's had to live with the specter of this douchecanoe since he targeted her family when she was younger and that can be wearing on a person.

That said, Ellie can hold her own against the things that go bump in the night. She's resourceful and dogged and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Given that she's afraid anyone who gets close to her might end up in her ghost's crosshairs, she's also a little reluctant to allow people close. Sure, she has a few friends and she's done the dating thing, but, really, her entire life is wrapped up around when Anton will strike next and how he'll end up hurting someone.

To finally have some closure on that aspect of her life is a good thing.

Plus, he's no longer out there terrorizing anyone unlucky enough to cross his path.

What does this mean for our plucky ghost trapper? I don't really know. The whole world is open to her now and she can lead a (relatively) normal life. She's paid her dues and all that, so maybe a little downtime is in the cards.

Then again, maybe normal is overrated.

We got all the thrills that routinely come with a team who battle ghosts with the added bonus of A WHOLE LOT OF FIRE. Because life for Ellie and the others isn't dangerous enough, right? *thumbs up*

You know that feeling when you're so invested in a series and the last book ended on a cliff-hanger and you just can't bring yourself to read the next one because your worried that the next one will end the series, or won't be good enough after that huge unresolved ending of the last book, or you just don't want to see these favorite characters suffer more heartache. Yep, that sums up my feelings before going into this book. And knowing that Ellie was finally going to face Clay after ten books leading up to it really had my guts in a knot. The ending was superb, the journey to get there was twisty and not always spot on. I loved the road trip ghost tour idea and would have loved to see more of it. And I definitely learned some new history regarding the Peshtigo fire, which I had never heard of before I read this book. I understand the frenzy to track Melissa but found the trip to be rather boring. And why introduce a new character if all your other characters are going to belittle him. So good but not the best book in the series. A good ending to the Clay storyline. I'm looking forward to the next book hoping there will be more spooky, creepy ghost action. The kind that actually sends physical chills down my spine.

It's the end...right? I bawled, cried, blundered in thanks that Ellie & her team made it through the horrible maze Anton led them through! I was so distraught at the last, but I had the utmost faith in Ellie, I clung to my faith in her and her gang to overtake Anton! And when they overtook that Monster, I bawled and cried in jubilation for an hour at least! Mr.J.L. Bryan deserves accolades of a higher.power. I am so happy here in Oregon believing there are Ellie's & Mr.. Brian's out there deciding ways to fight the netherworld! Because, you & I just never know when another Peshtigi

Absolutely frightening, horrifying, and unable to put it down! The Grimm brothers had nothing on J L Bryan! The Peshtigo, Wisconsin Fire was based on truth, unfortunately; which can still be felt in that area today. We can only pray for them, their families, their souls. J. L. Bryan reminds us, and makes us aware of, the stratas and planes of life on Earth as we know it.

A road trip of emotion

First of, let me say I'm so happy this isn't the last Ellie Jordan story. This is one of my favourite series and I would be heart broken if they ended when I've come to love the characters so well.
I was wondering how this story would pan out. It was certainly an epic journey across America for our intrepid gang. Lots of stops, starts and frustrations.
I'm not going to spoil the tale by giving away the ending. There's a whirlwind of fire and a note of promise. As long as JL Bryan keeps writing the Ghost Trapper books, I'll keep reading. One fan very happy 😊

AN AWESOME READ!!!

Fire Devil was an AWESOME, AWESOME READ!! Start to finish, it was totally hard to set down.
It's very hard to write a review about this fascinating book, without giving away all the things that will happen, from the beginning to the very end....sigh...
The chase is on to find Anton Clay and stop him from starting more fires and claiming more souls!!
Stacey, Jacob, Michael, Melissa and a new addition to the group, Tucker Nealon, all guided by Ellie to chase down Anton.
Definitely a book, you won't want to lay down, until the very end!!

I pay full price for these!

I read so fast that I have to REALLY want a book to buy it. I almost never pay full price because at a book and a half a day it gets pretty pricey, pretty quick. I have paid for 10/11 of these books and I can't even tell you how huge that is! When I found the first one, I didn't have high expectations but I was wrong...I love these books and am already waiting impatiently for #12.

This is the sequel to #10, The Monster Museum, and helps tie up some loose ends. It was an exciting ride from start to finish, with plenty of ghosts and danger for all involved. It also introduced a new character, to help them with exorcising Anton Clay from the body and soul of Melissa. I hope that there are more adventures for Ellie and her gang in the future.

Really glad to have this book out of the way. I was never looking forward to this confrontation, but in the end it's over and could have been worse.

Some parts of it were just slightly not hitting the right emotional beats for me.

Just... I don't get it. I'm a bit touch and go on continuing this series at the moment, but I'll give the next back-to-normal (I hope) one a try and see how I find it.

This book is the second of a pair, and I will say upfront, this killed much of the enjoyment for me. I gave the first book in this pair, The Monster Museum, a 1 star review, because the split just left it without a substantial story, but you can read that review separately. I am not being as caustic about this book, but my rating is low compared to most of the Ellie Jordan books, and here's why - it was too 'big'.

I don't mean in length, I mean in scope - like Terminal, which is #4 in the series, I felt the widening of the geography and the sheer number of ghosts detracted from the story - not to mention, it's finishing off the story that I think should have been in The Monster Museum. There's a whole mini story in the middle about a haunted hotel that could have been a book on its own, and it was the bit I enjoyed the most, and I loved the outcome of that bit. The actual climax of the main story I found overly large and therefore a bit anti-climatic, and I thought it was missing bits.

This book is the culmination of the long running arc featuring Anton Clay, and, as an aside here, I will mention the bits of the story that were written from Anton Clay's POV - I skipped every single one of them and it didn't matter a jot to the story - they were totally unnecessary and interrupted the flow of the plot, which has always been from Ellie's exclusive POV before. Okay, back to the finale - given how long we've been waiting for this showdown between Ellie and Clay, I knew it would be bigger than the 'villainous ghost of the book' encounter, but I was also expecting the climax to pick up other references from throughout the other books. Some it did, some it didn't, and the big one I think that was left out was Ellie's ability to skip out of her body, which seems to have just been dropped in the last few books - was it too useful? I can see why it was left out, because so much was thrown in that the climax was overstuffed anyway, but it's a talent I found interesting, so I was a bit disappointed when it didn't get used. For the climax itself, the use of an entire town full of ghosts had the same effect as in Terminal, it spread out the threat and it was just a distraction. Greta and Clay were the only two ghosts who made much impact, even Amil from Monster House was just a sidekick with a few mentions, diminishing his threat in my head - his ring was more important than him in the end. I did enjoy how Clay and Ellie faced off though - that was a well written bit of drama.

So, in summary, this is not my favourite book of the Ellie Jordan series, in fact it's my second worst, just coming in better than The Monster Museum, but unlike that book, I did not want to throw my kindle across the room after 'finishing' it, and I used quotes, because The Monster Museum didn't finish. It was an adequate conclusion to the Anton Clay arc, and I want to read more Ellie Jordan books, where I hope to be raising my review scores back up to 4's and 5's again.

Great series, but...

Most of this series I've given 4 stars and voraciously devoured book after book, even when it was way past my bedtime (just ONE more chapter!), but sadly I'm knocking a star off this one. I'm afraid I can't turn my editor eyes off and I caught more logical edits than I'd like to have. Typos I can often overlook more, but when someone's driving a car that was left at the location they're going to, I notice. When a character has one name on page 75, but a different name on page 120, I notice. We're a few more.

What I REALLY like about this story was the historical accuracies woven through the road trip. I'm glad to now know about Peshtigo. And I love a great American Road Trip! Call me crazy, but I've carried 3 cats from NJ, PA, to VA, NC, down to FL, and out to OK. THAT'S how much I love a good road trip. Seeing them talk about & stop at the small attractions and lodgings was wonderful.

I enjoyed the story, I just got frustrated by stuff. Oh! For future reference, you can't carry a portable oxygen tank in a regular back pack - it needs air flow, and you can't bring it into a burning building. It's combustible, it will explode. Retired nurse, I've seen people blow their faces off because they lit a cigarette while wearing a nasal cannula.

IMO, I thought that the final book was anti-climatic. There was so many avenues that the author could have taken with the multitude of things going on but he chose not to. The storyline needed drama to signify the importance of the demise of Anton Clay. Instead, it took up about a page toward the end...poof, Clay is dead, end of story, glad you read the books. I was really expecting more and I was left with so many questions. I really want to know what happened to the beautiful box that Michael gave Ellie in #10 but there was no mention of it beyond her looking at it in the museum. I hope she took it with her and doesn't have to go back to Ryan's because that was a huge plot mistake.

Also, could someone please tell me what the purpose of the exorcist in this final book? Maybe to introduce him so that he is part of the next set of books (?). As it is, it left me confused and wondering why bother adding him at all.

Sorry Mr. Bryan, I loved the other 10 but was sorely disappointed in #11 and the way that you chose to end the entire series.
