This volume collects never before seen adventures of degenerate genius scientist Rick Sanchez and his timid grandson Morty Smith, like the very FIRST time they met The Violators, and a very special look at the fan-favorite Cronenberg universe. Plus: Rick's made quite a few enemies in his time, so what happens when they team up to seek revenge? And you'll meet Dick and Farty, a degenerate genius scientist and his timid grandson...wait a second...find out more inside!
Featuring work by Eisner-nominated writer Kyle Starks (Sexcastle) and series artist Marc Ellerby in collaboration with all-star talent like Tini Howard (Rick and Morty: Pocket Like You Stole It), Jarrett Williams (Super Pro K.O.!), Rick and Morty animated series artists Sabrina Mati and Juan Meza-Leon, and Sarah Stern (Zodiac Starforce).
I don't know if I was just in the wrong mood while reading this or if it really wasn't that good, but this is the first volume of the main series that I haven't liked that much. Usually I feel like the comics do a good job of bringing the mood of the show and even the characters' speech patterns to the page but this one just felt off and I didn't really find myself laughing much either.
Just biding my time until the next animated season, reading through all the Rick and Morty comics that my local library has.
This one is a bit different from other volumes in that it actually continues some storylines from previous volumes, bringing back some side characters who all want revenge on Rick and Morty. It's still a bit meh, but at least they're trying something.

The art gets more inconsistent, an overreliance on retreaded side characters feels more lazy than it does a response to popular demand, and the laughs dwindle to a precious few. per issue.
Well this volume started off strong. I mean really strong. The first two issues, Rick Revenge Squad, are a solid 5 out of 5, but things dropped off pretty fast. The Dick & Farty issue was fine and had some good twists, the Vindicators Origin and the Cronenberg sequel felt like just fanboy fan fictions. But the Public Domain Adventures were the most disappointing, this could have been filled full with little gems, but instead it was mostly uninspired cliches. Still, the strength of the first two-part story was worth the read.
Fun, lots of call backs to previous issues and also the show since we get the first team up with the Vindicators. I was disappointed in the adventures in the public domain, there were a ton of characters they could have included and the story was a big nothing.
Loved the continuation of the Party Dog storyline. Dick and Farty was good. Enjoyed Vindicators 1 and the Cronenburg story was alright. The public domain shorts at the end fell a little flat.
I miss watching this show... Definitely going to rewatch this show soon. 4 Stories here:
1. Rick's Revenge Squad - A host of previous comics-only villains come back together and try to kill Rick. Of course they were brought here by Jerry... LOL
2. Dick and Farty - A laid back version of Rick (called Dick) and a raccoon-based Morty (called Farty) take over at the house while Rick and Morty were trapped in a Bathorvian Penis Prison. So many laughs in this one.
3. Vindicators 1 - AT LAST!! The story we didn't get to see on the show is represented here. Still against Worldender... and still with Vance Maximus, Supernova, Million Ants, Alan Rails, Croc-U-Bot, and Noob Noob... but also (at a very comical moment) we meet Diablo Verde, Calypso, and Lady Katana, looking like some kind of Suicide Squad rejects. LOL Well worth the wait.
4. Look Who's Cronenberging Now - Another story involving the Cronenberg versions of the cast. I wish I fully understood the appeal of the stories... but they are always funny and entertaining.
Overall, I missed these guys. Can't wait to move directly onto Volume 10. Strong recommend.
Capturing the wit and ridiculousness of the show perfectly. Adding layers to the already rich world including finding out what happened in Vindicators part 1.
We are also treated to Mr Poopybutthole breaking the 4th wall in a manner you would expect from Deadpool.
It says a lot about the quality of the writers of these stories that each one could easily have been translated to the screen in the show itself.
I appreciate how this volume of the series started in a rather self-aware manner with blatant references to previous issues and volumes because of course, it had to go there. That's totally in theme with how the show dissects popular TV and movie genres.
In this case, we have a classic comic book attempt of past enemies coming together to see if they can deal with our Rick once and for all. The action is great and the story twists totally make sense. The other issues in this volume are pretty solid adventures on their own but don't necessarily build up to a bigger story. But we do get an effect to fill in the gaps of the show like now we finally have a story for Vindicators 1. LOL
It was entertaining. Vindicators 1, a Cronenburg adventure, a portal fight with an alternate Rick, and a squad of enemies out for Rick-Vengeance (including a cool Me-Seeks character).
