I absolutely adore this series, Michelle McLean, brings us book three of The MacGregor Lairds, and this time Lady Alice Chivers educates the reader on How to Blackmail a Highlander and with great style too!

His startling blue eyes sent a fine tremor through her that had nothing to do with fear… She could gaze at his face forever…

Humor, heart and a little heat to keep things interesting, all three of the books in this series so far, h

I’ve enjoyed others in this series a lot , this one too .
Alice and Philip are brilliant characters.
I would say that if I had one criticism of this particular book it would be Ramsey.
The small pointless in my mind part he played in the plot , the way he way thrown in for all of half a dozen pages .
What was the point ?
If your going to add him , make him a big plot holder , he’s a massive draw to the story, I felt a bit cheated
He was a big part of the plot in the runn

How to Blackmail a Highlander by Michelle McLean starts off with Lady Alice Chivers dancing the night away while her mother scowls at her across the room. The reader quickly learns that Lady Alice's engagement to a decrepit, lecherous Duke is forthcoming. Out of desperation Alice comes up with a scheme that involves blackmailing a highlander into escorting her to Scotland. Posing as his sister, Alice shares his room on board a ship and all too soon, adventure and danger awaits.

They do say opposites attract and in the case of Philip and Alice, it takes a while to get there! A young lady being forced to marry a man with three dead wives and old enough to be her grandfather. What could be wrong with that? Especially since rumors are his wives died under shady circumstances. Seeing her chance Alice follows Philip, a cousin of her best friend's husband and the adventure begins. She blackmails him so he will take her to her friend Elizabet in Scotland. In a bold move she de ...more

3.5-4 Stars!! I liked this book! It can be read as a standalone but I’m glad I read the other books first because although there is some backstory given, there is a lot of crossover from the previous books & I liked the update on those couples! I didn’t really feel the love between the main characters though. Phillip & Alice just didn’t have that spark with each other. Still a good book though!

Lady Alice knows a rotten apple when she sees one. She refuses to let an arranged marriage to a lecherous old man be the death of her. This sassy, impulsive, take charge bonny lass would rather go on the lam than marry under questionable circumstances. What surprised me the most was her supposedly doting parents being oblivious to the potential risk here, and their continued “heads in the sand” behavior, which put someone else Alice cares about in jeopardy, as well. I wanted to waggle my finger ...more

Lady Alice is being forced to marry a Duke. It wouldn't be so awful if he hasn't already had three wives before her, that died in mysterious occurrences. Afraid of her future she wants to escape at any cost- even if she has to blackmail the handsome highlander...

Let me say from the beginning- this book is not really how to blackmail the Scottish warrior, I could even say the blackmail here was ridiculous. This book is more of a journey to freedom, to having a choice and finding love in between.

Spoiled and high born, Lady Alice has it all, until her parents agree to her betrothal to an earl who is much older and has a string of former wives who have died under suspicious circumstances. Everyone she confides her fears to dismisses this information as idle gossip, so Alice decides to take matters into her own hands. When Philip MacGregor arrives at her house to deliver a message from her friend Elizabet, who now lives in Scotland with her husband (who was exiled from England), Alice take ...more
I'll start off by saying I have not read this author before nor have I read the other two books in this series. I came swinging in blind and ended up having quite a good time!

Our hero is reluctant, as is implied by the title, but willing enough to go along with our heroine's shenanigans as long as they continue to end in his favor. He has the world's driest sense of humor but it does end up leading to some magnificent comedic moments. I have an undying soft spot for a man that works hard and has

This is such a fun read. I quite enjoyed Lady Alice's character. Her tendency to leap before thinking made this story very entertaining. She is definitely an infuriating woman. On this, I agree with Phillip. Poor highlander doesn't stand a chance. ;)
Alice is being forced to marry someone who scares her. She strongly suspect that the rumors about her future husband are not simply rumors. Unfortunately, her parents disagree and refuse to listen to her complaints. In the end, she decided to take ma

I slogged thru 8 chapters & by then I had thoroughly hated the heroine. Lady Alice is everything I dislike in a character: spoiled, selfish, flirtatious, thoughtless. “controlled” by her family is misleading. Her parents betroth her to a much older, rather disgusting but well to do Earl who has buried 3 wives already but is still childless. Gossips abound around his wives unfortunate demises & when the Earl corners Alice he hints to her fate should she too be unable to conceive & tot ...more

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

It has been awhile since I read book 2 but it really is explained well so if you have not read any of the previous books in the series you are not lost. I enjoyed the book but it is not my favorite kind of romance. Philip and Alice were so different and really got into their arguments which was kind of like foreplay for them.

There is mostly action as they travel from London to a castle in Scotland where Alice wants to find her friend Elizabet and es

A fun highlander romance story about headstrong Alice and hunky Philip. Sparks fly and tempers abound in this fun romp. For one, they get married at least 3 times during their adventure. This is the first book I've read in the series, so since it is book 3 there are a few things that didn't have much impact for me. For example, the creepy guy who followed them and tried to kidnap two of the ladies. Luckily it was short section, but didn't see much point. Naturally it would make more sense to rea ...more

I received an advanced review copy of this book.

I found the hero, Philip, to be more likable in this story than the heroine, Alice, in this novel. I found her to be exasperating at her inability to listen to anything Philip said to keep her safe. She was a bold character and seemed knowledgeable about some things which I enjoyed and yet so naive about others. I liked Alice’s determination to change her circumstances. She does change by the end and learns to temper her impulsiveness. As far as P

This was a good paced read with plenty of action. I loved the interaction between Philip and Alice. Alice was inclined to act without considering the consequences if her actions. Philip liked order and to think things through before he acted. This led to some entertaining moments between them. There are times of danger and passion. It seems as though there will be a story to follow concerning Alice’s maid, Rosie and Philip’s kinsman, William and I look forward to reading it.

Alice and Phillip managed to get married three times in this story. That is just one of the interesting and hilarious highlights. This series never fails to bring delight and joy. The women are feisty and Always go to great lengths to bring their men to their knees. Alice on many occasions leaves Phillip speechless with her antics. New friends are made and old ones are renewed. Alive and Phillip to the very end are joking and teasing each other as they enjoy the start of their happily ever after ...more

I loved Alice and Phillip's story!!

Alice isn't about to marry the man who has already buried 3 wives so when Philip delivers a much wanted letter from her exiled best friend, she jumps at the chance to have him help her. Too bad he doesn't seem inclined to do so. This is until she blackmails him...

Philip will do anything to protect his best friend, even if it means being blackmailed by a pampered debutant. They soon find themselves in an accidental marriage and Philip learns it is not so easy to

When Philip delivers a message from her friend, she blackmails him to get him to take her to Scotland. What will happen when the to end up married? Fast-paced, fun highlander read with plenty of drama and steamy chemistry. I really liked the characters, Alice is strong and determined and keeps Phillip on his toes. A good read.

Philip really does worship his woman, “aye,” he said with a satisfied sigh. “Well, ye do liven up my days, I’ll give ye that.” He hugged her tightly to him. I liked this book, I loved how Alice challanged Philip.

Michelle McLean grew up in California and has lived everywhere from the deserts of Utah to the tropical beaches of Hawaii to the gorgeous forests of the east coast.
