If you're looking for a short and sweet, cozy read with no mystery, danger or intrigue this one would definitely fit. I enjoyed reading this sweet love story. Yes, it has a HEA, and the characters are straight forward, down to earth, no beating around the bush people. I love a good story with angst in it, and characters who have to work at what they want, resolve their issues, I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about. But sometimes it's nice just to have a story that is completely straight ...more

Wouldn't it be awesome to discover an old abandoned mansion belongs to your family? That's exactly what happens when Patrick's dad unexpectedly dies and he discovers a deed in his dad's papers. The only problem is, Rachel's been saving up to buy this place for years, since no one has claimed it, and has big dreams for it.

Rachel is spunky and they're both stubborn, but what really struck my heart was the way that Rachel was still willing to help out and share ideas, even when things were going he

This book was just okay for me. I didn't feel any emotional connection to the characters or the story and it really started out rough for me. I feel like it picked up about halfway through, but honestly it just never really drew me in. I felt like Rachel was a bit snotty, she pitched fits over basically nothing and didn't treat Patrick very kindly. I have no idea what he really saw in her. The story did a lot of telling me but lacked the showing that leads to emotion.

It was clean though, which I

Rachel's waiting for the abandoned, rundown mansion to be listed For Sale. She can look down from one of the hills on her family's nearby ranch, and see 'her mansion'. She's got big plans to return it and the gardens around it to their former glory and open it as a bed and breakfast/hotel, since her small town in Idaho doesn't have a hotel. The closest one is an hour away.

Patrick lives and works in a big city in California. His dad died suddenly, and while going through his papers he finds the d

Rachel lives on her parent's ranch in rural Idaho. For years she has been saving her money, and planning to buy the old dilapidated mansion nearby. She is weeks away from realizing her dream, when she meets a stranger there. Patrick's father has just died. When he finds a deed to a home he never knew they owned, he flies out to Idaho to check it out.

This was one of those stories where I thanked my characters for open communication! After only a little hesitation, Rachel actually tells Patrick th

This book was absolutely what I needed to read today. Curled up in my chair next to the warm fireplace on this crisp Fall day, I was whisked away to Idaho. Being an Idaho girl myself, this book was a little like going home and I loved spending a few hours lost in the pages of this book that made me feel as warm and cozy as the fireplace did.

I so enjoyed Rachel and Patrick. I connected with them both immediately and I delighted in watching their connection. I loved the old mansion and watching it

I loved the idea of an old, run down mansion as the center of this book, and the dreams that came along with it. I liked Rachel. She’s feisty and passionate. I didn’t like the way she treated Patrick sometimes, though. He is a great guy! I loved the way he jumped in and tried things on the ranch. I questioned his ideas for the mansion, and why he ever thought his partners would agree, from the beginning. I had a hard time believing he didn’t see the issues there. I guess it could be part of his ...more

Roping His Heart (Destined For Love: Mansions) by Jaclyn Hardy
Everyone has a story.  Memories that are held close to the heart.  Dreams keep us going in times of adversity. People or places that have shaped our lives.  In Rachel and Patrick's case, a building holds the key to a world of opportunity or a heartbreak unlike any other. Jaclyn Hardy gives readers a front row seat to sentimental.  Roping His Heart is a precious journey into love, that uses beautiful descriptive dialogue and breathta
DNF at 10% when Rachel thinks its amusing/appropriate to humiliate a man who has done nothing wrong.

Its a cheap and nasty trick to try to show the reader how 'sassy' and 'assured' the woman is - but it only shows just what a thoroughly unpleasant person they really are . No one deserves to be humiliated in that way. Patrick was totally innocent - a decent polite strange who ended up being the butt of Rachel's spitefulness.

And sadly, I expect he will fall madly in love with her. If I'd been Patri

What a fun read!!! City guy meets country gal!!! A clean and sweet romance! I loved it!

This is a sweet story of dreams that are rerouted. I could relate to Rachel's attachment to the old home and her plans for it. Her behavior to Patrick was pretty hot and cold and I didn't understand why he was placating her. She invited him to stay at her ranch, but then gave him a bit of a hard time while he was there. I think she was torn between resenting him and being attracted to him. I didn't feel much chemistry between them and was more interested in the mansion and what would end up happ ...more
This was a fast, light read. I hadn't realized it was a sweet / wholesome book, and I might've given it a pass if I'd known. Those kind of books tend to feel underdeveloped to me, and this definitely fits that bill. While the characters were nice and the plot interesting...there was zero angst and almost no conflict for them to surmount. All very easy and therefore somewhat unsatisfying. I realize that some readers prefer a low-strife, nonphysical read, and this book would absolutely be well-rec ...more

Inconsistency and unbelievability doomed this novella. First of all, the author is inconsistent in her position about the availability of hotels in this small Idaho town. We learn early in the novella that the nearest hotel is an hour's drive away. The heroine, Rachel, has a long-held goal of buying a deserted Mansion and turning it into a hotel of sorts - a worthy undertaking if the nearest hotel is a full hour-drive away. Yet, much later in the story, Rachael and Patrick are discussing the vas ...more

Another clean, sweet story

I received this book as an ARC in an exchange for an honest review.

Roping His Heart is the second book in the “Destined for Love: Mansions” and is the story of Rachel and Patrick. Rachel is a farm girl who works in the family farm in Idaho. But it is her dream to buy a neighboring mansion to turn into a bed and breakfast. The mansion has been abandoned for as long as she can remember. I really enjoyed this Destined for Love Romance Mansions book! I loved the whole idea of Rachel saving up for years and years to buy the mansion she loves. She'd saved money under a floor board in the old house. Her family thought she was nuts, so it was her secret, but she was so close to being able to have her dream. Then it was snatched away! I loved Rachel, I loved the way that even though Patrick was unknowingly snatching her dream, she was still kind to him. She still offered to let him s ...more

The Cottonwood Ranch is a wonderful, heartwarming series. Clean, realistic, well written stories filled with fun characters, great descriptions and no stupid formulas. Whether writing as Jaclyn Weist or Jaclyn Hardy, her work is entertaining and filled with love.

I chose this rating because I absolutely loved this story. It was interesting to see how love changes the dreams of Patrick and Rachel. Both want the mansion; Rachel's childhood dream to make it into a hotel, she went so far as to hide money in the floor of the mansion so she could buy it. Patrick finds out when his father died that they had inherited the mansion so he hopes to see it and begins his dream of turning it into his business offices. Once Rachel knows what Patrick had

Rachel has been saving money for years to realise her dream of buying a rundown old mansion and turning it into a hotel, but is shocked when recently bereaved Patrick, turns up to look over his inheritance.
This story is a fish out of water story, with city boy Patrick out of his depth on Rachel's family ranch. The story is sweet with both characters putting their preconceived notions behind and learning to trust one another. There were a few plot points that made me think that would not happen,

Great story! I love the way this story goes. Rachel has big plans for an abandoned mansion close to her home ranch. She's going to buy the place and make it into a needed inn for the town. She's saved up a long time and hopefully can purchase the house soon. Then Patrick shows up. Apparently, he's the long lost heir to the mansion. He found the deed and decided it would be perfect for his business. Rachel is, of course, heartbroken. But being as he's a city man and doesn't know anything about li ...more
