This was emotionally stunning and charged with melancholy throughout. The setting within the midnight sun of northern Sweden gives it a palpable, heart breaking feel throughout, a deeply moving story in many ways but with a classically drawn mystery element.
Even the darkest journey must come to an end....

Set in northern Sweden, The Silver Road by Stina Jackson is a haunting and atmospheric novel about loss and endurance. In this part of Sweden the sun doesn’t fully set in the summer months so Lelle, a schoolteacher, spends his nights driving the Silver Road searching for his daughter Lina who went missing three years earlier. He was the last person to see her alive after giving her a lift to the bus stop and he blames himself for her disappearance. His marri ...more
I am such a big fan of Scandi fiction and this book filled all of the requirements and so much more. Intoxicating, atmospheric and set in a bleak landscape of the midnight sun, filled with the desperation and sadness of a father trying to find if his missing daughter is alive driving the Silver road night after night.

I had to resist the urge to throw this book across the room when I finished it. I spent the last 10% of my time reading it with my heart pounding and trying and failing not to cry. Be warned, this is not an easy read. It is raw, bleak and brutal.
The book follows the different perspectives of Lelle, a man whose 17-year-old daughter went missing three years prior to the events of the novel, and Meja a 17-year-old girl with a diffi ...more

A most haunting and ethereal novel of loss, hope, seeking answers and life in a remote Swedish village.
It’s a sad premise from the start – the idea of a man driving up and down a remote road searching for his missing daughter. It’s haunting and lyrical too and the visit to this part of Sweden is one you will never forget.
The Silver Road is a real road which runs throughout northern Sweden amongst the villages and houses of the area. It’s a lo ...more
Thank You to NetGalley, Stina Jackson and Atlantic Books for giving me the chamce to read this book.
This book was really good and yet emotional at the same time, I found myself nearly reaching for the tissues in places. I don't really want to explain the plot as I feel it will only add to the many plots out there but what I will say about this book is that I highly recommend it and dont make your mond up by reading other people's reviews, read it for yourself and see what you think.

The central idea is oh-so-familiar. Lelle’s daughter has been missing for three years, having disappeared from a bus stop one morning. Lelle’s marriage has broken up as a result, he has developed an alcohol problem and he obsessively searches the remote countryside looking for her. Mean ...more
Initially, I found it a little confusing and slow but I was soon hooked and couldn’t put it down.
This is incredibly atmospheric with the backdrop of northern Sweden, but quite simply heartbreaking.
Briefly, Lelle’s 17 year old daughter, Lina, disappeared without trace some three years before. He had dropped her at a bus stop on Silver Road, but no one saw her from thereon in.

Stina Jackson’s debut is the story of a heartbroken father, his quest for answers about the disappearance of his seventeen-year-old daughter and his eventual journey to redemption and in all honesty I found it something of a bizarre read. Whilst never quite a mystery novel nor a profoundly moving exploration of humanity it is obviously intended as a tale of da ...more
This book is beautiful and outstanding, heartbreaking. This book doesn't have a dust jacket which I love and the cover is actually apart of the book. This honestly makes reading alot easier than taking the dust jacket off and back on, I have a bad hab ...more
When Lelle’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Lina, goes missing whilst on her way to a holiday job, the police have to admit defeat. Having followed up several leads there is just no evidence as to what happened, not least lack of a body.
Lelle, however, refuses to give up the search and for the last three years he has spent every Summer night driving the Silver Road, searching woods, ditches and derelict buildings. In the winter months when darkness and snow make searching impos ...more
