Winning Local Elections: A Guide To Winning Local, County and Legislative Political Campaigns

Rate this book
Winning Local Elections is a professional and practical guide for organizing and executing a successful campaign for political office. Each topic provides the needed tools for a candidate to know how to create a campaign structure, meet legal requirements, run effective advertising, raise funds, market campaign ideas and engage voters. Winning Local Elections is a guide for a person wanting to run for a municipal, county, school board, state legislative or similar more local office where "grass roots" campaigning is essential in getting elected. Winning Local Elections was written by Dan Theno, who was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate at the age of 25, at the time the second youngest person in history to accomplish that feat. He was re-elected three more times by wide margins in a district that normally favors candidates of the opposing political party 2-1. He subsequently was elected twice as Mayor of his home town and later was the administrator of two state agencies. Mr. Theno has advised and managed dozens of successful campaigns for local and state offices in the Midwest. In this book he shares practical suggestions on how to market a candidate and organize and run a successful campaign.

Wow…this book had SO much potential. Ive probably read 25 or so books like this one - a users guide to getting elected. This is one of the first that I found myself highlighting relatively often. There were very many tactics and techniques that I have never seen addressed in other books. But then it also does things like skip GOTV entirely, never addresses early or vote by mail considerations, etc. Then when you add in the vey many misspelled or missing words, and poorly formatted text boxes that cut off the words so you can’t read it…this book comes across as overly amateurish. Great potential, but poorly executed.
