A royal kidnapping

I'm sure Ambrose and Max could have had a worse start but I'm not sure how. I loved Max and how kickass they were, they weren't taking their circumstances lying down. I enjoyed everything about this book, the storyline, the top notch world building and the engaging characters (although Ambrose was a dick for most of the book). I really enjoyed how Ambrose and Max's relationship evolved and grew as they became closer. I wouldn't mind a return to this world and it's characters,

RI-DI-CU-LOUS in all caps does not begin to epitomize my opinion about this cheesy, preposterous, weakly plotted, terribly written alien sex romp where things happen without the slightest foreshadowing and the entire cast seems to be lifted straight from an awful cartoon from the 70s. The universe building shows one of the least intelligent attempts at xenotechnology and xenobiology I have ever chanced upon; just look at the following snippet, which gives a most accurate estimate of Mr Mandrake' ...more

Looking for a book with little bit of dark and twist. Then you will fall in love with this book. It wasn't love at first site with these two. It was hate/love relationship that you get to see bloom into something wonderful. I like that this book showcase a character that was nonbinary and was able to pull it off wonderful. Hopefully we will see more from this world in the future. highly Recommend this book

Taken and Crowned is an oddly jaunty view of alien abduction. There are some issues with world building. At times, it sounded like utopian steam punk and others not so much. The beginning starts off really strong. Max is a really interesting character. Ambrose, the alien, not so much. But, I don't think he is supposed to be very likeable.

There may be triggers for some with the forced mating because Max was kinda roofied. Max does change his mind about the mating without a lot of self reflection

I was happy to read a book with a non-binary character, but I was disappointed in the execution of this book. The plot and world-building felt rushed and incomplete. I had a hard time enjoying the story even though I really wanted to. The writing was subpar, and the characterization was very weak. I just did not enjoy reading this. Michael Mandrake's written other books which are wonderful, so this was a real disappointment. Overall Rating: 1 Star.

Michael Mandrake pens complex characters already comfortable with their sexuality. Through these, he builds worlds not centered on romance but rather the mainstream and/or obscure plots we might encounter in everyday life and beyond. To find out more please visit ...more
