War of the Gods #3

A Court of Ice and Wind

Rate this book
Cass Saélihn isn't some defenseless damsel, sitting on her ass and waiting for her hot, alpha males to rescue her.

She won't accept the fate of being in another cage.Even though the torque on her neck binds her, rendering her powerless.

She won't allow Ares and Apollo to sever her mating bond to her beloved mates, no matter how they seduce, threaten, or torture her. She doesn't bend, and she'll never break.

They may have a terrible plan for her, but she's reserved worse for them. Now she awaits the one chance to strike back and return to her mates, who she knows are coming for her.

Warning: This is a full-length reverse harem fantasy/paranormal romance that features one hell of strong woman and her four powerful supernatural mates. It contains brutal battles, explicit love scenes, raw language, magic, swordfights, Greek gods, dark fae, vampires, shifters, and a lot of assholes.

I just wasn’t that impressed.

The whole book was rather bland even though going in I was super excited to read it.

Recap:
The men were F I R E, yes.
But:
Cass was.... Cass.
The word “cakes” is now ruined for me.
RUINED.
And I love cake.
I just can’t deal with her personality at the moment.

It all felt rushed.

The battle scene was elementary at best. It took me three pages to realize it was a battle lol that was awful.

Just.. ugh.

Not much to say. Not looking forward to book 4.

Did anyone else feel let down? Maybe it’s just me.

At the end of book 2, Cass was abducted by Apollo and Ares who have plans to break Cass and subject her to their will. Cass isn't the type of girl to take orders. She is about to escape when

Yeah, I don't know. As a third book in the series, it was ok. I think I might be growing weary of the series in general. Cass was growing on me in book 2, but I didn't find myself liking her more in this book; she didn't really do much, but at least she didn't slip back into just being a brat either. Apollo and Ares's characters are horrible. Like Cass, I just wanted to punch them in the face. Smut factor is a 2 out of 5; once reunited Cass and her mates get busy, but then the plot takes over again.

It has been two years since I've read the previous book in this series, A Court of Fire and Metal. So, I'll admit that I didn't want to re-read the first two books before diving into A Court of Ice and Wind. I took a gamble on this and thought it wouldn't be a bad thing if I just jumped into it. Maybe I would remember what happened beforehand or maybe I won't.

Long story short, I sort of remembered things and sort of didn't at the same time. Do I regret my choice though? No, not really. Mostly because I don't think it would have made a difference on how I felt. At least towards the characters that is. I just feel like I wasn't really invested this time around because of how easy things felt. Definitely predictable but also annoying too.

Or maybe that's just me feeling this way? Maybe if things were a bit harder for everyone or more likable in a way. Then maybe, just maybe, I would feel different while writing this review. Also, the romance was kind of slacking in this one. It's not like I was expecting something spectacular after reading some dark monster romances. I was just expecting something more since she was with her mates.

In the end, it was an okay book but not my favorite of the series. Maybe one day I will eventually finish this but today is not that day.

Another great book!

I enjoyed this book the most so far in this series. So much action and drama happened in this book that I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and tore through this book in just a few hours. I’m loving how detailed and creative this series has been. Nothing felt rushed or confusing and everything flowed so well. The side characters we have been introduced to have intrigued me and I would love to read spinoff series involving some of them. I’ll have to do some research to see if there are any and if so, I’ll definitely be one-clicking those!

We now know more about just what exactly Cass is and how powerful she actually is. I still love Cass as a main character. She still has plenty of snark and a sour attitude to those she doesn’t consider a part of her family. I can tell that given her powers, she needs to be able to find a balance to prevent her self from losing control and destroying everything in her path and her mates keep her centered and balanced. After that ending, it will be interesting to see what happens in this last book and how Cass comes back from this dark place she has found herself in.

I am addicted to this series which shouldn’t surprise me because I haven’t read a book by this author that I haven’t loved. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves RH, Greek Gods and Goddesses, vampires, fae, shifters, sexy times, nonstop action and drama, and dragons.

The men in this RH were as usual the highlight of the series even the evil ones. Cass as usual was an over the top exaggerated caricature of Minne Mouse on steroids and yes she is still gorging on those cakes.

My review is on the series as a whole not on each individual book. I purchased this series via Audible I’m not sure about the performance but overall liked the series.

So..., there are four books in this complete series. Obviously another fantasy reverse harem and they are quite fast paced. There is so much sexual tension in the first book but no actual sexy times until toward the end of the second but you know the saying about once the seal is broken, well girl couldn’t get a break not that she wanted one when it came to her mates.

The main characters each have very strong personalities and in some cases I felt were a little overwhelming. So the main female character, Cassandra, was locked in a cage for the majority of her life, she is a little naive but outspoken. There were a few time through the books that I would roll my eyes at her but then remember that whilst she maybe fully mature she is only 16 years old and has experienced life through others dreams. Cassandra has four mates, there is an instant attraction when she meets them and through each book her feelings for them grow. Cassandra’s mates whilst are ancient beings get a new lease on life when they meet Cassandra, they will do anything to ensure she lives a happy and long life. Obviously being the centre of a prophecy foretold that she would end the tyranny of the gods by ending their lives. Not that the gods would take that threat lying down and peruse her, their mistake!

Each book adds its own twist to the overarching storyline which kept it quite interesting. I felt the story wasn’t just about ensuring the survival of each of the main characters and Earth but the growth in maturity of our main characters as well.

Well, well, well! 3.5 stars. I was leaning towards 4 stars but I am holding out.. Cass, bless her heart, that girl is a freaking hotmess! I am happy to say that Cass and I are becoming friends. This book she was much less attitude everywhere and more attitude towards the right people. Almost like she matured a tad which was a huge blessing!

In this 3rd book of the War of the Gods, we got so many reveals! I really like the story line. It is really fast paced but its super interesting. Cass after being abducted by Apollo is taken to his "kingdom" in which he expects to tame her... Lol the boy just doesn't know, he has bit off way more than he can chew. Apollo in league with Ares expects to mold Cass into a "weapon" and make her his and Ares queen. As you can expect that goes over real well with Cass.... Cass discovers who she truly is, and makes some new allies just in time to meet up with our boys. Unfortunately, Cass's fate is not what she had imagined...

We really got to see Cass display some of her newfound controlled powers, which was both disturbing and funny lol. I am actually excited to see what is in store for Cass in the next book and how she is going to wiggle her way out of destiny lol.

Fear, Heart Break & Steely Determination!!😭💔⚡🍃 4.5 Stars 🌟
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)

Blimey, Apollo then Ares are sick & twisted mofo's, poor Cass!!😱😢 Stolen from her Mates & friend's Cass is rendered powerless by the Gods. She fights an internal battle with despair so that she can learn as much as possible for her Mate's to aid the war, once she breaks out or is rescued! Her guys are doing everything possible to locate her, they're getting desperate and blame themselves for being fooled by 'Noah'!😢

The fear, cruelty, threats and then torture Cass endures is absolutely awful!!😭😡💔 The more she finds out about her heritage the more shocked & bitter she becomes too. She has matured so much in her few months of freedom, of being loved & cared for and loving & caring for others, not just her Mate's.🙏💜

I loved & hated the end of this book. I dread the final instalment but can't wait to start it either!🌟

More.... just more.

Now that Cass has been stolen by the Sun God Apollo, she has to deal with his brand of crazy along with a healthy (or unhealthy?) dose of Ares. It’s s mixed bag, and one likely to end in the fires of Hades. In between this drama, her mates are desperately searching for her, unknowing that she’s been taken via the slip stream. Guess it’s up to Cass to get herself out.

While this is the main premise of the book, it’s really just the first half. The rest is dedicated to learning more about herself, her roles, along with discovering the means to destroy the Olympian Gods. It’s heady stuff. Unfortunately, with the mass of power Cass is accumulating, it seems the plot is headed for a downturn. Fiction rarely allows for all powerful beings to remain after their appointed tasks are complete, and the situation for Cass is quickly coming to implosion.

Close to the end I was actually skimming a lot. Cass...is not the worst character there is in all the books of the world that's for sure but gods does she make stupid choices, when she could simply use her words as a weapon they could easily be as dangerous as her magic. Instead of being rude as hell she could hedge around it slightly I guess...like her father instead of instantly being a rude brat she could of asked what do you want or something idk. I will read the next book however because the story is actually good, and I do like the characters just that sometimes Cass makes me want to slap her around.

This series keeps getting better!

Cass is one of the best female leads I’ve ever had the honor of reading about! She is highly entertaining, independent, loyal to those who deserve it, rude, honest to a fault, and takes what she wants no holds barreled. Don’t get me started on how funny she is! She will keep you laughing throughout the entire book! Mostly when it’s an extremely inappropriate time to be cracking up.

A lot has finally come to the surface in this book and it builds us up to what I know will be a spellbinding conclusion. I can’t begin this final journey with them fast enough!

I struggled some

I love her writing style. I love the plot and characters in this series. However there was a cpl times where it didnt transition well for me. I'm not sure what it is with this one. Something was just off at moments. It wasn't to the point that I won't finish the series but it just didnt have a consistent flow like the first 2 books. Hoping the last one in February meets expectations!😘

Cliffhanger.... ugh. Oh, Rey. It broke my heart to have him captive. During the battle, it made me realized that Alaric, Cass’s mate, is her uncle. Uhm, isn’t that kind of An incest since Alaric is the bastard son of Zeus where Zeus is Hade’s brother and Hades is Cass’s Father? Yeah, it’s fiction but the thought of mating your uncle is somehow incestuous? That just ruined the thrill, dude. So not cool.

So much happens! This book is pretty much non stop action. We learn a lot about Cass and her heritage and a lot more about her power. She is insanely strong. There is loss and drama and this book was so entertaining! The ending was heart breaking and I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up in the next book.

The sex scenes in this book kick it up a huge notch. Cass becomes ever more kick butt cool. The overabundance of cake in this book is funny. At the end of the book there are a few curve balls thrown and it will be interesting to see how this all plays how, and how the series will end.

What a series!

This one is one of the best in the series. How far the main character has gone, changed; it makes me think of how fast we can change if given the chance. Adore the characters, thank you for your your work on the book.

Someone actually came between Cass and her cake. I'm not going to tell you who, but I will tell you that it doesn't last long and she quickly returns to loving her favorite food. I swear my jaw hit the floor when I read that.
With every book in this series, I love Cass more and more. She is still that wonderful blend of immaturity and fearless God that I enjoy so much. She is still the spunky, kick-a**, hard-outer-shell-with-a-gooey-center, protector and destroyer. I love her recklessness and her fake it til you make it take on every situation. I love the way her men spoil her and treat her like the treasure she is. I love the way she is collecting friends and protectors while at the same time snubbing her nose at all her enemies.
Things are starting to peak in this one. New enemies are encountered, new alliances are formed, and things get a little bit darker for Cass. She is starting to get more info on who she really is and just what she's capable of (YAY!) but that knowledge brings her to the attention of people she isn't quite ready to deal with. There is pain in this one. Not everything is a bed of roses and there is sorrow mingled in with the joy, but that is what happens when you go to war with the Gods.
I love this series. I love Meg's writing style and the way her words pick me up and place me in the story like I'm living it. I love the bits of humor and the glimpses of dark that coexist in this world. I am enjoying tagging along while Cass grows into herself and all the struggles that go with that. The story is fast-paced and has plenty of action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is also passion and romance that heats you up and melts your heart. I am once again waiting impatiently for the next book in this series and I highly recommend this and every other book by this author.

Cass isn't letting Apollo and Ares get the best of her. There was a real chance that she was going to be r@ped by them, but she kept her cool. I love that the female goddesses Artemis and Demeter have had enough of the male gods' crap. They are willing to help Cass escape from Apollo and get away from Phobos and Deimos. Unfortunately, Cass does not get out of the torture they have planned for her. I might be a little sadistic in that I wanted to experience more of her torture first hand rather than gloss over some parts of it.

With the help of Demeter, her mates arrive to save her. They are obviously enraged when they see the state Cass is in and Deimos pays the price for his and Phobos' actions.

Cass and her mates go to Alaric's home so she can recover. But Cass has to find the Rabbit Hole so she can find the scroll that tells her how to defeat the Olympian gods. While in the Rabbit Hole, she finds out that her future has two paths- one where she destroys the world and every universe she finds, or a future where she defeats the gods but then sacrifices herself. She decides she won't become a monster and will sacrifice herself, but doesn't tell her mates. She enjoys some s€xy time with them with what little time she has left. The scene with her and the twins! I would love to be the filling in that sandwich!

After they decifer the scrolls, Cass and her men seek out Hephaestus to forge a god killing sword. However, before the sword can be completed Hades, Cass' Father, shows up and kidnaps both her friend Amber and her mate Reys. The last few paragraphs pf the book have Cass and her remaining mates returning to Alaric's realm where she totally loses her sh!t and turns into a dragon. With that, we are left to find out how Cass saves her mate and friend while defeating the gods and not losing herself to her monster.

This series really brings everything together! A little Greek mythology history, a little action packed fighting, some unexpected enemies and a lot of love! Meg Xuemei X continues this series with so much going on, it's important to pay attention. We pick up where book 2 left off, and get a huge surprise with Noah! People are not always who they appear to be, so Cass is in a predicament that she is not sure she can get out of. She keeps her snarky attitude, almost careless at times, but that is what has become endearing to me about her. No matter the circumstance, she keeps the energy high. Her four men are always looking out for her, and the steam factor is extremely high! It has come to the point where decisions have to be made and Cass has seen what she needs to do. The question now is can it all be done? We won't know until the concluding story! I enjoyed this book with Hades, Apollo, Ares and Demeter, each having a part that helps mold the finale. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

What can I say about Victoria Mei? I don't think I would have made it this far without her narration! She is keeping it so animated with her amazing voices, I can't help but keep up with all the plot twists. Every character, it's own voice from book to book is a constant which I love. It makes the story flow easily for me and makes it very visual. It's a pleasure to listen to her.

Wow this series is seriously amazing. A Court of Ice and Wind, book 3 in the series, is definitely a tougher one to read. Cass is in the hands of some evil gods, but no matter the threats or torture, she doesn't give up hope that she will be reunited with her mates.

This book gives us a deeper look at Cass herself as we get to know more of her origins and her her abilities. She is more than anyone imagined which she proves to the gods who thought they could contain her. Cass is an extremely tough and adaptive character. She refuses to be caged again and will fight anything and anyone who stands between her and her freedom with her mates.

Cass is ready to be the weapon everyone needs her to be, she is ready to do whatever it takes to destroy the gods who have targeted her. But not all the gods appear to be the monsters she has experienced. With enemies everywhere and a slowly growing number of allies, Cass is preparing for war and it's coming quick.

A Court of Ice and Wind is an amazing story in this fantastic series. This author writes dark and gritty fantasy but manages to weave in amazing bits of humor and romance that keep me coming back for more. Book 4 cannot come soon enough!

Cass held her own against Apollo and Ares during her kidnapping and even taught them a few things. She made some new allies and put down two who thought they could actually break her, with the help of her mates. When things were looking dire, Cass was finally able to unlock the genetic mystery locked inside and accepted the power of her bloodline. I laughed at Cass's antics in the shifter realm when she felt she was being insulted and disrespected. I loved how Priestess Irena tried to show her grandson the error of his ways and not get all the shifters killed because of his idiocy. Hell hath no fury like Cass when she encountered daddy dearest and he took something precious to her. He unleashed her beast and the world will burn.

AWESOME

Cass has to be punished for demolishing part of the academy and Nate , one of the council members who had befriended Cass wants her to run. Running with a bomb in her hands while remaining at the same speed OR, it explodes. Some of the council members voted against this punishment but the majority won. Cass doesn't trust, Nate, even though he was going to give her some tea and cakes plus Nate is a peeping Tom while having sexy time in the woods with one of her mates. Cakes or no cakes, Cass soon finds out that Nate isn't who he claims to be.
Cass has been born the perfect weapon to kill the gods. She finds out more about her heritage and hasn't tapped in to all her powers. Amber, her best friend and her personal seer, though it freaks Cass out every time, Amber , has a vision definitely becomes a very important friend to all Cass and mates...

I so enjoy watching Cass come into her own and learn to understand the extent of her powers. She has really grown to love those mates of hers and won't let anyone or anything keep her from them.

Cass is beginning to understand her place in the world and her choices are not easy. The only thing easy for her is to know her mates love her and want to keep her safe. I love how close they are now and how they give her just what she needs .

The author really mixes up the romance and action and humor into a great blend of storytelling that leaves you satisfied but still wanting more. Kind of like Cass and her love of cake.

I highly encourage you to read the series.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.
