Wabi Sabi caught my eye as the type of book I normally like to read with a bit of a twist. The emphasis of the blurb is put on the strange postcards turning up to our protagonist’s door and a creepy song causing him to trek to Japan to find the source – it seemed to me like it was going to be your typical thriller/horror/mystery with a cultural twist.

Gelukkig had ik niet gezien dat het een vertaling uit een vertaling is ( vanuit het Engels terwijl Miralles in het Spaans schrijft), anders had ik dit boek niet gelezen. Ik heb Wabi Sabi impulsief gekocht op oudjaarsdag en ik vond het passend dat het verhaal van Samuel op dezelfde dag begon.
Het boek is heel vlot geschreven.
Het verhaal is onderhoudend en grappig!

With a little bit of mystery this book really has a sense of self discovery, the culture of Japan is captured nicely. The characters are fleshed out enough to build upon the novel more, but overall the search to discover what Wabi-Sabi is, is woven cleverly with Sam's identity crisis and rediscovery of what he wants from life. Имам влечение към Япония и японската култура, но много рядко ме очароват книгите за Япония. А може би е част от философията ми. Тази книга не беше нито за любов, нито за вдъхновение, нито пък за някакво кой знае какво прозрение. Не успя да ме грабне, но пък се четеше доста леко и бързо.

3.5 Приятна книга, продължение на "Любов с малки букви". Направих едно доста интересно пътуване до Япония. Припомних си малки, но важни неща.

Kadangi esu žmogus nesivadovaujantis standartais, tai ir knygas mėgstu skaityti ne iš eilės, taip leisdama sau eksperimentuoti pačiai su savimi. I realize the kind of impression this book was meant to leave but I didn’t appreciate it for two reasons. The first is that the idea of romanticizing mid-life crises inspired journeys to far off lands where the protagonist finds a mysterious woman whose sole purpose throughout his stay is to show him a night of passion and give him some insights where his existential angst is concerned is just not my cup of tea. Wabi-Sabi follows on from Love in Small Letters, but can still be read as a stand alone (although I'm glad I read Love in Small Letters first and think reading this book gives more character insights)
Can see what this was trying to do but it didn't really pull it off. Maybe because it's so short it just felt a bit shallow. The reference to Murakami wasn't needed, it's obvious the author is inspired by and was aiming for that scene. Didn't come close though.

Esta novela es la continuación de "Amor en minúscula" y me ha gustado mucho menos que esta, que en mi opinión, no necesitaba para nada una segunda parte.
La primera mitad de "Wabi-Sabi" no está mal, es entretenida y está bien reencontrarse de nuevo con personajes ya conocidos. Sin embargo, toda la parte de Japón no me ha gustado mucho, en muchos momentos parece más un libro de auto-ayuda (los odio), que una novela y lo que cuenta resulta poco interesante.

This was a short and very sweet but ultimately inconsequential read about a man's trip to Japan in search of the meaning of wabi-sabi, a concept my partner is obsessed with. After the initial mystery of the postcards was resolved, it turned very quickly into a Japanese travelogue/romance with a few oddball characters thrown in and a very neat and underdeveloped ending. I knew nothing about this book or author when I picked it up randomly at the library. I had zero expectations. I was pleased to discover it was an easy read: sweet but not saccharine, a little quirky, a lovely summer evening stroll-like pace. There is a lovely nostalgic quality to this. It's something that I enjoyed very much as a breakfast book, a gentle way to tickle the brain before getting on with the drama of the day. I suspect it will be something I will want to read again every few years.
Knyga prašosi būti perskaityta ne tik dėl įdomaus ir išskirtinio pavadinimo, viršelio bet ir mažo puslapių kiekio. Idėja, iš tiesų, yra labai išskirtinė, sužadinanti smalsumą jau pirmuose puslapiuose, tačiau kiek nuvilianti pabaigoje... Mano asmenine nuomone, siužeto vingiai galėjo būti ne tokie nuspėjami. Drawn in by the cover, I found this to be an easy to read and enjoyable book that follows Samuel as he goes through a tough time in his life and tries to rediscover himself and find happiness in the smallest things.
The mystery of the postcards he receives lures him to spend time in Japan and I found this time fascinating and would have loved more about the Japanese landscape, people and their outlook on life.

Perskaičiau ir nesupratau, kodėl skaičiau :) Gal vis tikėjaus, kad jau kitame puslapyje tikrai atrasiu kokį perliuką. Deja. Toks įspūdis, kad autorius pakylėtas pirmosios knygos sėkmės, iš inercijos parašė ir antrą knygą. Tik tiek, kad pirmoji kokius 10 kartų geresnė...
