Fall in the Midwest brings the colors of changing leaves, pumpkin spice and apples. Twin sisters Georgie and Aleta are eager to pick some apples at an orchard. Then the fun turns to horror when a body is discovered hanging in the barn. Unfortunately this is no Halloween trick and the orchard owners have just lost their soon-to-be son-in-law. When Georgie’s ex-husband Stan shows up to investigate, she’s certain it must be murder. She’s determined to solve the mystery, show up the clingy crime scene photographer who is all over Stan and show Stan what he’s missing.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. First, thank you Sandi Scott for the opportunity. Now, let me explain why I feel compelled to give this story such a low rating. I absolutely, positively, can NOT stand the “men will be men” attitude presented in this novel. I know Georgie and Aleta are older women and many older people believe this but please, take a look at the #MeToo movement and read some of the stories. This attitude has no place in 2018. In historical fiction or a book written decades ago I may have let it slide but not now, not at all. Georgie dressing provocatively to turn on Stan is one thing but he CAN indeed help noticing her outfit or undressing her with his eyes. There’s also a similar sentiment expressed by another character at the end of the novel. It wasn’t THEIR fault. This echoes the Adam and Eve myth that has for too long degraded women.
I really wish the views expressed by the characters were not so outdated because I could have easily given this book 4-5 stars. I liked the country orchard setting, familiar to me from New England autumns. I love Betty’s Bed and Breakfast. That was so quirky and unexpected, it’s worth a full 5 stars for unique cozy mystery setting. Obviously I don’t care for Georgie and Aleta’s outdated opinions. I also don’t care for their teasing and bickering. Georgie is crazy. Aleta is more practical. Stan seems like a nice man and doesn’t deserve Georgie’s rage. Just let it go! You’ve moved on, he’s moved on. It makes Georgie seem petty and immature. She clearly loves Stan but she doesn’t want to be with him, yet she can’t let him be with anyone else either. Why not? She has someone else.
The new characters here include Maggie, an artist and crime scene photographer. I didn’t like her for the same reasons Aleta didn’t. She seems like a drama queen. I didn’t like her confrontation with Georgie. If I were Aleta, I would have called my daughter and had her Google this Maggie person. I also would have Googled Paula. She’s several apples short of a full bushel. I didn’t care for her snippy attitude. Xabat and Charlotte, the owners of the orchard, could not be more different. I liked one of them but not the other. The ending was a little too quick without a full reveal to know exactly what type of person the victim was but they didn’t deserve to die.
I won’t be reading any more books in this series even if offered. There’s not enough character growth, no pets in this one and decided old-fashioned philosophy.

Fall is in the air and the sisters are heading to an orchard to pick apples and talk about what to wear for Halloween.
While at the orchard a body is found and it seems to be suicide.
Georgie also finds out that her ex Stan is dating. What are Georgie’s feeling about this news?
Once again Georgie and Aleta try to solve what appears to be a crime and not suicide.
Another fun read in this mystery series that will keep you guessing, and always has me laughing as I read.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Opinions are my own.

“Murder in the Apple Orchard” is another fun, quirky, cozy mystery from Sandi Scott. The story stars Georgie and Aleta, the 60 something twin sisters who keep stumbling across bodies in this series. The sisters' bickering would make an interesting story so the murder mystery is just an added plus. There is always a plethora of suspects to keep us entertained. So grab your favorite beverage and curl up with this latest offering.

Georgie and Aleta Kaye are heading to Apple Harvest Orchard for Halloween. They are also looking forward to picking apples for baking. Georgie loves dressing up for Halloween, but Aleta not so much. After filling three baskets with apples, Georgie and Aleta decide to pay for their baskets, then do some exploring of the area.
As they approach the general store, they hear a commotion coming from the area of a barn. Looking closer, they realize there is a body hanging from the top of the barn. The body is that of Tony Beaumont. Tony was engaged to marry Victoria Stule, the daughter of the orchard owners. Georgie is surprised when her ex-husband, Stan, shows up with a new police photographer who is practically hanging all over him. While talking to some of the workers at the orchard, Georgie is getting two totally different pictures of Tony. Some say he has a very bad temper and others say he is very likable.
What is the truth about Tony? Why was he killed? Or was it suicide? Can Georgie figure out the truth?
Sandi Scott has a wonderful way of painting scenes to make you feel like you are right their seeing everything first hand with the characters. I especially like the covers of the Pet Portraits series, which feature renditions of actual reader's pets.

Georgie and Aleta are going apple picking at an orchard. I love the apple orchard as a setting for a mystery; I feel that the orchard added to the mystery with the corn maze and rows of trees. I also really enjoyed the setting of the Bed and Breakfast, I would love to stay at an inn like this one. Georgie and Aleta are still spunky characters, although, Stan was a little subdued this book. Stan finally seems to be moving on with his life and giving Georgie her space. I feel because of this he is not as jovial around Georgie. I thought it was funny that Georgie was a little jealous of Stan’s new friend since she has been so adamant that he should move on.
I was given an ARC of this book in hopes I would give a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.

I would like to say that MURDER IN THE APPLE ORCHARD was a good cozy mystery. For all who love a good who Dunia mystery this should be your next book. The characters are well written and the story was a little funny but still a good mystery. If you like MURDER SHE WROTE you will love Sandi Scott's new MURDER IN THE APPLE ORCHARD.

Murder in the Apple Orchard (Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery, #9) by Sandi Scott
You can almost smell the apples and pumpkin spice!
Fall has come to the area and the Kaye sisters, Georgie and Aleta, make a trip to an apple-picking farm. As select apples and chat about Halloween costume ideas, the body of a young man is discovered hanging in the barn. He is Tony Beaumont, the fiancé of Veronica Slute, the daughter of the owner of the farm, Xabat Slute. Although it appears a suicide, Georgie’s ex-husband, Detective Stan Toon of the Chicago Police Department is requested by the small local department to help in the proper investigation of the death. But Georgie notices some suspicious marks on the body and is convinced Tony was murdered. That and Maggie Hoffentop, a new crime scene photographer that is being a little too possessive of Stan’s attention keep the sisters on the hand to keep an eye on things.
“Murder in the Apple Orchard” is another cute and cozy mystery in the “Pet Portraits Mystery” series by Sandi Scott. As with all the books in the series, the dialogue is snappy and the characters sassy and fun. The mysteries will not strain your brain, just entertain. I recommend this book and this series to the cozy mystery lover and those that appreciate an amateur sleuth of a more mature age and outlook.

What started as a typical day for Georgie and Aleta during their visit to the Apple Harvest Orchard turned into another murder. The twins decided to enjoy the weather and go pick apples. As they got near the barn on the property they noticed a crowd gathered in the barn. Inside there was a young man hanging from the rafters from an apparent suicide. After the young man, Tony Beaumont, was removed from the rafters Georgie became curious and started asking questions. Soon, her ex-husband, Stan Toon, the local detective arrived along with Maggie Hofentop, a crime scene photographer. Georgie had a chance to view the body before the ambulance took him away and noticed things around neck and wrists that were not typical of a suicide.
So they could investigate further they decided to stay at Betty's Bed and Breakfast near the orchard. They were able to ask questions of the owner of the orchard, Xabat and Charlotte Slute. Their daughter, Veronica, was Tony's fiancee. They also talked with Paula Hemmingsworth, the property supervisor; Loretta Mae Sinclair, the maid at Betty's B & B; and Marvin Singer, a concession worker at the orchard who had been a client of Aleta's.
This is also the first time you actually see Georgie green with jealousy over the closeness of Stan and Maggie.
The story keeps you guessing as to who could have killed this young man. The Pet Portrait Series always has a little humor, mystery and romance included. A must read for cozy mystery readers. I received and advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.

Another fun read in the Pet Portrait Mystery Series! This entire series will keep you not only guessing with the whodunits, but will keep you laughing all the way through the book. The protagonists in the series, twins Georgie and Aleta two seniors can't help but get themselves involved in solving murder mysteries. In this book, the sisters go apple picking when there is what appears to everyone as a suicide. However, Georgie finds something the police had missed which makes her and Aleta suspect foul play. Add to the crazy twists and turns as they try to prove it was murder and who the murderer could be is the side-story of Georgie's ex-husband Stan who up until now wanted to get back together with her. Seems Stan has shown up with a forensic who he is apparently now dating and does not seem to want Georgie anywhere near Stan and shows her distain. Putting all this together, with Georgie and Aleta trying to solve a crime and Georgie's emotional state of seeing Stan for the first time moving on past Georgie has you laughing, cheering and trying to put all the threads together only to run into red-herrings and dead ends! This is a fantastic series with extremely likeable characters that make you crave the next adventure for the sisters! I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Murder in the Apple Orchard by Sandi Scott is the latest the Pet Portraits Cozy Mystery series featuring Georgie and her sister, Aleta, two senior citizen sleuths. Georgie and Aleta live nest door to one another-closeness being a good thing, too close, not so much. It is fall, Halloween not far away. Of course Georgie wants to dress up, Aleta doesn't. They have taken this day to visit a (relatively) local apple orchard and pumpkins farm when right in the middle of the day a dead body is discovered. It appeared he had hung himself, until the situation became clearer. One of the distractions is that Stan, Georgie's ex-husband and police detective, has a girl friend. Now, Georgie is happily divorced and had good reasons, but she is used to having Stan coming around and is not sure she wants to share him.
Georgie, Aleta, and Stan are totally engaging characters, not to be missed. Scott weaves a good mystery with the right amount of twists and turns while interjecting plenty of the main characters' personalities into the mix. Murder in the Apple Orchard is and entertaining cozy which I recommend highly. There is plenty in this book to engender chuckles, as well as curiosity.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The sixty-something super twins are back in action.
Georgie and Aleta plan to pick apples, enjoy a corn maze and yummy
treats, and of course adventure and murderous mayhem pop up. More
than one unhappy surprise appears too.
Not only do they meet the apparent new amor of the orchard owner - and
she really seems a bit off her rocker. When ex-husband Stan shows up
at the homicide with a photographer in tow, it turns out they have
been dating. Awkward.
Not only is the new photog dating Stan, but she seems intent on
starting an issue between herself Georgies, cat fight wise. What a
wacko. Stan seems a bit put off, but if Georgie refuses to date him,
what's a guy to do?
Georgie and Aleta have super sister powers, and awesome deductive
reasoning to help them solve the mystery - and survive the scrapes
they always seem to get into along the way.
Healing their hearts might be a bit harder - and longer in the doing.
I enjoyed reading and advance copy of the story, as well as reading it
on KU - and my honest opinion is that I still find the Kaye sisters
funny and delightful!

Murder at the apple orchard book review:
Get ready for lots of apples, some shenanigans, pumpkin pie, a corn maze and murderous adventure!
Aleta and Georgie are off to the apple orchard! Only they did not expect to find a murdered body that resembled a suicide by hanging...
Our intrepid duo is close on the heels of figuring out what’s going on at the apple orchard! It does involve some spicy pumpkin treats, picking apples and getting lost in a corn maze!
I love these twins! They have the best relationship and dynamics. Quite a few times I was laughing out loud over the tricks Georgie would play on Aleta!
And we can’t forget Stan, Georgie‘s ex-husband. He enters the scene of the crime attached to Maggie the photographer. Georgie has some things to figure out about Stan. I don’t like to give away spoilers. Rest assured this is a good cozy mystery with interesting characters and relationships as well as a murder to figure out!
Enjoy!! And don’t forget the pumpkin pie!

Georgie and Aleta are 'discussing' what they are going to dress up as on Halloween while on the way to the Apple Orchard. Aleta doesn't want to dress up at all....says they are too old for such nonsense. They get to the orchard, and decide what apples they are going to pick when they hear a scream! There is a real body hanging from the rafters in the barn!!!! At first it looks like it might be a suicide, but Georgie's keen eyes sees things on the body before the police gets there that tells her differently. Then Stan shows up and he isn't alone. He has a new photographer and she isn't just that.....they are dating! This throws Georgie off her game a bit. She isn't sure what she thinks of this, only knows she really doesn't care for it. Can Georgie get her head on straight and convince Stan that this was murder? You will have to read the book to find the answers. As always, these two ladies are a hoot to read and sometimes surprise themselves! I voluntarily reviewed a free ARC of this book.

Georgie and Aleta drive out to Apple Harvest Orchard to enjoy the day of apple picking and enjoying some tasty treats. What was supposed to be a day of fun turns into yet another mystery when the body is found hanging from a rafter. Unfortunately, it isn’t a prop as part of the Halloween decorations, so the sisters find themselves involved in yet another murder mystery. Georgie can’t wait to solve the mystery, but soon comes face to face with her ex-husband and his new girlfriend the crime scene photographer. Can we say “awkward”?!
As with previous books in this series, you get many laugh out loud moments including the girls staying at a medieval B&B. The dynamics between the sisters and even between Georgie and her ex-husband Stan is fantastic. Even though she says she is fine with Stan’s new girlfriend and she tries to be the bigger person, you still feel her touch of jealousy and tad of spitefulness. This all makes for a great cozy mystery filled with madcap adventure, humor, and lots of potential suspects.

Another enjoyable outing with Georgie and Aleta, the sixty-something twins, this time they come across an apparent suicide when they visit and orchard to pick apples for their baking. Needless to say they get involved in the investigation, especially when Georgie's ex husband Stan turns up with his crime scene photographer, who seems to think that things should develop between herself and Stan, and is very negative towards Georgie (Sorry, dreadful pun I know, but I couldn't resist).
Throw in a local B&B which is themed on a medieval castle, Georgie's phobia about spiders and there is a recipe for much mayhem. Do the twins manage to solve the mystery? Does Stan come to his senses about the photographer? You'll just have to read the book to find out.
As always in this series, this is a thoroughly enjoyable read and although it is part of a series it works really well as a standalone.

Murder at the Apple orchard.
Georgie and Aleta decide to take a drive out to the country to pick apples. Sure enough with the sisters around it doesn’t take long for a murder to take place. The sisters investigate. The only wrench in their plans is when they discover Stan, Georgie’s ex has started dating! Georgie has a hard time dealing with this especially while trying to solve the crime! This was another great book in the series! I love the complexity of the characters. The new level of depth the characters is also exciting. I really love this book and this series! It has everything you could want in a book, mystery, adventure, humor, excitement! I highly recommend this book and this series!

I don't care how long my TBR list is. As soon as Sandi Scott comes out with another "Pet Portraits" book, it has to be read next. The twins always make me laugh out loud especially when one makes the other the victim of a made-up illness as payback for a previous smackdown. This time Georgie gets to feel a little of the jealousness Stan usually feels when he shows up with a nasty little thing on his arm. Investigating the "Murder in the Apple Orchard" becomes a little bit more of a problem when her mind is split between the murder and Stan. As always, enjoyment for the reader abounds. I certainly hope this series never ends. I've become invested with these "girls" and wish I was along for the real ride.

A fun edition to this cozy mystery series. The fall backdrop was beautifully described and I absolutely loved the Medieval themed B and B. Ms. Scott's setting of the scenes is magnificent, I felt as if I was in the library at the b& b, stuck in the corn maze and enjoying a perfect fall day at an Orchard. Although I love the two sisters Georgie and Aleta (their banter is typical of close sisters and cracks me up), too much of the story is based on Georgie's bitterness of her ex-husband's new relationship. Let him go Georgie! I wish more time was spent on the suicide (murder victim). the mystery to me was not much of one. I still recommend pouring yourself a pumpkin spiced latte and settle in for a delightful time in the Apple Orchard.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, just as I have enjoyed all the previous ones in the series. Georgie and her twin sister, Aleta, have gone to a harvest festival at an apple orchard just before Halloween. Their intention was to pick apples to make pies for Halloween. The day was ruined when a body was found hanging from the barn. The police were called and the sisters inserted themselves into the investigation. It wasn't long before it was found to be murder. It was a twisted tale of jealously, greed and violence. To top it all off for Georgie, her ex-husband has aquired himself a new girlfriend - and she also works for the police.

This was a really fun visit with Aleta & Georgie! It's pre-Halloween and they go to an orchard to pick apples. They wind up with a body hanging in the barn that looks like suicide until they poke around some more and find signs of murder. Then Stan enters with a new crime scene photographer that he's seeing. Maggie, the photographer, doesn't care for Georgie and makes sure that Georgie knows it. After poking around the orchard for several days Georgie solves the mystery and goes on to have a wonderful Halloween with her sister.

This is arguably my favorite cozy mystery series! Twin sisters Georgie and Aleta set out once again on an innocent enough trip, this time to a pick-your-own apple orchard. As usual, a murder ensues and Georgie sets out to find the killer, with Aleta following closely on her footsteps. A cast of questionable characters all have a motive for the murder, and the trail leads from one suspect to another. I thought I had it figured out from the get-go, but I was pleasantly wrong. A new twist in Georgie's relationship with ex-husband Stan adds to the entertainment. Fun as always!

I am in love with this series. Sandi Scott has me laughing out loud with the shenanigans the twins get into and the tricks they play on each other. Georgie and Aleta plan to pick apples and of course find a body. I love that Sandi Scott mixed it up with Stan, Georgie's ex-husband. Sandi adds a new character in the crime scene photographer. I can't wait to see how this is all going to play out in the next few books. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
November 24, 2018
Georgie and Aleta are on a trip to their favorite apple orchard. But as luck would have it, a dead body is found on the premises. Georgie is determined to figure out who the killer is, even at the risk of personal peril. A little spice is added to this tale by her ex-husband, Stan, and his crime scene photographer. The crime scene photographer seems to have focused more on Stan than the crime scene. Even though Georgie wants to think she has no feelings for Stan, she doesn't like the new girl hanging on Stan.

In this one Georgie and Aleta are off to a nearby apple orchard to get apples to bake with. During the time they are there, the soon to be son in law of the owner is found hanging from the barn. Naturally Georgie gets involved. While trying to interview the wife of the owner, they run into his presumed mistress and things get complicated. Georgie also meets the police photographer that Stan is dating. This person takes an instant dislike to Georgie and tries to make things bad between the two of them.

Halloween Cozy Mystery
This is a fun episode of the Pets Portraits series. The backdrop is an apple orchard at Halloween. There is pumpkin everything, apple everything, a corn maze, and a murder. This episode has a great plot, lots of interesting characters and a plot that won't quit. This episode could stand alone, but it's better when you get the entire back story. I received this ARC book for free and this is my honest review.

Georgie and Aleta are enjoying a fall break. There is never a dull moment with these twins. I love the series for great characters and enjoyable plots. Georgie reminds me of Auntie Mame and Aleta is her exasperated straight man. I want to be Georgie but I am probably more like Aleta. When I read about their antics I get to choose Georgie. Read about fun in the apple orchard and relax a little today.

The twins are at it again, or should I say Georgie is.. Never a dull moment when Georgie is out and about. In this book, they are off to the Orchards to picks some apples and while there, of course, there is a murder and Georgie has to find the culprit. Now I was having a really hard time figuring this one out. It really kept me on my toes while keeping me entertained. Sandi has done it again with this awesome book.

Georgie and Aleta take a trip to the Apple Harvest festival and get involved in another murder mystery. Then Stan, Georgie's ex shows up with a new love interest. Can Georgie overcome her jealousy and why doesn't it sit well with either of the twins. Can they discover the motive behind the killing and find the killer. Join the twins in their hunt to bring the killer to justice, it's a fun read.

In this book of the Pet Portraits series, Georgie and Aleta go to a nearby Farmer's Market. It turns out that what everyone thought was a gruesome Halloween decoration was actually a body hanging in the barn.
Can Georgie and Aleta help Stan and the local sheriff solve this mystery?
This book is a little darker than the previous ones, but still a very enjoyable read.
Wonderful locations with the apple orchard, corn maze, and local Medieval-themed B & B.

Georgie and Aleta are at it again!
The twins have a habit of stumbling upon bodies, and this time is no different. Was it really suicide? All they were trying to do was pick some apples! And what is Stan thinking?? This latest addition to the series does not disappoint! The twins stay at a B&B that sounds like so much fun! But will they ever get their apples?
