This is the second update to the 2002 book, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Weight Loss.

A third update will be released in Jan. 2010, titled, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Glycemic Index Weight Loss, 2nd Ed.

Authors of all books: Lucy Beale & Joan Clark (see previous book reviews in this thread for their impressive credentials)

An excellent reference on healthy weight loss. More of the same clear, concise info as in the two previous books.

Glycemic Index is the term for the scientific measurement of how a person's blood sugar levels change while eating various types of carbs. The GI's ranking system is only for carbs, not proteins or fats.

Basically, the slower a food's energy is released, the better. Complex carbs (veggies, whole grains, fruits) are far better than foods containing sugar, processed foods, or refined grains.

The GI Index Weight Loss is *not* a diet program.

I couldn't wait for the newest edition coming out in Jan. 2010 -- I had to get my hands on this second update to the original so I didn't miss one word in this series of books that has been so extremely helpful to me.

This book was good in explaining the basic mechanics of and importance of the glycemic index not only in weight loss, but in the management of blood sugar levels. I enjoyed the simple language used. I felt, however, some claims made are not adequately substantiated and based on too few research results. The whole premise of the glycemic index, however, I think is valid. It is a must before reading anything else on the subject.

Has some helpful information but I wonder if the author's not sponsored by the people at Emergen-C because this was practically an infomercial for it in certain parts. I was bothered a little bit by the (inappropriate?) self-helpy advice, e.g. meditation and prayer to relieve stress. Umm, as an atheist, I will pass, thanks.

Excellent tool for managing type II diabetes. Contains both physiological explanation of the issue and practical tips for those of us who love carbs.
