Contrary to others in my book club, I think, I really loved this book. At first I didn't but then I found out I was reading it the wrong way. This book was not meant to be read one story after another in succession. It was meant to be read one day at a time.
This is the story of a Dog and her owner. The Dog's name is Penny. The Owner? The Author, Patsy Swendson. Patsy gives us a glimpse of the lives of those in hospitals with serious conditions. Penny is a trained Theraputic Dog whose job it is to go into these Hospitals and just give love and help the afflicted. In my opinion this is one hell of a Dog. Think about how you become when everyone dumps their problems on you. Here is Penny, taking it all in. Penny is also a cancer survivor which makes these stories even more powerful. What this book is about, is a set of stories of how Penny has touched the lives of so many and in her own way helped the injured recouperate.
About the only thing I did not like about the book is that the tragedy in these peoples lives were not really outlined. You know they were sick but I guess you had to really be there to see the nature of their affliction. I think that if the author could have described their affliction better, it would have made Penny's healing powers that much more powerful. But, in my opinion, this is minor by comparison.
