An emotional read about the life, fears, and love during the Korean War! Aubrey Wynne begins each chapter with a thought provoking quote. As a Midwesterner, who often visited Chicago in the 1950s, this romance includes well-researched historical details about Chicago, the era, and journalism. With today's talk shows, I miss journalists like a man from the Midwest Edward R. Murrow and his no nonsense straight from the hip reporting. Penny pinching and waste not, want not was a way of life, as was ...more

For The Love Of Laura Beth is a beautifully written historical, based on real people and places. I loved Laura Beth Walters from the start, as I enjoyed her strength, compassion, and courage. Joe McCall was an ambitious and hard working young man who was caught in the Korean War draft. The two captured the turmoil and struggles of how it was for their time in history. Warmth, compassion, heartache, faithfulness and more are emotions you will experience as you read this. I was completely immersed ...more

For the love of Laura Beth is an emotional read. It takes place in the past, during war, and these two go through a lot during the book, not just the struggles of war. Through it all, their love for one another is strong and sturdy. It was beautiful and sometimes sad. I cried and my heart broke for them. It ends with a well earned happy ever after.

For the Love of Laura Beth #4 - I absolutely love Ms. Wynne's books and this is my favorite of the ones I have read. Life before, during and after the Korean War, and the lives of the families of the bride and groom living and suffering through this period of time. The storylines are interesting, while the characters just tug at your heart and you want to know what happens next. There is sadness, joy and a gamut of emotions that keep you from putting the book down. The vivid descriptions let you ...more

For the Love of Laura Beth is the fourth book in Aubrey Wynne’s Chicago Christmas series. It is a great story that takes place in the shadows of Korean war. The writer has taken this era and meticulously brought into life – I can close my eyes and picture the people and places she is describing. You don’t have to read the other stories in the series as this is a standalone story taking place in Midwest (like the other Chicago Christmas stories).

I am in awe of Aubrey Wynne's writing, and this story really struck a nerve with me. It's full of true life turmoil and a love so strong, it transcends time. Laura Beth and Joe have been in love forever. Looking forward to their impending marriage, obstacles continue to obstruct their path to happiness. Now drafted into the Korean War, the two decide to get married before Joe's deployment, and Laura Beth is now having their first child. Their love is so strong, and with the return of Joe, they b ...more

For the Love of Laura Beth (A Chicago Christmas Book 4) by Aubrey Wynne was a sweet quick read, about the growing pains of marriage and learning how to dig down deep, to find that strength needed, to overcome every hardship that was tossed their way.

Not my first read by this author so I knew going in, that I was in for a well crafted read. I was not disappointed. A fast pace tale of love, hardship and family, I was taken on a sweet journey that not only pulled at those dreaded heartstrings, it

This is a story about the perils of war and life in general. The sweet heartbreaking reality of war and the sweet heartbreaking reality of life. For the Love of Laura Beth is a story about effects of war on the young men and their families in the 1950’s, which is still pretty relevant to today. It’s also about family. Important then. Important now. This is a heartbreaking story about love and loss; hope and survival. This story is too real.

For the Love of Laura Beth is the fourth book in A Chicago Christmas Series by Aubrey Wynne. This is a wonderful, moving historical romance, set in and around the Korean War. This “Christmas story’ is woven around friendship, family bonds, sacrifice, resilience, strength, determination, overcoming obstacles, love, and drama.
I loved the way each chapter starts with an inspirational quote, as this added to the whole ‘feel’ of the story.

Wow. Life had to be hard in the days when people were drafted and there was no electronic devices. It would take days, weeks, and sometimes months for letters to get to their destination, and by then the news was old news. The author’s writing seemed very genuine and true to the core.

I truly believe that when you find true love, you would do anything for it. Love is exactly what this story is about – patience, strength, endurances, and support. Too many people give up with the first storm comes

This book takes the reader back in time to the moment when Joey McCall knew for the first time, that he was looking at the love of his life. Laura knew she loved him when she was in the first grade. He didn't catch on until he was a senior in high school and saw a guy from his class buying her a soda, and that's when everything changed.

This is a wonderful, touching story about love and the challenges and situations that our complicate lives. The reader is given a front-row seat into the lives

This was a sweet story taking place during the Korean War. As per the author's usual, she took a real life couple and expanded on their story. Joey and Laura Beth are a relatable couple with very real challenges. I originally read the story when it was published as Love's Challenge. I was hoping more would be added (specifically during the three year gap Joey was at school). The scene that was added was a little risque compared to the sweetness and Christian references through the rest of the bo ...more

This was a fabulous historical novella with the richness of a full-length story. The author did a fantastic job of creating developed characters and a complex plot within a shorter word count. It’s definitely one of the better novellas I’ve read in some time. As per usual in a shorter story, it moves quickly, but without sacrificing any substance. It’s not often that I read 20th century historical fiction with a 1950’s timeline and I really enjoyed that detail along with its references to

A beautifully written story about perseverance and love. Joe and Laura Beth McCall have a love that can survive the ages. Or can it? Facing many challenges alone and together they have made it through but the biggest one is yet to come. Life is a challenge and sometimes so is love. Don't miss their beautiful and compelling story about life, and love's challenge. Also, don't miss Aubrey's author's note at the end of the story, a sweet telling of her inspiration for this story.

I am so glad that I read this story even though I felt a little hesitant about reading a book that involves wartime. Even though this was a relatively short book in terms of the number of pages, there is so much content in terms of the lives of the characters. I found myself both laughing and crying at various times while reading and could not put the book down. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more of her books.
