It's a new year at Brooklyn Heights High School and everyone is in love. Adora, Liza and Eli - finally, truly, wildly, madly in love.
That is, until the weather turns. The new English Literature teacher seems to be hitting on Adora's boyfriend. What's a girl to do? Well, finding comfort in Liza's hot older brother is a start - until Liza finds out, of course. Meanwhile Liza's own affair of the heart gets derailed by family pressure. And Eli suspects that her boyfriend's ego may be just a tad bigger than her affection can stand.
What started off as a winter wonderland of love is turning into a winter catastrophe!
Until an unexpected trip to someplace warm reminds Adora and her best friends of what is really, truly and wildly important...
She's written twenty books (e.g., The Accidental Virgin and The Girlfriend Curse), and contributed to dozens of publications including the New York Times, Self, Allure, Glamour, Parenting and Good Housekeeping. Her memoir, Thin Is the New Happy, about overcoming bad body image after 30 years of dieting and self-loathing, was recently described as "Rueful, zestful and surprisingly funny," by the New York Times.
This is a new contender for Worst Book I Ever Read. Actually, after the first 18 pages, I knew I could not finish this book. The main character, Adora, is a super whiny and selfish teen who is horrified by her parents who are writing a sex manual and are very open about it at home. Adora has an annoying boyfriend whom she hasn't had sex with yet but she's jealous of his ex-girlfriend who has. Just her comments/attitudes annoyed me enough that I skipped ahead to see her setting up her teacher (whom she is jealous of for being..gasp..hot) by reporting her to the principla as..gasp..a Republican! (c'mon, liberals, give it up already). the teacher then makes an anti-Jewish remark which is laughable since most republicans worship Jews and Israel. The book is really used as a left wing political platform for brainwashing teens..another character is evil because he doesn't approve of his soon to be stepdaughter dating a black guy, so he is ridiculed by Adora throughout, until he gets what he deserves by getting dumped. He is also repeatedly referred to as 'the Whitest Man in America" as if being white is an insult and called cheap because he wouldn't allow the woman who dumped him to keep his money afterwards for a wedding that didn't occur. Gives you an idea of the left's values. This book belongs in the nearest recycling bin. I can certainly understand why this author has had to turn to ghostwriting for Snooki...Snooki may be the only person in the world who is a worse writer.
This sequel to FRINGE GIRL didn't quite live up to the very high expectations set by the brilliant original, but it sure came close.
As the new year begins, everyone is in love. Dora and Noel. Liza and Stanley. Eli and Eric. Joya and Ben. Even Mr. and Mrs. Benet are doing unmentionable things in their bedroom (and writing a book about it)!
Of course, life is no fairy tale, and none of those relationships remain as blissfully perfect as they seem to be at first. Rifts are caused by an older brother, an old friend, a racist soon-to-be stepfather, and a hot young teacher with a hidden agenda and dozens of adoring followers.
Adora, her friends, and her family will work it all out in the end, though...Right?
FRINGE GIRL IN LOVE is just as funny, fresh and entertaining as the first book, but it lacked something that FRINGE GIRL had, that made FRINGE GIRL really stand out. FRINGE GIRL was about Adora's social revolution in her school. That was original, and wove the whole story together wonderfully. This sequel, however, lacks a thread to bind it all together: it's just the continuation of the lives of those characters involved.
Still, though, it's a fantastic book. It's well-written and full of great characters, and I hope to see more about Adora Benet in the future!
It was a good book, In about the middle there was a lot of drama and i had to put it down and be like "Holy crap i would never know what to do in that situation" I loved how sarcastic Dora was,Matt was a sexual jerk and Noel and Dora belong together. :)
