Water Dragons #4

Dragon Betrayal

Rate this book
Dragon shifter series set in the same world as The Bride Hunt series

There are only two problems with Alex Bell, she was born a woman and a gorgeous one at that. Two unforgivable traits. At least, according to her father. She’ll never live up to daddy’s expectations. No matter how hard she tries. She’ll never be ruthless enough. Strong enough, or quick-witted enough.

Good thing she has a couple of tricks up her sleeve. A couple of rabbits in her hat. Okay, maybe not rabbits, but a different kind of animal. One her father has been hunting for years, her family…for generations. Dragons. A royal male and his pregnant, human mate. Her father won’t be able to ignore her when she delivers them to him.

Please note: Although this story has a definite HEA, the couple’s struggles spill over into the next book. Dragon Betrayal ends on a cliffhanger/prelude to the next book. The next story will follow a new love interest. That's all I can say without potential spoilers.

Contains hot alpha males and therefore strong sexual themes/language

Well this was such a delicious twist! Loved the ending!

Action packed, light, funny and Beck was so much alpha! #hotandfoulmoathed

Could not have digged this character more!

Alex is the daughter of one of the founding families. The so-called Slayers. She believes the dragons brainwash and use human women, hence her strong dedication to the founding families case. Then she finds herself on the mercy of Beck. And find out that maybe dragons are not the monsters she believes them to be.
Love/hate relationship always gets to me.
#cannotgetenough

Beck is second in command of the water dragons. Tall, handsome, and a pretty boy- Beck is a dragon who loves to flirt.

He also loathes Alex with everything in him.
That emotion was so well written. I felt it, and Hartnady do very light emotions, so I rarely get that attached to a character, but I felt how he struggled with his emotions towards Alex. And I loved it.
True to Hartnady we get a nice dose of cheesy, yet captivating story, and this was no exception.
Totally worth a read, because #dragonsareawesome

Dragon Betrayal is the exciting fourth installment in the Water Dragons series, which follows The Bride Hunt series. The story revolves around a dragon who meets a dragon slayer and their lives are changed forever. But they as a species don't tend to get along. That's when the fun begins.

While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters must fight to stay alive, but what they discover is even more significant than they ever imagined.

I love the strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles!

The books by Charlene Hartnady are my guilty pleasure, they are fast paced and quick read with plenty of sexy shifters or vampires who fall for unusual women.
Since the plot of the group of human hunters was introduced, here is finally the story of Alex, the “boss” in the second book.
So we get to know who she is really and where she comes from. She was all her life lied about the true motives of the hunters for chasing after the dragons. Doing her best to prove her father she is worth everything , that she could be like the son he never had but she never reached his expectations.
Beck is the epitome of the knight in shining armor with a steamy side, often driven by his pants but always there for a damsel in distress even if she is a hunter.

It was a quick read with plenty of steam and action.
It ends on a Happy For Now scene and the last chapter introduce the next book and series plus I suppose it will bring a conclusion and HEA to Beck and Alex’s story.

So we get Alex's story now. She is the Dragon Hunter we met a couple of books ago. She is a hard as$ with a heart. Now we get to find out why she is the way she is and to see if she can be redeemed.

We also get to see the silver treatments in action with Beck. There is a lot that goes on in this book and does end in an open-ended ending but not between Alex and Beck, so you have to start the next book to get the full-on happy ending.

I enjoyed this story considerably, and it does have a great ending and keeps you going to the next book.

Dragon Slayers successfully captured Beck, a dragon shifter
Alex Bell was daughter to the head of the Dragon Slayer organisation that are currently trying to capture and eradicate every “Dragon Shifter”, Alex had been indoctrinated since birth in the hateful beliefs of her father on what they were, how and what they would do to humans, capturing them to breed so that their existence was enforced.
The attack on the Dragon shifter and his pregnant mate had caught them totally unaware, Tide and his mate Meghan had been with three male dragon shifters, she had injured them all with silver bullets and threatened to kill the pregnant female.
The whole situation went awry and yet when Alex had awoken in a cave with Beck and had been held hostage for several days and yet when the emerged from the cave once again a helicopter had been waiting for them, they had fired on the flying dragon even though she was in his talons and could have been injured even killed.
When they had been taken back to the Slayers stronghold she realised that her father and family were lying and that the dragons were in fact not the main motive, it had been the treasure they were after also the diamond and gold mines this changed everything for Alex, all the lies, all the pain and heartlessness of her father, she would never stand for their true motives, she felt her loyalties changing and the feelings she had for Beck were growing experientially.
Alex knew that she would become the top of the Slayers hit list, her father would do everything he could to capture and then torture her to discover any knowledge she may have acquired. However, Beck knew that their relationship could never take her to their lair, she would do everything they asked to help the Dragons, even answer any questions they asked anything at all that might allow her to assist them. She now realised why her sister Paige had deserted the organisation and she understood that she must have had her own doubts and this was why she had run, now she knew that she had to find her sister or else she would have to live and survive, always looking over her shoulder, her father would kill her…….
This was a wonderful read it was filled with action and also it was filled with a totally different interaction with the Dragon Slayer society….
I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Another great Dragon shifter book to read.

Beck a dragon shifter protecting Tide the dragon prince along with his pregnant mate are sadly cornered by a slayer.  Alexis was prepared to take the prince and his mate back to her compound with plans to get answers to questions they have.  This does not bode well for Beck as he has been injected by her to knock him out since he is part of the protection detail.  The injection had silver in it which is known to kill shifters.  But the dragons have been going through a program to get their systems used to anything silver.
The shoe ends up being on the other foot as Beck manages to wake up.  She in turn becomes the captive.
There is so much action in this book with the dragons and the slayers that we hadn't seen before.  Beck cannot stand Alexis but he is still attracted to her and Alexis has been brainwashed by her father that the dragon's are out to destroy humankind.  You have some humor, becoming aware and hot hot coming together by Beck and Alexis.
Alexis has a lot to learn the truth about the dragons and Beck is one to do it.  How can they have a relationship when the dragons will have nothing to do with her and Beck has been forbidden being with her.  What are their chances.  Hopefully Charlene Hartnady's next book in this series will show what happens and the introduction of someone closely related to Alexis.
A definite book to read.  Get it, Read it and Enjoy it.

I received an ARC for a voluntary and honest review.

I was really ready to hate Alex and not like her at all. And while she will never be my fave I don't dislike her, but I'm not sure I like her yet.

Beck is the same though he started out higher on the non hate scale than she did. He has never been my fave but he did have a moment in Flood's story that made me like him a bit.

This will never be my fave book. For one, I HATE when the majority of the story is the couple fighting. It seams like that is foreplay for some, but not for me. I understand why there was fighting I just did not enjoy it and tried to read through that part fast. And secondly, this in no way has an HEA. The author states at the end we will see more of Beck and Alex in the next story and I can see how that is the case since the female in the next book is Alex's twin, but the author has yet to execute a story that incorporates anyone but the main couple well. She tends to forget that any other characters exist other than her main ones. So if Beck and Alex do get a HEA, it wont be fulfilling like it might have been in their own story.

Now on the Alex's twin and the star of the next story. WTF! Why would you give her the same name as a female you've already written? different spelling yes "Page" vs "Paige" but still, why? It is not like the two Pa(i)ges will ever meet, that would break the author's normal MO. So what else could she be setting up? or will she, like all the other random story threads she starts, let this one dangle in the wind.

I loved it!

Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book four of four in The Water Dragon series.
(Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

There are only two problems with Alex Bell, she was born a woman and a gorgeous one at that. Two unforgivable traits, at least, according to her father, and she’ll never live up to her daddy’s expectations. No matter how hard she tries, she’ll never be ruthless enough, strong enough, or quick-witted enough.

Good thing she has a couple of tricks up her sleeve, a couple of rabbits in her hat, okay, maybe not rabbits, but a different kind of animal. One her father has been hunting for years, her family for generations, dragons, and not just any dragon, a royal male and his pregnant, human mate. Her father won’t be able to ignore her when she delivers them to him. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Please note: Although this story has a definite HEA, the couple’s struggles spill over into the next book. Dragon Betrayal ends on a cliffhanger/prelude to the next book. The next story will follow a new love interest.

Sorry 😐 just what???

On the positive side, I really like her writing style and I’ve read a lot of her books. There are sometimes aspects that make me say what while reading but usually they are minor aspects of the overall story and not something that overshadows her main storyline.
That didn’t happen here. Beck is such an over the top a@@hole that there is no way to redeem him. What can I say about Alex, not much. Could not even kind of like or relate to her character.
At the start Beck is a verbal bully and thinks of woman as things to be used for his pleasure and gotten rid of and by the end of their time in the cave he is a physically and emotionally abusive douche with zero redeeming points to him. Alex starts out naive, whiny 😫 and annoying and by the time they leave the cave she has prostituted herself for no good reason, is still naive, whiny and super annoying.
She starts to redeem them after they escape her fathers mansion but it’s just too little too late. It didn’t help that it ended pretty shortly after that with zero resolution in how Beck and Alex will deal with her Dad and the other dragons who hate her (with some good reasons).
Think and hope Montain and Page will be better. Think this is just something she couldn’t overcome with these characters past storylines.

As the story began, the dragon slayer, Alex Bell, appeared to be vile, heartless, and brutal. Her character appeared to have no conscience about torturing anyone to obtain the information she needed to destroy the dragons. I really hated her character and couldn't believe the damage and terror she inflicted on Beck, Tide, Meghan and Reef. Alex appeared to be evil without a chance of redemption. I was totally shocked by the developments that took place after Alex shot Tide and assaulted Meghan in their hotel. Beck's efforts to save his prince and Meghan was completely unexpected. Later in the book when Beck and Alex were forced into close quarters for an extended time, I still harbored the feeling that Alex was a lost cause and a miserable excuse for a human being. This story had me off balance from the very beginning. I very much enjoyed how the narrative was very effective in portraying the character Alex in one light and then explaining why she appeared to be that type of person. Learning about Alex's life was a real eye opener. It goes to say, one should not judge someone by their first actions. We never know just what's driving a person to behave in a particular manner. GREAT STORY!

Oh, what a ride!

In the 4th book of the Water Dragon series we meet Beck and Alex Bell. In Dragon Betrayal we finally start to see what's going on behind the scenes with the slayers. We also come to find out how Alex is involved and what her connections are to them. Alex and Beck's relationship does not start out on a positive note, but things are not always as they appear. As the story starts to unravel and become clear, we get a much better look at what motivates Alex and all that she's been through. I really don't want to give too much away. This is an action packed read with plenty of adventure, danger and despite it all, plenty of chemistry and attraction. Although there is a lot going on, I didn't find it a stressful read at all. Quite the opposite. Charlene Hartnady has a way of keeping it exciting without letting you hang there and get stressed. Things move along at a good pace and it all comes together nicely. This was a great finale to the Water Dragon Series and a great set up for the next.

Please not: As mentioned in the synopsis, Although this story has a definite HEA, Dragon Betrayal ends on a cliffhanger/prelude to the next book.

I'm giving this book 4 stars instead of 5, only because I usually don't like any sort of cliff hanger. Otherwise it was amazing!

Who knew betrayal was so fun

Dragon Betrayal: Water Dragons Series Book 4

There are only two problems with Alex, not Alexandria, she was born a woman and a gorgeous one at that. Two unforgivable traits. At least, according to her father. She’ll never live up to daddy’s expectations. No matter how hard she tries. She’ll never be ruthless enough. Strong enough, or quick-witted enough.
Beck is a water dragon. He is one of the dragons in town protecting the water prince and his pregnant mate when they are attacked in their hotel. He is able to fight off the attackers and take the woman hostage. And the rest they say is history.
This book like all of CH's books has a cliffhanger and an HEA. The main idea of the book continues to the next book. For some reason, I've read the series out of order. I read EARTH first the other books in this "world" before reading this (water) series. I didn't lose anything doing this. I still enjoyed all the books. I'm following CH and keeping my eyes open for her next release. Going to read her "Lord of Fire (The Dragon Demigods Book 1)" when it comes out in February 2020.

Make sure you have a block of time to read this book, because you will not want to put it down! I could hardly wait to start reading this book, and I was hooked from the first page! I had been wondering when Beck would fall and what his story would be like. And it was even better than I imagined! Alex is a dragon slayer. Beck is a dragon. These two never should have happened, but they made such a great pair! It was a little different than previous books, but it was a fantastic read! Of course dragons hate the slayers, and you can imagine how Beck would act with Alex! There were plenty of trusts and turns throughout the book. And now I want more Beck and Alex! I wasn't ready for the book to end, and I would love to he as r mlre about those two! I have no clue how I'll wait until the next book.
I highly recommend reading this book and all of the previous books! It is definitely not a standalone, and you will need to have read the other books to under and nd what has happened.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.

From enemies to lovers!!

Holy cow Batman was that a hot book! I laughed, and I cried plus got hot and bothered! This was definitely my favorite book in the series.

Character breakdown;

Beck: I love him he was an interesting one when I first met him in the series but the man took me by surprise completely. He also turned me on in a weird sadistic kind of way!

Alex: I loved her! She was also very unexpected but she was an interesting character. I loved her confidence and how easily she took on a challenge. She is the perfect match for Beck!

Favorite quote: His eyes softened as he locked them with hers. “You have slayed me though, Alex. Completely and utterly. With your beauty, the way you handle a gun…”

I couldn't put this book down the beginning was intense, then the humor was excellent and the ugly cry came later this book was amazing! Also the cliffhanger or more like a tease grabbed my full attention, can't. Wait. For. The. Next. One!

Some of the truth comes out

Beck is part of a team of two protecting Mehgan and Tide in a human town. Things go wrong and he ends up wounded, with the slayer Alex in a cave while he heals. He doesn't want to like her but he is attracted to her and can tell that she is attracted to him too.
Things again go wrong and both of them end up at her father's mansion. Beck has tried to tell her that the slayers are the ones that are evil beings not the shifters. Things come to a head when Alex overhears a conversation involving her father.
Can they find a way to be together after slayers have been enemies against the dragons for so long?
This book ends in a happy for now way. I am excited about who the next couple in this series will be and I hope that Beck and Alex discover a way to correct the things that have made Alex public enemy number one to the dragons!

Is blood thicker than water?

Alex is on a mission to secure a dragon and his pregnant mate, when things go belly up. She ends up in a cave with an injured dragon whom she can see despises her. Deciding on the seduction route, ends up complicating things further.

Beck needs to recover from his injuries, but he is angry with himself because he feels an attraction to the slayer he’s captured. However, even though he can see through her ruse, he plays along in order to heal from his injuries💕

I waited a little while before reading this story as I wasn’t sure what way the author would go with Alex’s character, but I really enjoyed it❣️ The story was fast paced and the underlying problem of a dragon with a slayer being seen as a betrayal to their people holds endless drama in the future. I look forward to finding out more about this couple and more about Page and Mountain😁

Tough read with triggers, open end, and start of a new story

The rape scenes in the beginning of this book were a little tough for me to read through. I almost gave up in the first quarter of this book. But since I'm part of the ARC team I forced my way through. Towards the end it got better for me, even though there's a cliff hanger. The story line is going to be continued in the next book of this series. This book is also the start of the next book in this series .Can't wait to read the hopefully happy ending of Alex and Beck. I love this Author and this is the first book I got tripped on.

Need more

A little disappointed with this story. I end up likening Alex and I didn’t think that would be possible. The story feels incomplete and needs better closure. That being said I love this series and if you are new to Charlene Hartnady books, then you need to start at the beginning with vampire Kong’s mate. There are several spin offs and this book can be read as a stand alone but you can’t full appreciate it without starting at the beginning. Plus there are great books a long the way. I will read the next book in the series, which is another spin off with earth dragon clan.

Great book

Another great read in this series, lots of action lying deceit and hot sex. Alex a human Dragon slayer is out to get a Dragon she believes they are a threat to the human race. Beck is a thoroughly alpha Dragon always on the hunt for human females to have sex with he is also a warrior. He is shot with silver but managed to capture the slayer Alex when she tried to capture Tide and his mate Meghan. He in turn is recaptured but helped to escape by her and love blossoms. A good read with lots happening but left wondering what's going happen between these two look forward to the next book.

Forbidden love?

I just got this book a couple of days ago. As I do with all her books I can’t put it down. I have read this author since vampire kings (great books btw). But this one has touched me in my feel goods lol I love the forbidden love story and I love when the hero gives up for love. I hate to think Beck has to leave forever but love conquers all so I am still holding out hope that he will be able to return to his home. That ending is the best yet leading into the next book. I enjoyed torrents book and tides but this one is my fav so far is this series.

This is the fourth book in the Water Dragon series & you really need to read the others to get the best from this one as the storylines continue through the series. This book features Alex who is the daughter of the head of the Dragon Slayers & Beck. It starts out very fast paced with Alex attempting to kidnap Tide & his mate but Beck was able to enable them to escape. This leads into the clash with Alex & subsequently the Dragon Slayers. I have enjoyed all of this series & as always you are left wanting more.

You slay me

Never thought Beck would settle down and who ultimately falls for is a doozy. With everything Alex did I dont see how the dragons will ever accept her. Now as much as I loved this book I was not too happy with the ending. It seemed they didnt really get a 100% HEA. Kind of left you hanging a bit with how it ended for them. There has to be more! But that cliffhanger is definitely interesting and I'm dying to know what happens next. Hopefully it intertwines the two story lines.

I enjoyed this little fantasy of a story about little Einstein, aka Stella that builds her own robot lover, well, boyfriend. They were funny and tender together except when Rob insisted Stella call him Daddy! She earns herself punishment spankings which she kinda likes, a lot. You will laugh, love and pray that Stella can figure out a way to have her robo boyfriend and keep him too. You just might shed a few tears too, but have faith that things can work out in the end.

Yes here he is Becks story. I have been waiting for this one. He is a arrogant man and he proves you just how much. He is a guy I would not want as a boyfriend hell no. But I still love his book. Alex is a really good character that i pretty much hated from the book before this one. She grew on me absolutely. A great book totally not what I expected. It's a must read in my mind. Have fun reading choose your reading time carefully I could not put it down. Be warned.

Alex is a slayer. She hunts dragons, trying to protect humanity from evil. Or so she thinks. All she has ever wanted was to have her father's approval. Prove that she is good enough so that maybe he will accept her. But can she accept his lies.

Beck is a protector. He hates the slayers, but hurting a woman goes against everything he believes in.

Loved Loved Loved Dragon Betrayal. Can't wait for the next book for more of Alex and Beck and to learn more about her sister Page.

WOW!!!!

Wow...Now what's going to happen to Beck and Alex only the writer knows, but I am on their side because love concurs all as they say. But will Torrent and Tide see it as a betrayal, I hope not. And now Alex sister Page is the one who was shot down and now in the hands of the Earth Dragon Mountain..wow can't wait for the next series in these stories wow what a ending...big fan as always Winzie19💞☺.

Enemies to Lovers.
I knew Alex couldn't have been a bad person as she seem to be. Alex, raised to believe Dragons are evil and a threat to humankind.
Beck, one of Tides guard who help kept his mate and him alive to escape. Nothing like a few days together of Beck and Alex alone to develop feelings. Ugh, I just love this story.
& omg, talk about plot twist with her sister! Seriously can not wait for the next read, definitely do not want to miss!!

Dragon books

I love everything almost. There's some plot holes but it is a really good read. I would recommend them but I recommend also not sweating the small stuff. The devil is in the details and the devil is not in these stories. But the story is still really good for a quick read and she makes you care for the characters. This one is a little disappointing but you can read it and you will see why. It makes Beck seem less than he should be. Sorry 😔.
