Another one for my defying-the-heat-wave-with-holiday-feelz shelf...

And before you ask: nope, this one didn't have the desired cool-down-effect either. Two endearing characters in the prime of their lives (read: mid-forties to pushing fifty), a love-at-first-sight story set in my second hometown (yep, insta-insta-INSTA-love, but there was magic in the air, so I just ran with it ;-) ), a Die Hard movie marathon aaaaaand on a...

Absolutely adored this superbly sweet Christmas love story! Thanks to his mother's final dying wish Chance travels to Skagit to see the movie theater where she met his father. There he encounters John, the owner whose life has crashed and burned. Throw in an adorable abandoned kitten and you have the recipe for sweetness and fluff! The author did a bang-up job on this book, wonderfully created characters, a couple of scorching hot love scenes,a beautiful restored movies theater and a town full ...more

A romance found in Skagit, Washington !

What a charming short story, so cute, heartwarming, and loving. Perfect for the holidays. Our main fellow, John, is losing his cherished theatre because his ex left and took all of his finances through stealing his identity. He is in the process of closing it down.
Across the pond, Chance is going to Skagit, to fulfill his Moms dying wish. But when he gets there, there are no lights on.
The men meet while rescuing a stranded kitten.

This wasnt my favorite story in the series. While I absolutely adored Chance and his assuredness that John was the man for him, for me, the instalove didnt work and I think part of it was John. There was something about him that I just didnt care for. He rubbed me the wrong way and I cant quite put my finger on exactly what it was.

Although not my favorite, this was still a sweet and sexy story with a bit of mystery that Ms. Keaton does so well. Recommendable!

Its Christmas in June! (for me at least, when Im reading this)

Okay, so a little bit different in this one we didnt already know the couple from the previous books, so I spent a little bit of time trying to figure out if I shouldve remembered them from somewhere or not. All the others featured characters from previous reads. It didnt lol but it didnt take away from anything in the story We did get a glimpse at Buck and Joey though!

We have John, who after a bad breakup with a man who emptied out

I loved this feel good story, which although set at Christmas, is a lovely read for any time of year. I also appreciated that the MCs John and Chance are a little older as I enjoy reading about older characters finding love. Although this is part of a series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone but I would recommend the series as its a fabulous read.

John and Chance are very different characters, but both nice guys. I loved how Chance is determined to win John right from the first moment

A promise to is dying mother sees Chance travelling at Christmas from his home to London to Skagit to visit the NorthStar movie theatre where his parents met. When Chance arrives he meets John, the theatre owner, who is in the process of shutting the place down so the bank can take it.
Chance and Johns romance is a story of insta-love which didnt initially work for me. It felt a little too forced to quickly. But once they

Love the Accidental Roots series, and this holiday story is a great addition. John and Chance are both dealing with losses, though different kinds, and John especially is totally disillusioned by everything at this point. But fate (or Chance's late mom, if you must) intervenes and with a dying promise to fulfill, Chance makes his way to the place his parents fell in love so long ago. It just so happens John owns the failing theater, and what happens next is a wonderful, sexy holiday story full ...more

What do a failing cinema, a lonely man, a crazy ex, awful weather, a son's promise to his dying mother, a stubborn kitten, scheming investors, dirty bankers, a spontaneous trip across an ocean, and explosive chemistry have in common? It's this charming, poignant, engaging, bittersweet, fast paced, emotionally charged, heartfelt, grab-you-by-the-feels, make-you-cry-tears-of-both-joy-and-sadness, and sexy story. Elle Keaton has written a fantastic holiday tale that had me hooked from beginning to ...more

This book was totally adorable. It was so fast to read. You don't really have to have read the rest of the series in order to enjoy this book. The characters are so sweet and you want to root for them even though it seems like they are going really fast. The kitten is super cute and a great way to pull the guys together. I love the town of Skagit and how they come together to support one another. This book made me feel great, a great read for Christmas or any time of the year! You should ...more

I'm ashamed to admit that I lost track of this series after River Home(book 5) so when it was brought to my attention that there were more entries in Accidental Roots, I gobbled them up. When a series I love has a Christmas story well it's as welcomed as finding one more package under the tree on Christmas morning😉. The NorthStar is a delightfully fun Christmas tale of finding love when you least expect it.

Magic can happen at Christmas! We meet John just as he receives a letter from the bank, a notice of foreclosure of his beloved theatre, The Northstar. He visits the bank and the loan officer, Colin Short is typically unhelpful and indifferent to his story. His ex boyfriend Rico, emptied his bank accounts and ran up his credit cards. John was spiraling deep into depression. He was ready to prepare his theatre for bank possession. Chance, made a death bed promise to his American Mom, to visit the ...more

I first read about John and Chance when I read Over the Hill which was Chance's best friend, Edmund's story. LOL I had to go back and read this story to get John and Chance's story and it was light and fluffy :)

John is having a rotten time since his ex-boyfriend drained all their accounts and ran away. Now he has a foreclosure notice from the bank about his theater The NorthStar. This will be the last Christmas he spends inside his beloved theater. He hears a kitten mewing one night and goes out

Swoony, fluffy low-angst fun.

Hands down my favorite Xmas romance novella of the past couple years. And Im a cynical atheist who reads a lot of these.

My biggest problem with romance novellas is that they always need more - more plot, more backstory. This time, I just want more of these two guys. And their cat.

Theres a lot of disbelief to suspend: the insta-love has a touch of miraculous to it, John accepts Chance and later his bff pretty easily into his home, and seriously, Johns theater

The Romancing of John Hall...I love it!

This is one of those feel good stories, that shows that good always overcome evil. John is down on his luck...thinking he is about to lose his theater. Out of nowhere comes this beautiful Brit being pushy and telling him everything is going to be OK. Chance is there, leaving his home country due to a promise he made to his mother. What he found was the person he is going to have his happily ever after with. Now he has to try and convince John who is scared

The NorthStar is a beautifully written sweet holiday story with all the feels. John is the owner of The NothStar Theater and is in financial trouble. He doesn't want to close but he feels he doesn't have a choice. Chance has come to the small town of Skagit from London to keep a promise he made to his mother. When he finds out the the theater isn't open and showing movies he takes it upon himself to change that. I loved watching the community come together to support John and help show him how ...more

This Christmas novella was a lot of fun. Poor John was going through a really hard time, both personally and professionally - though the issues were related. He wasnt in the mood for Christmas, friends, or fun; and he definitely wasnt in the right frame of mind for being open to a new love.
None of that mattered to Chance. He traveled to Skagit, Washington, from England to fulfill a promise he made to his dying mother. He wasnt expecting to find his future there, but he was most definitely open

Oh, the heat is HOT, and the physical chemistry is captivating so be careful you may just get burned all the heat coming off these pages. There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, holiday magic and shenanigans the good kind that makes you turn the page until there are no more to turn. John had fallen in love with a jerk who broke him emotionally, financially and on the verge of losing his theater he loved so much. In walks in sexy Chance with a little ...more

What a wonderful holiday romance full of hope, friendship and love at first sight. There's a great set of characters and you can feel the connection between John, the Northstar owner, and Chance, who's visiting from England fulfilling a promise he made to his mother on her death bed. He never would ha e expected to find the man he was meant to be with. Though its a quick love story, it doesn't feel rushed or fake in any way. There are moments of sadness, humour, surprise and support. The town ...more

This holiday story is not only of saving a theater but one that saves Johns heart and gives him and Chance a happily ever after they both want. A fast moving romance that has an ex thats difficult but it also has a villain of whom, I have to admit, I didnt see coming. His appearance came from nowhere and his animosity was unexplained, at least for me it was. The story was interesting it just had pieces that I didnt connect. A HEA came for the heroes, which I found nice, and the m/cs went off ...more

The North Star is by far my favorite of the Elle Keaton's Accidental Roots series. This novella is 121 pages of holiday goodness.

The North Star totally encompasses the feel of a romantic Hallmark movie. It's short, beautiful, and romantic.

With the small town movie theater going under, the romantic character arrives in town and helps him save the theater. Of course, not everything is a fairytale, as they also have to deal with some homophobia and an asshole ex.

The North Star is a delightfully

This was an awesome Christmas/Holiday romance. John is losing his business; his ex has racked up CC debt just before he left. Chance has promised his mother on her death bed that he would go to America and see the Northstar theatre. There he meets John at his lowest point. Chance feels like hes met the one. I loved this story!! It had a great cast of secondary character. Sooo good. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advance copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts ...more

The NorthStar is a book about overcoming adversity and love at first sight. John and Chance's story is sweet and a really nice Christmas story. It was extremely well written and was a heartwarming story. The characters are interesting and develop over the course of the book. The story continues with more characters in Over the Hill, but both can be read as a standalone as there are a HEA and no cliffhangers.

This was a rather lovely M/M read. I found the characters to be endearing and their growth was great. The plot was great and the twist towards the end was a bit of a surprise but I enjoyed it. It was well written and the emotions between the two characters were very clear to the reader. There were very many hidden gems and references throughout the work that makes it awesome.

I give this a five out of five stars. I found the plot and characters to be adorable and found I couldnt put it down.

This is a wonderful Christmas story that left me feeling good and with a huge smile on my face.
Chance instantly falls in love with John and its great to see such endearing characters, who are in their mid to late forties, get their HEA.
This is a fast paced read with lots of feels, a horribly shallow ex, the town coming together for one of their own and an adorably cute kitten who is very well named.

I've read several books written by Elle Keaton; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I cant wait to read more of books her books.

Never too late for love.

The Northstar is a delightful Christmas novella with MCs in their mid to late forties whove been unlucky in love so far. Meeting each other at the right time and in the perfect place sees history repeating itself in the best possible way. A lovely feel good story.
