Kim ~ It’s All About the Thrill
Cuteness alert! I loved this funny, snarky little rom-com! Grab your Firken ( fake Birken) and dive right into the world of Charlotte Rosen. This book just made me feel good. I smirked many of times while reading this book because this girl was just so funny.

What's not to like about Charlotte? She has got it going on. Living in LA she is privy to all the hip things (do people even use that word anymore)?! She has a cool job at The Influencer Firm which is featured in Forbes as being one of the

This is inspiriting, joyful, motivational and humorous! Yes, this is just what I need and what I want after my long waltzes with thriller genre.
I just finished this inspirational, witty women’s fiction book. I have to emphasize this is not a romcom, even though we have too many funny, awkward situations and coincidences like we get used to see at romcoms but this book is a woman’s second chance to find herself and rebuild her life kind of fiction. Thankfully we have a creative, intelligent

This book was just what I needed! Sweet, quirky, and delightful. Not really a romcom more like women’s fiction with a sprinkling of humor and a generous dollop of romance. This is the story of Charlotte who is in her 20s and lost her husband five years ago. Unsure of how to navigate being such a young widow and not wanting the label Charlotte has made it that no one in her life knows that she was ever even married. She has re-entered the dating field but treats it more like a math problem than ...more

Cute. Yes, that is exactly how I would classify this contemporary romance fiction novel starring our female protagonist, Charlotte Rosen. Working at an influencer firm and living with a quirky roommate, Charlotte continues to strike out in love. Heck, don't we all? But when a mysterious parcel shows up on her doorstep, Charlotte is confronted with the lesson that sometimes we have to deal with

Favorite Quotes:

She’s wearing a size XL Slayer T-shirt as a dress with a choke chain and Dr. Martens combat boots. The cool thing about Los Angeles is that one man’s freak show is another’s fashion icon.

“Hey, can you hand me scissors from the junk drawer?” Casey instead pulls a switchblade from her bra and cocks it open with the flick of her finger. They must not happen often, but I can tell she lives for moments like this.

Not a single inch of her body jiggles, especially not her fake double Ds.

Sweet, witty, and charming!

Husband Material is a sassy, heartfelt rom-com featuring the logical, grieving Charlotte who after unexpectedly receiving her late husband’s ashes back five-years after his passing realizes that the hurt is still raw and in order to heal and move on bridges should be mended, secrets must be revealed, and people need be forgiven.

The writing style is warm and light. The characters are quirky, reticent, and amusing. And the plot is a delightful blend of life, love,

I have to tell you up front that this book is absolutely nothing at all about what I thought it would be! And that, my reading friends, is a good thing! Based on the provided excerpts alone, I assumed that this would be a RomCom, Chick-Lit lite, toss away book to read between the more serious books that I was consuming. I could not have been more wrong!

Charlotte is a very young, too young, widow is who hides her grief - and her widowhood - in humor. Not even her flatmate is aware that she was

HUSBAND MATERIAL by Emily Belden is a contemporary women’s fiction story with elements of rom-con and romance genres included. This is a standalone book that deals with a young widow and how she deals with her life and those around her.

Five years after the death of her husband, Charlotte Rosen opens a box that contains the urn and ashes of her late husband who she thought was in a mausoleum in Pala, California. Suddenly, all her

I recently read Hot Mess by this author and absolutely fell in love with her writing. Color me tickled when I received a copy of her latest, Husband Material. Now, this book was not at all what I expected. I think with the beginning, the title and all the algorithm talk, I thought I was going to get a more dating disaster to true love kind of novel. Instead, I was reading a more somber story about Charlotte and her journey to dealing with her husband's ashes showing up at her door five years ...more

Emily Belden's second foray in fiction comes in the form of a young widow, hiding from reality into crunching numbers and leaving zero to chance - including her own dating life. When her husband's ashes arrive on her doorstep unexpectedly, five years after his death, her compartmentalized facade starts to falter.

Told with Belden's signature wit and heart, Charlotte makes for a lovable protagonist who you can't help but root for, as well as a cast of peripheral characters that are uniquely

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review.

I feel a bit sad. The potential with this book was pretty high, it's just that Belden ended up having a main character who wasn't that likable and also the romance felt forced.

"Husband Material" follows 29 year old Charlotte Rosen. A New York transplant, Charlotte initially worked in a different field than what she does now. Charlotte works for a social media influencer firm (yeah that's a thing now I

I enjoyed this book! It was a little depressing at times because obviously, our main character is still dealing with grief but it was sweet and funny too.

2.5 Stars

This book was okay. I didn't hate it but it really wasn't great either, so I didn't love it. Parts were relatable and some were even funny...but there wen't enough of those to merit even three stars. This book started with a good premise and initial character development for Charlotte, but just unraveled into a mess with additional characters never really being fully developed and lots of plot holes, predictable outcomes and loose ends. The secondary characters seemed to exist only to

Unfortunately, I had to call it quits shortly after the halfway mark. I skimmed quite a few parts from the remainder of the book, so I have a fairly good idea of what happens and I’m sorry to say that had I finished it, my final opinion would have been just as bad.

Husband Material is a contemporary fiction novel that had a great balance of humor and relatability. I really appreciated how the author Emily Belden built detailed characters that have a level of depth that doesn't always happen in this genre of writing. Because of this, I was really able to connect with the storyline and follow these characters on their path of grief and the process of moving forward. We met Charlotte who is a young widow that is trying to rebuild her life.

She has a great job at a social media analytic company, with the focus of bringing couples together. Charlotte has a gift of matching people based on her algorithms. I found this book to be charming and I loved the cover so much! I think it definitely has potential to be more.

I felt that Charlotte was a tad bit plain for me and was wanting a bit more spice with her. I think there was some charming moments with some romance and Charlotte discovering herself through the grief but I found it hard to connect to this one. I found myself getting more annoyed then enjoying the story.

I think at times it felt there was a bit too much effort being thrown in this one

I enjoyed this author’s book Hot Mess so I was looking forward to this one. This book is marketed as a romcom which it is and isn’t. There are a lot of light hearted romcom moments here but there are a lot of serious moments as well. Charlotte is a young widow that has surrounded herself with a controlled environment. She works with numbers and algorithms so there is no ability for chance and she chose her roommate with the same care. Her well constructed world comes apart when her deceased ...more

Do you ever finish a book and just think, meh? That’s what happened to me with this one, I didn’t love or hate it, I didn’t even really like or dislike it either, I just feel pretty apathetic about it overall.
