Sometimes I like to surprise myself and dip my toes into something different. I’m not a big poetry reader and when a friend mentioned this book of poetry, I thought I’d give it a try. It has some poems that I really didn’t understand or connect with but the ones I did connect with I really loved. The poems are diverse but are held together by time and knots. My favorite poem was autumn and makes me wish we were there with the crispy air and leaves changing.

“𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒎𝒏
𝑶𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒑𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒛𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒖. 𝑺𝒖𝒈𝒂𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒔 𝒚𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘, 𝒔𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒌, 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘. “

This is only a snippet of the poem but it took me to the autumn breeze with the leaves changing. I can’t wait for Autumn. It’s my favorite time of year!

Introspection is a time to understand oneself; to delve inside repressed emotions; to drift into an abyss and come out with a new perspective. Time and Knots by Taran Singh is a tangible representation of this journey of self-actualization. This book takes the reader through seasons through a person’s life, sorrows and possibilities.

With the busy and fast paced schedule of society it is easy to get lost in a material world of nothingness. Singh gives readers a break from noise. He explores life in its purest essence. Some topics revisited include: relationships, loss love and self transformation.

It starts with the books title: Time and Knots. It is a precursor to the human experience that the book dissects. Time represents current and past experiences, while knots explains the obstacles and trials we all must face and acknowledge. Everything in this collection is metaphorical, symbolic and lyrical. This is seen in the first poem “Pitch.” A passage states:

“...tales of human’s knots
screaming voids resilient streams
the ethereal shine
The lofty might
broken pulls and salient strings
dusk shadows and love pouring.”

This excerpt summarizes the book’s concept, and also the journey that the reader is about to go through.

For the reader, it is best to give this book their undivided attention. To understand Singh's perspective the reader must understand their own blockages, limitations and emotions. It is not a light read, but it is one that releases the reader into a lighter environment. This lightness comes from understanding one's own darkness and trauma. As a result, It is a transitive relationship between the reader and each word.

The titles are chosen deliberately. Every title has a double meaning, but the reader does not discover its intent until the end of each prose. Follow the words through its path, and you’ll find the antidote to life’s frustrations. It almost seems like this book comes into one's life at the right time. It is all done in Divine timing, but the reader must be willing to allow these messages to seep into their psyche.

Taking the time to understand the words and the seasons is necessary for the reader to compare their own life challenges. Without comparison there is no recollection, no reflection, no substance. Take the time to let it all sink in. Spend time with the book, or else the reader loses its messages.

Time and Knots is a beautiful book of poetry by poet Taran Singh. This collection was published in 2018. The book is broken down into sections y using seasons to lead you from Summer to Spring and ending with Void. Physically this book stunning. If you place it on your coffee table, you are sure to get comments on the exquisitely designed cover and beautiful aesthetic throughout the book. The level of detail given to the book is part of what makes the look so appealing, from the swirling design on the table of contents page to the Gurmukhi calligraphy at the beginning of each section.
The poetry itself throughout the book has a flowing language that sparks gorgeous imagery in your mind as you read. The topics fluctuate from poem to poem but overall look at the themes of time, memory, self, emotion, light, and dark. Reading this book, I simultaneously felt as though I was looking into the mind and heart of the author and exploring feelings and ideas that resonated within myself. I think this is because of the vulnerability that Singh shows in his writing, unafraid to explore any subject as long as he is searching for truth of feeling. It is hard to pick a favorite poem in this book because so many had lines that I found both beautiful and captivating. If I had to choose some of my top choices that I will surely come back to, they would be “Dark days leaving tangled knots,” “Autumn,” “Broken,” “Glow,” and “Void.” I also very much enjoyed that it was the last poem that was titled “Welcome.”
This is an exceptional body of work, and I immensely enjoyed reading each poem. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves deep and resonating poetry written in beautiful language — definitely a five-star read.

Time & Knots by Taran Singh is an emotionally moving poetry book. The author creates a surreal experience of what it is like to go through life working through the different problems- or knots, that arise. This book is exceptional, especially in areas of tone, diction, and imagery.
Time & Knots is somber and slightly nostalgic. It describes in great detail the raw emotion felt when life’s tragedies occur, and how time passes eventually working those knots out of the tapestry. The tone is partially set by the seasonal shift between chapters. Where spring brings new life, winter is a bit more harsh. The nostalgia comes with the vivid descriptions of past tragedies and pain, as well as how we as people grow from those hardships anew over time.
The diction used is phenomenal, expressing high intelligence and a true mastery of language. The vocabulary is carefully chosen to express ideas, and paint vivid images.
In fact, my favorite part of reading this book was the vivid imagery used. Every stanza is described artfully, so the reader gets a clear depiction of the scene. The imagery really helps keep the flow of the poetry consistent, as well as keeping the tone easily identifiable throughout the book.
All in all, I would recommend this poetry book to anyone who loves language, is going through a tough time and is looking for hope, or just enjoys being moved emotionally by poetry. It is one of the best poetry books I have read by far.

Sometimes we need a break from our usual reading. What better way to cleanse our minds than getting lost in a beautifully compiled book of poems. TIME & KNOTS has an array of seasonally balanced pieces of artistic excellence. Each poem has the ability to emotionally move your soul. Lately, I've been going through a reading slump. Who would have thought that poetry would be my cure?

Each poem is uniquely written for each stage of life. Every part is depicted by a different season. There, the reader is given the opportunity to feel every possible emotion that a human could go through. Taran's writing is so aesthetically pleasing to one's creative intellect. He will pull you in from the first line and not let you go until the end. I found myself freeing my mind and swaying with the sentiment of each poem.

I highly recommend TIME & KNOTS if you're looking for a powerful read that'll get your mental juices flowing. It definitely helped me feel the darkness and light within each poem. My favorite poem would have to be BLISS, amongst all the others. Something about those lines, hit home with me. Overall, it's a short and lighthearted read but, the message is empowering and full of strength.

Time&Knots, a first publication for Taran Singh, takes you on a journey through time, traveling on a string of colorful words and verses, flowing through each season, unraveling the knots to share memories of grief, betrayal, joy, and wonder casading together to create an inspirational look at time.
Each season has an almost rhymatic pulse that coincides with the characteristics of the physical season itself. Summer, with the heat pounding, heavy and loud. Autumn, a murmur of change on the wind. Winter, a smothering silence that can be just as loud as the others. Then there is the whisper of promise in Spring. All the seasons and candence coming together as it does time and again to create another loop on the ribbon of life.
This collection is both relaxing and uplifting. Your heart, soul, and mind will open and see that the passage of time is inevitable, as is the passing of the seasons.
In the end, it will make you think about your own time on the Earth, passing though the seasons on what seems like an endless, winding road with no destination. Let it motivate you and expand your out-look on time.

Time of Knots is not only aesthetically pleasing but maintains a format throughout the book which helps the poems flow naturally (thereby making it an easy read). His additional placement of phrases written in Gurmukhi purposely placed at the beginning of different sections, rather than take away from the pages, adds to them.

My favorite poem in particular that he wrote is called “Autumn”. As a preteen and teenager, I was obsessed with celebrating the different seasons and holidays which occurred in them. Starting in August, I would begin to get into the spirit of Fall and decorate my room with objects such as plastic pumpkins, leaf window decals, and mini scarecrows. Reading the poem not only conjured up within me feelings of nostalgia, but inspired me to get in touch with that side of myself again.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to all people who revere nature, respect nature, celebrate the seasons, and/or love poetry. Let its contents motivate you to write your own poetry (or create your own artwork) expressing your connection to the natural world and life.

In Taran Singh's Time and Knots, this poetry book is a collection of beautifully written and interwoven poetry that transports through the seasonal theme of nature. Through time, he takes us on an emotional journey from one season to nature on how nature lives, thrives, and dies, right until it reaches a deep void in the end. It reminds you of the circle of life for flora, like autumn leaves blowing away from the trees to a chill in the winter snow. Each powerful words is packed with emotion with intricate lines of symmetry in each free versed poem that brings forth the concept of time to view it through his eyes from his home. Each passage brings forth a message of hope that would warm your heart with peacefulness. All poetry lovers should check out this book and give it to send one they love.

Time & Knots is a beautifully written poetry book that moves along the emotions of the seasonal tides; summer, fall, winter and spring.

I love picking up this special book and randomly selecting a page. Getting lost in it’s written words and poetic rhythm is a treat.

It travels through the cyclical patterns of passing time and confronts real experiences. I always receive compliments on the physical book as well as it has a welcoming display. It’s easy to travel with and take along anywhere to read.

Time & Knots deeply weaves through building knots between an emotive awareness of relationships and the changing elements of the earth around us.

I love this poetry book!

Back a few months, I got this book not too sure what I was diving into. Most of my library is fictional book with long adventures, mystery, and suspense. Poetry has been a love of mine aswell.

Going into it, I thought it maybe like a lot of the other poetry books out there.

And thank god I was wrong.

I found myself having a hard time putting it down. I usually read short poems, not much interested in the long ones. But each one had a story to tell. No matter how long it was, the message behind them left me feeling fuzzy. Almost nostalgic. The obvious part of it being in the title.

Time.

Some of them make you reflect back on small things that weren't too impactful on your life, but left an impression. Others would cause your mind to dig deeper.

I would recommend this book if you are looking to relive old times, growing as a person, and reflect on the present we all should cherish.

I loved this book from start to finish. Loved the division of the seasons and selflessness of it. You can learn so much about yourself paradoxically when you focus outside yourself. This book is truly a gem.
