A quick-reading and well written short story set in the world of Fionn, O'Sullivan's retelling of the Fenian Cycle of Irish Mythology.

Unlike some of the other stories that follow Liath Luachra, the Grey One, this story takes place after many of the events of the Fionn series, while she resides at Ráth Bládhma. That said, it's not necessary to have read the entire series to find enjoyment in this story. It stands alone just fine.

Having read the two previous books about Liath Luachra..the Grey One...I was more than ready for more of her story. At the pen of Brian O’Sullivan, the third century, Irish warrior woman, comes to life vividly as a formidable character with a traumatic past. While out hunting with two boys from her home settlement, a woman warrior comes across the trail of a war band chasing down a single fugitive. Although reluctant to get involved, the unexpected actions of one of the boys drags her into a situation where there's no real winner.

Dark, and yet strikingly touching, this short book (more like a long short story) brings my favorite female character (Liath Luachra) to life in glorious complex and traumatic detail. The story follows on from the third 'Fi
