A remarkable book for a first-time author. The characters are so real--the abusive father, the reticent mother, the friends, but "Izzy" shows how painful it is to grow up in chaos and confusion with very little direction from the adults in her life. Thanks for grandfather. This is a good book!
I was totally gripped by this well-written story, which far exceeded my expectations of a debut novel. The author weaves interesting details of Jewish culture into the narrative, and the somewhat dark subject matter is skillfully balanced with delightful moments of wry humour. A triumph.
