What a fun start to a fantastic new series! This novel reads fast, in part because the pacing is fantastic, with new twists around every corner and some hilarious banter in between, and in part because the world building just draws you in. Set in San Francisco, this urban fantasy introduces an alternate America, where the paranormal community bubbles just beneath the surface of the "real" world, held in check by Voids--those who can't be affected by magic. The magic system is fully developed, co ...more

Thank you NetGalley and Sealook Press for this arc.

Another young witch / enchantress living in "hiding" with a Messiah complex and her hunky boyfriend "save the world" story. Yawn.

The author is very knowledgeable of the San Francisco area. The pacing is fast and fairly consistent throughout. But the story has been done to death with much better characters.

I’m a fan of urban fantasy so I was very excited for this book. Focusing on alternate historical America wherein people with paranormal powers live among the normal folks trying to frantically avoid the presence of the “Voids”. The main narrator Adrienne Morales is of Columbian origin and is running away from some horrific things in her past. Adrienne is an enchantress who channels magic through her artwork and also can pass of charms through her pieces. Things however catch up

2,5 stars for me.
A fast paced urban fantasy/mystery featuring an original magical system.

- A very original and captivating magical system.
- Easy to read.
- Fast paced narration.
- Lots of banters and humor.
- A likable pair of main characters.
- The identity of the “baddie” was a nice surprise.

- The romance felt very juvenile and tepid.
- The MC’s constant

I loved this book!

What a lot of fun! Magic was used in a different and relatively unusual manner, characters were young, but fun, and the storyline moved along nicely. I had a lot of fun reading it, even though it was definitely YA. I've never minded YA books, and books like this are why.

The banter among the characters was entertaining, the storyline engaging and all in all a quick enjoyable read. The

I had low expectations for this book, but apparently I should have had lower. I requested this book on a whim, hoping it was be a cheesy but fun fantasy romance, and that was not what I got at all. This novel is extremely lackluster, which is why I was grateful it was short. Every aspect, from the characters, to the awkward teen-like romance, to the goals and motivations, felt gen

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from NetGalley*

I enjoyed myself. It was direct and a nice combination of simple writing and complex story-telling that allowed the characters to add on all the complicated things on their own, making the reading experience fun and easy. Think of the feeling of pulling on fuzzy socks.

Adrienne was straight-laced, someone with a mysterious past that you knew about but didn't really KNOW, so the reveals here and there were fun. The (somewhat) mur

My first thought when I finished this book was one of exasperation. Why exasperation? Two reasons: I now have ANOTHER author I need to read, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I really was impressed by this book for many reasons which included great writing, wonderful characters, and a totally engrossing plot. I adored Adrienne, Desmond, and above all Kendall (a squirrel shifter) who completely made the book. I even liked Axel at the end. I also liked the unique universe the othe ...more

Spahn brings some unique ideas in the paranormal world. Had to look up Arcane to see what it meant. It means Secret and of course Artisans are those that make Art by Hand. Adrienne is an Enchantress full of power who uses it to create beautiful art that is sometime given a hidden charm. The problem is she is on the Run from her past and now since her discovery she is being stalked by the Voids. Read this series and get in from the beginning. Enchantress Undercover had some amazing world building with an emphasis on the creation of the supernaturals which I definitely liked. The pace was well maintained and the action sequences were strong and well thought out. Urban fantasy is my go to genre and this had plenty to classify as urban fantasy. And here comes the but...But, I did not connect or become in invested with any of the characters. I found a few interesting but without any investment, I just liked it.

This book is definitely the most unique world I've encountered in quite some time. I read a lot of paranormal romance and this was so refreshing and interesting that I absolutely could not put it down. As the start of a series, I'm 100% committed and cannot wait until the next book!

Adrienne is an enchantress - someone who constantly attracts and channels magic. Sounds cool, but she must always be alert to the amount of magic she accumulates, because too much is dangerous. She had a pretty trauma

A fast-paced and gripping book that I just couldn't put down. I loved the characters in particular Kendall, the squirrel-shifter who's character I found to be hilarious. I also was fascinated by the way the magical world blended with the ordinary. The way magic worked in this book was different to any other I'd read which made this book particularly riveting.

Adrienne works as an artist, creating objects by hand, but sometimes with a little magic mixed in. She works at a craft store and rents her space from the owner, Desmond, who makes furniture pieces. Another person who works as an assistant in the shop is Kendall, who also has her secrets. They all live in a part of the country where The Void Union are in charge and any sort of magical user should be registered, as well as any Voids – those who cannot be affected by magic.

I received an ARC of this book from Sealook Press through NetGalley. What follows is my real and fair review.

Branching out from my regular genres just a bit, I picked up Enchantress Undercover by A.C. Spahn, an urban fantasy novel that introduces readers to a somewhat complex magic system involving enchanters, Voids, and other paranormal creatures. Since I tend to read more high fantasy, this was somewhat new territory for me. Reading Enchantress Undercover made me realize how long it’s been si

Adrienne is an enchantress in hiding. The mundane world hasn’t yet accepted magical humans and is still trying to come to terms with the different and sometimes dangerous magical people inhabiting the earth. Adrienne had been flying under the radar of the cult which she escaped from and the magical Union that is trying to recruit her. All that is secondary when her boss/landlord finds out that she is an enchantress and his Void powers can eliminate her if he believes she’s out of control.

A compelling New Adult story of mystery, fantasy, magic and a pinch of romance. “Enchantress Undercover” is the first book in the series by A. C. Spahn.

The scene is set in modern day San Francisco. There are normals, paranormals and voids. The paranormals are a secret society held in check by the Voids - who are those who cannot be affected by magic.

Adrienne has a very big secret. Yes she is an enchantress which she has kept hidden from the Void. But she is in hiding from a more dangerous grou

This novel contains magic and the supernatural. Adrienne Morales is an enchantress who has been in hiding your years. Her past is something she wants no part of and is afraid of being found. She is an artistic and uses her abilities to "enchant" objects, for she is releasing her magic before it overwhelms and potentially destroys her. Enchantress Undercover was a quick, intriguing read about a young enchantress who is running from her traumatic past. She is an artist who enjoys selling her crafts and placing positive enchantments on the items in her shop. When she discovers another enchantress is trying to hurt humans, she becomes determined to stop the person behind the magic, even if it means facing her fears and the people who scare h

This was a quick read - nothing too deep, but a nice, light urban fantasy (and introduction to Spahn's series). The main character, Adrienne, is well-drawn, but the supporting cast is not as deep; maybe we'll get more about them in later installments.

The magic system itself is just complicated enough so that it's not just *poof - magic happens!*, which adds a nice touch to the world. I suppose it technically falls into the category of 'light romance', since there are a number of passages dedicat

I really enjoyed A. C. Spahn’s Enchantress Undercover (Arcane Artisans Book 1). It does what good urban fantasy is supposed to do, come up with imaginative concepts (such as the magic immune “Voids”, and their Union with its mission of executing rogue magic users, or the need of this takes eponymous enchantress, Adrienne Morales, to use magic or else face insanity) and then put them into a rousing tale. Definitely well done here and resulting in a definitely “fun read”. But for the fact that I’m ...more

I found this a wonderful story. Take a young woman, who is an enchantress and also hiding from her past, and pair her with a squirrel shifter and a Void, a person unaffected by magic, and what do you get? A little comedy, a little mystery and very light romance.

Adrienne ran away from a cult and has been hiding from them. She is also hiding from the Void Union because she believes they will kill her. When the store she works at gets attac

Thanks Netgalley!

I RARELY read books about magic. If it's about magic, it's not labeled magic. This one is about magic, but it was more about it being an art. Cause the main character is a crafter, which I loved. Hot glue guns FTW. How the author put people into categories, enchanters, voids, and normals. I wonder who would be what in the world? I really did not expect the ending, I tried so hard to figure it out before it happened, but I was still wrong. It was ominous at the end, you know there

this book just was not fleshed out as well as it needed to be. the concept was fine: an urban fantasy following an enchantress on the run. the story was just lacking. the world building needed WAY more attention; specifically the magic system & it’s rules. the plot was meh. the characters were meh but there was nice funny lines (kendall was great). Simply loved this book! The character development, world setting, and plot twists were wonderful. I found myself looking forward to the end of work each day to immerse myself back into the enchantress’ world.
When push comes to shove, my value on a story has more to do with how real the characters become to you while reading, and Enchantress Undercover had that particular magic.
I’m looking forward to reading many more adventures from this author!
