White Charms and Dark Secrets

Don't get sent to supernatural prison... That’s just common sense, right?

Being cursed with bad luck makes it impossible to find a decent job. Leaving me with no choice but some bar work in some very questionable establishments. If that wasn’t bad enough, my best friend has been accused of murder and is on the run, so I don’t even have my bestie to complain about it with.

When a twisted vampire-witch hybrid from Kier’s past shows up, I know that time is running short to find answers for the curse that plaguing me and anyone that gets too close.

When the only person that can save me is a four thousand year old demon that I’m pretty sure would like my head on a spike, what’s a witch to do?

Cece Rose is the proud owner of one dog, two cats, two turtles, and one annoying boyfriend.

She hails from Devon in the South-West of England, but dreams of sunny skies and sand between her toes. Although, whenever abroad, she'll moan about the heat and the sand that gets everywhere.

She has largely convinced all who know her that she's a vampire, mainly due to her nocturnal habits and tendency to bite. In reality, it's because her creativity only ever strikes when the sky is dark and the stars are shining. (Plus, it's actually quiet enough to concentrate on writing when everyone else in the world is sleeping.)

This is the second book in the Grey Witch series, and a continuation of Kayla’s story. I loved it. Kayla has her ups and downs and drama to suit. I couldn’t put it down. It’s even better than book 1.

CeCe has does it again. This series is really getting interesting. As with Black Spells and Twisted Souls, White Charms is at a faster pace. A lot happens in a small amount of time. And as always I am left needing book three, to find out what happens.

Kayla has a lot to deal with, and man she sure does need a lot of help with her curse. Poor girl can barely do anything, without everything blowing up, which is what happens when you have a bad luck curse put on you. Leave it to Kayla to begin working for Rhydian and get the cops called in. She is mistaken for someone else and ends up in The Tomb. There she is forced to call upon Solas, the demon. Which unlocks a chain of events that only Kayla can unleash. But it offers her a chance to be rid of this curse. Having to make a choice to trust a demon, or live the rest of her life with bad luck.

As I said a lot happens in this book, I feel like more is given in this one than in book one. There is a cliff hanger but I feel like its not a bad one. The relationships take a step forward on all fronts. I will say though that Darren is kinda getting on my nerves so I hope something better happens in book three with him. That being said I think Rhydian and Solas have become my faves. Overall White Charms and Dark Secrets is a great fast paced read that will have you on your toes keeping up with everything happening. After the ending I am left needing to read book three, I need to know how Kayla will react and decide what to do.

Y'all, this MC bites her lip more than the girl from 50 Shades 😂

I read this book at kinda a bad time I'll admit, since I'm absolutely obsessed with shipping a certain couple from a certain tv show right now, so any other romance just doesn't feel that compelling to me at the moment. Still, this book was a very fun read and from that ending, it looks like the real drama has only just begun and I am here for it!

The magic system and worldbuilding isn't exactly noteworthy here, seems like spells and magical artifacts just exist as they're needed, but let's be honest here, that's really not the point of the story, we're here for the reverse harem romance 😏

Reading this really takes me back to my otome game days, good times! I'm not really super into any of the guys as of yet (as I mentioned, I am currently busy obsessing over something else) especially since things have only just really started to heat up, but when it comes to fictional dudes, I am an absolute sucker for the evil ones, so I guess Solas would be my bias! (Yes, I know I have terrible taste in men, shh)

I'll get to reading the next book at some point, but probably not too soon, the romance in this series is really fun but my priorities are elsewhere for now.

2nd was just as good as the 1st

I love Kayla. She learns a lot through trail and error in this book and I have a feeling it's only going to get worse before it gets better. However bad it gets, I'm sure it's going to be one heck of a ride. Can't wait to see what she does next.

I liked it but the push and pull between the h and one of the H was too much for me. Moreover, I wanted it to be more about the romance. But it's okay, I get that this is a very slow-burn reverse harem. I just want to get to the good part now.

The first book was entertaining enough, but in this the heroine just got so annoying and even more TSTL that I just couldn’t enjoy it. Stupid heroines just grate on my nerves. Besides that she also behaving quite toxic and I wished her men would just turn around and run for their lifes.

The premise of the book is interesting. I enjoyed the first part of the book while the second part was pretty predictable for me, which isn`t necessarily a bad thing as long as the story is fun to read. In this case I couldn`t connect with all of the main characters.

I am bothered by the differences regarding the length of the book. The information giving at the goodreads website claims that the book is a full length book with 334 pages while the kindle version I bought only has 223 pages. I know there are always differences especially when you use a different script or format but this book felt rather short. As a result of the book being short is the lack of information you are given about the world etc. Throughout the book you don’t get a lot of explanations no matter if it involves the plot or the world.

To conclude this review the story is interesting but there is room for improvement.

Wow this book..I got to read this on Christmas night and best present ever!! I love the continuation of this story but poor Kayla just keeps trusting everyone around her and getting herself into more and more strife! I feel for Darren she is pretty hot and cold with him and I do not think he will like to share her with the other guys...but the guy can be quite needy. We learn a lot more in this book about Kier but there is still so much mystery surrounding Rhydian and Solas..what do they both want with Kayla? What is their history? I hope we get to find out more about them both in book three. I think the combination of all the guys are interesting for Kayla and I hope they all get used to sharing her 😋. This book captivated my attention from the very beginning and it was impossible to put down once I started...it is full of magic, supernatural creatures, emotions, mystery and action! I cannot wait for book three! Highly recommended

Poor Kayla, things are going from bad to worse to terrible for her. If only she put the bracelet on to suppress her magic. The story will have you addicted and wanting to read it all immediately. Without giving too much away, I love the slow development of Kayla’s relationships in this book and the twists and turns of the storyline, all ending with one massive cliffhanger.

White Charms and Dark Secrets is the second book in the Grey Witch series. I highly recommend this captivating series by Cece Rose.

I’d also recommend reading Grey Witch and Halloween Magic, which is in the Wicked Tales: An All Hallow’s Eve Anthology. This story takes place about 2 years before the first book in the series.

Oh snap.

Kayla frustrates me and I wanted to smack her for most of the book until the last couple chapters. But of course that’s when the unthinkable Happened and the consequences of it were realized. Still pretty slow burn, but think the ending of this book is the lit fuse that will make things pop! Super thankful it was put on KU because I love Cece’s books!! Cant wait for the next! Sneaky demon!

Ooooh lots of kissing

I love how Kayla always manages to fall into the worst possible outcomes! What could go wrong? Never tempt fate, as Kayla sure finds out. I do think she needs to get over her distorted sense of white equals right.

Getting better

Book 2 picks up soon after book 1 leaves off, throwing us back into Kayla’s unlucky life as easily as Solas can be summoned. It’s fun, a bit twisted and definitely an emotional ride fir Kayla.

Pros:
- Witty.
- Silas: I can’t decide if I love or hate him, if he’s a good guy or a bad guy.... then again, he is a DEMON!
- Starting to feel more like a RH.

Cons:
- why do shifters always get the raw deal? I’m feeling bad for Darren here.
- More questions than answers... but I guess that’s the point.

I don't like prisoner stuff but at least that didn't last long. Where is the public and huge apology from the department?? There were some loose ends and unrealistic stuff here, but the plot was still fast-paced and amusing. The main character is still likable, but I've dropped her down a peg since she started annoying me with her relationship rules that don't make much sense, and her general stupidity when it comes to dealing with the demon. I still don't see how this can be a RH that makes sense, but I appreciate slow-burn realism for this sub-genre like no other, so still along for the ride. Next book will be released February 27th. It's been pre-ordered. =)

Full review to come eventually.

The universe building is great, the characters well developed, the plot twists keep things interesting...

I just can’t stand the h anymore.

Have you ever read one of those “tops of all the movie plots that could have been resolved with a simple conversation” ? If there was one such top for books, this series would definitely feature in it.

I understand quid pro quo and miscommunications are necessary sometimes to keep a series going and interesting, but this h does it Every. Single. Time. Every new plot twist, every time there is a problem in her relationships ? She lies or keeps things secret. And for no other reason than “i don’t want to talk about it now” on top of it ! And when she means she doesn’t want to talk about something “now” that means “never”.

The book in themselves are well-written and interesting, so i kept reading until the end of book no.2, hoping at some point she would learn her lesson, realize that she only causes more problems and puts people in danger by not communicating with them, but it just never happened, and from what i’ve skimmed of the third book she just keeps doing the same thing in it. She also takes the dumbest decisions at the worst possible time every opportunity she gets it and is so darn proud she won’t back down from something she can’t do, just because she can’t deal with being left behind.

All the characters around her are expected to answer all her questions when she has them however, and do whatever she says without questions (she wouldn’t answer them anyway), which mean they often go into situations blindly and almost get themselves killed.

So, no more for me. I’m done.

Possible spoilers

This is the second book in the slow burn RH grey witch series. If you have not yet read the first book then you will need to as this book will be confusing otherwise.
Kayla is a witch cursed w bad luck. She gets thrown into a magic prison and in her escape accidentally let's a bad guy also escape and now she feels responsible. I'm the end she gets the bad guy. More importantly, the end has us seeing what she must do to end her curse and get her magic.
While some questions were answered from the last book, many more were introduced. Some questions really could have been answered in this book like how did she get misread and thrown in prison, why was the father intrigued by her or seemed to know who she was, etc. Hopefully these get answered sooner rather than later. Unfortunately this book was a short, quick read and ends w these cliffhangers. Otherwise it is a good book that is well written w the exception of some grammar mistakes. It has a promising future.
So far it is tame as it is certainly a slow burn reverse harem. She isn't going to fall into bed w the men easily.

Cute quirky reverse harem!😋

Kayla may have bad luck as a witch, but I personally think the Goddess evens it all out by surrounding her with such glorious hunks. Hahahaaaa... She should spend more time lounging with them and less time stressing. I mean c'mon, a hot werewolf who wants to claim her, a sexxyyyyy fae Prince who wants to give her the world on silver platter, a vampire/ black witch hybrid detective charming the pants off her, and a dark brooding demon who comes at her beck and call... Who wouldn't be relaxed by all that affection and attention?!?! Silly witch.

I adore each of these characters, especially the guys. Often in reverse harems the fellas are too much alike, or they are too flat, so characterizations begin to run together. In this series, there is no trouble telling the guys apart. They each bring something different and valuable to the table.

This is very much a slow burn so far, but with the way this one ended, the word slow may no longer be relatable to the word, BURN 🔥🔥🔥!!!!

White Charms and Dark Secrets is a great continuation of Kayla's very eventful story.

Kayla is a great character, down to earth and very real and relatable. Her bad luck does put her into some very crazy situations, but reading her reactions to them never gets old!

In this book we see Kayla battle the bad luck her family had been cursed with for generations, fight her attraction to not one but four different handsome and powerful men, and uncover more truth about what happened to her old boss Jay. Kayla's life is a chaotic adventure that I really enjoy reading!

And wow the cliffhanger on this book is a doozy. Not really that bad of a cliffhanger all things considered, but the implications it has for the next book and Kayla's future is just too perfect! I can't wait to read what happens next.

So dang good

I have so much love for these characters. The author does a great job of writing Kayla just awkward enough, just stubborn enough to be both likable and realistic. I enjoyed Kala’s continued journey and discoveries, as well as the mishaps her bad luck gets her into. But most of all, I enjoyed the further interactions with the guys - learning more about them, developing of potential relationships more - the whole thing. I had my favorites in the first book, but this one just shook it all up and now I am even more glad that the author is a firm believer in #whychoose! An amazing ending, slightly cliffhanger-ish, but really just a set-up of what to expect in the next book. I highly recommend this series, it might be my favorite from this author.

I really enjoyed this book! It was pretty exciting, and I liked the main character a lot. I did find the romance to be rather frustrating, but it was meant to be, and I'm sure it will straighten itself out. I will admit that my memory of the end of book one was a little hazy, but it wasn't too hard to get into this book. There were some shocking revelations/events 4.5 stars. I will read book three.

This is the second book in the Grey Witch series and it has been long anticipated by me. I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed book one. The book follows on from where we left book 1 and Kayla is struggling to hold down a job whilst wondering where her best friend is and dealing with her bad luck which seems to be getting worse. There are some laugh out loud moments in this book, particularly concerning Kayla's bad luck. The ending gives us a surprise. It's not a cliffy but it does leave you pondering just where things will go next. I'm very much looking forward to book three.

Great continuation of Kayla's story and her struggles. Between being cursed with bad luck and everyone having their own agendas nothing seems to go right for her. A case of mistaken identity, power struggles and personal relationship problems along with the ever present demon deals what more could happen? After that ending I can't wait to find out what the future holds for Kayla and the guys. Some interesting twists and turns throughout this second book and a creative and intriguing storyline. I can't wait for book 3.

Kayla is still plagued by bad luck, but when she's attacked and thrown into prison she needs help fast to get out. If that leads to the escape of two murderous convicts, it's something that she can take care after she's out. If only one of the escapee wasn't the father of one of her (almost) guys.

I love how Kayla is aware of her limitations and knows when to ask for help. We see her growing and admitting her feelings for the people around her. She just didn't fall in love with them, but her feelings grow with the story.

I was super excited to start reading White Charms & Dark Secrets because after I read book 1, Black Spells & Twisted Souls, with that semi cliffhanger, I wanted & needed book 2. The magnificent White Charms & Dark Secrets takes place a couple of weeks after the conclusion to Black Spells & Twisted Souls, we read that Kayla has & continues to pick herself up from a bad case of a bad luck curse. When you read this book, you're left hanging with wanting & needing book 3!

I loved it. It fed my appetite for the wierd and sexy and somehow still managed to pull at the heart strings. The internal dilemma that kayla was having trying to come to terms with how she feels about her fantastic furry shifter, the incorrigible fae, and the hard hybrid literally made me want to jump into the kindle and make her choice for her lol. Did she get screwed in the end....yeah....lol she absolutely did. How you ask? You have to read to find out huh?
