3.5 Stars. This is the third installment in the Cassie Tam Files. I have enjoyed this series and these books have all been a consistent 3.5 stars for me. The best way to describe these would be futuristic mysteries. As a guess, this takes place 20-40 years in the future. The tech is amped up but there are no flying cars or anything too fancy. The tech improvements are pretty believable for the time period. In this book Cassie talked a lot about what happened to her in previous cases. Because of ...more

P.I. Cassie Tam is back, just as sassy, with the same amount of snark and attitude, but this time, maybe just a little less fearless, because this time, she was the victim and now the police want her to be the bait. In a world where technology rules, and Tech Shifter gear popularity is growing, must she now deal with a vampire, too?

Who or what is LV48? Is it a secret weapon about to be unleashed on the world? Is it good or evil? What does it want with Cassie? What’s going on with her familiar, h

LV48, the third novel in the Cassie Tam Files series featuring intrepid private investigator (PI) Ms Tam, is another enjoyable addition to this queer sci-fi mystery series. Although it is the third book it works perfectly as a standalone, but if you wish to see Cassie evolve and grow it is worth picking up the previous two. Doyle's writing is easy to follow and he does a good job of immersing the reader in the story from the very beginning. There's a sense of foreboding and menace that runs thro ...more

Caz, my favorite P.I. is back along with her metal gargoyle Bert her artificial intelligence with another blasting case where she joins the police department to assist them after being mugged.

The story excited me and kept me on my toes to begin with. I loved the various intricacies of the plot. There was a rising tempo which matched my pulse rate. The plot captured the essence of the first two books and amalgamated with this new case where there was a pseudo vampire terrorizing the 'good' people

Matt Doyle's Cassie Tam Files just keep getting better and better. This outing has Cassie recruited to help the local police department try to track down a tech-augmented "vampire". The criminal has already left their mark on Cassie, and the cops need to use her as bait to lure the blood-stealing vamp back to finish the job.
Bert, my favorite familiar gargoyle/bodyguard is back (CAW!) and we get to know some of the members of the police force a lot better, with some great banter and camaraderie.

This is my favorite of the whole series so far. Love me some action. Just love how with each book, you are seeing so much more development with the characters. Not just the main character but all of them. You really get to see the police working as a team. Even the new character was a really nice touch. He added to the story, made you engage more because you wanted to know more about him.

Just can’t get over that end though, really loved how the fights were done and the whole action scenes. Was n

“Set in the near future, Addict combines the engrossing, tenebrous elements of 1930s noir crime fiction with the spectacle and possibility of science fiction.” – Extract from my review of Book 1 in this series.

I wanted to read LV48 as soon as its release was announced. Not only was it written by Matt Doyle, a highly active and positive member of the online LGBTQIA+ community, but the title was clearly a nod to Aliens – which happens to be on of my favourite movies.

This is the third book in the C

In the last book in Matt Doyle’s “Cassie Tam Files” series, hot-mess PI Cassie and her tech-shifter girlfriend, Lori, were enjoying the beginning of their shy courtship while Cassie got herself embroiled in the tangled mess of the New Hopeland criminal underworld. Things moved at a slow-but-stead

LV48 is a suspenseful continuation of ‘The Cassie Tam Files,’ which features even more twists and turns than the previous books. LV48 takes place shortly after the events of The Fox, The Dog, and The King and jumps right into the action.

What I love about ‘The Cassie Tam Files’ series is the feeling of the novels, you have these noir crime-mysteries taking place in this futuristic but still familiar world. I’ve always pictured these big cityscapes with steam obscuring the streets, dark danger fil

Even though I'm starting the series with this novel the book was easy to get engaged with. I didn't feel lost or confused. The characters were interesting and different enough so that each one stood out in my head with ease. I liked the idea of a strong female lead and I loved that her being a lesbian was a non issue (as it should be). I found the backdrop for the story interesting and I really wanted more of that (this is my only criticism of the story I would have loved more information on the ...more

4.5 Stars.

Another good series instalment in the futuristic New Hopeland with a favourite PI of mine, Cassie Tam.

LV48 revolves around a vampire Tech Shifter that has created waves in New Hopeland, and Cassie Tam is its latest victim. The NHPD make sure she joins them for this investigation, a little coercion is required as Cassie usually works for herself, but she has friends on the force and they work well together.

Bert is back, Cassie's AI gargoyle. I love his protective ways - Caw.

The mystery was much more solid in this one, and at some moments quite thrilling. I was a bit disappointed how much questions were left unanswered in this one. I really really hope there will be another book in the series. Cassie is a cool character, real bed ass without being unrealistically “super-human”. There are things she is good at, and there are things she is not. I loved the side characters in this story. We got to meet New Hopeland finest, and they all were quite interesting, multidime ...more

Vampires in New Hopeland?

LV 48 is the third of the Cassie Tam files by author Matt Doyle and follows the cases of Chinese-Canadian private investigator Cassandra Tam. Picking up shortly after the close of The Fox, The Dog and The King, life for Cassie has settled down a bit and she manages to get an evening out with her girlfriend, Lori. But wh

*I received a free copy of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

LV48 is the third in the Cassie Tam series and further develops the wider storyline of Cassie vs the Four Kings and New Hopeland’s culture of corruption.

Here are the familiar faces alongside Cassie – Bert, Lori and Ink – but we get to see a different aspect to Cassie’s work as she partners with the police to form a crack team to take down the latest threat to the city. I particular

An exciting new adventure for Cassie!

Cassie is attacked on her way home. In another exciting adventure, she finds herself getting involved unexpectedly in the investigation into why, and what attacked her, after expecting the police to help. With a vampire like creatures looming in the streets, threatening the city, Cassie is facing new and different enemies, Cassie is threatened with helping bring them down if she wants a clean slate from the law.

I love this series. Each additional story brin

It’s been quite a while since I’ve followed Cassie into the ever-murky waters that is New Hopeland. I’ve missed her, Bert and the other colorful inhabitants of this world. Doyle does a great job of presenting us with another great mystery, and of course Cassie does her thing as the titular prickly, yet lovable PI in the game. Stakes are higher than ever, the mysteries run deeper and the who knows just what LV48 actually is. What we do know is that Cassie is a target and she and the New Hopeland ...more

I have enjoyed reading Matt Doyle's Cassie Tam series and hope that he continues to write them. A great mix of mystery, sci-fi/cyberpunk and detective story makes them an enjoyable read.

That being said, I still find Mr. Doyle's style of endless description in LONGGGGG paragraphs a little hard to read. I think that this book in particular would benefit from more action and less description at times.

I enjoy the cyberpunk aspects of this series and Mr. Doyle's imagination is wonderful. I have alway

Matt Doyle has a neat future with tech-shifting, suits that give a person animal shapes; techno werewolves. P.I. Cassandra Tam’s third case involves a different sort of suit. LV48 (ebook from NineStar Press) is a suit that gives the wearer vamperic abilities in order to collect blood samples. Cassie is attacked, but the blood sample is broken in the fight to defend herself. Since the ‘vampire’ left a tracking chip, Cassie is drafted by the police as bait to lure the attacker in. I thought this was a pretty cool cover... and it’s perfectly fitting for this sci-fi mystery story.

LV48 is Book 3 in Matt Doyle’s Cassie The Tam Files series. I’ve enjoyed the first two, this one and look forward to more of Cassie’s stories. Although this is part of a series, each book is a complete story and necessary backstory details are presented. It works as a stand-alone.

This is a solid series and this third installment is a good continuation of the story. Cassie is a great character and I am enjoying seeing her develop and evolve throughout these books. I like the way the author is building on this world with each book as well.

LV48 left something to be desired. The books itself was not externely throughout, but had a good concept for a novel. I would still read this thrilling and exciting book that kept me guessing. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a thrilling mystery book.

There is a new threat in New Hopeland and P.I. Cassie Tam is not just the investigator on the case. She is a victim.

I am thoroughly impressed with the 3rd book in the Cassie Tam Files. LV48 was gripping, fast-paced and just as entertaining as the first two. This might be my favorite of the three.

I’m a huge fan of Matt Doyle’s writing. He has a really great talent in writing mystery in a Sci-Fi story. I was invested and surprised in the end.

There are a lot of characters, which could get confusing at times, but every one was very well developed. I love the characters that have shown up in each story, because th

This is my third Cassie Tam book, and the author's imagination continues to amaze me.

Although each novel introduces new futuristic technology, the descriptions are detailed and so well done that it's easy to visualize.  The drawings near the end of the book help explain the tech even more.  This time around Cassie faces a "light vampire" - which explains the title.  I love me some vamps, but these aren't the traditional vampires seen in most novels and and movies - no spoilers here.  Cassie is w
