Cuffing Season

Rate this book
Cuffing Season I wasn’t looking for a man. I was looking for a mentor. When renowned photographer Luca Romano returned home to teach a Photo Storytelling workshop, Hamilton University was buzzing. But a campus wide email warned us not to approach Luca if we weren’t selected to participate—and I wasn’t selected. I wasn’t looking to break the rules. I was looking to break into the industry. I knew getting photographed by Luca Romano would catapult my career. I hoped he’d call, but I had no expectations. I wanted to converse with him, pick his brain, expand my portfolio. That’s all. Listen… I wasn’t looking to be his muse. But I wasn’t going to tell him no. ** Cuffing Season is a standalone spin-off of Sweatpants Season **

For me the title was a tad bit misleading….But, of course I wanted to listen because Wesleigh narrated….She saved the story for me, because it was a bit dry. The story was more about the victim shaming women for enjoying life like a man would.

Cool read

The book was good but it finished a bit abruptly for me and lacked interactions with secondary characters. I would have liked to see a bit more of their relationship in the real world, how they copped with two people in a relationship and intense jobs. The epilogue was gave too much emphasis on the List boys rather than some sense of where the relationship was going.
I know she’s only 26 so I’ll give her some leeway but her reaction to him not calling her after their moment was ridiculous, even worse after the kiss backstage. She went straight to drama and didn’t try to have a rational read on the situation. It was indeed better to keep their moment to themselves until after her show. There was already too much noise around and she should have wanted as a business person to keep the focus off herself and on her line. You don’t need to be seen out there to feel validated and secure in someone’s feelings. A simple conversation and not jumping to conclusions would have been better. Her best friend was the worse. I get being there for your friend, but you have to have a cool head and try to look at things rationally. Not pump her up and follow her down the rabbit hole. All this crying after he was arrested was also unnecessary.
As an aside I’m glad the author didn’t go for the cliché sabotage of her show by the jealous people around.

I absolutely loved this book. Don't let the thurst trap cover fool you, this book tackles serious topics-slut shaming, the double standards men exhibit concerning sexual history, and defamation of character. Ms. Allen pulls this off perfectly. This book was enlightening and entertaining. Daniel Allen hasn't missed for me. Happy reading!

Serena .. Luca .. Body counts .. slut shaming.

The way they went about tearing Serena down was insane because in the end she just came out on top. The way those men tore her to shreds based upon what a loser said about her ( because i believe that’s who said something )

Luca seemed a little too oblivious for me but I guess I can understand that semi! lol MAYBE..

I can say I am so happy how she stood her ground on slut shaming and Luca also didn’t let that be his 13th reason.

I just don’t understand why it took them so long to do anything about the podcast. That knew it was controversial and vile. I must say, I do love the attention that was given to the objectification of women and the double standard for sexuality.

Not a typical love story. Story of Serena and Luca finding their love. The end was not your usual HEA but was sweet. Happy to see The Lost Boys get what was coming to them.

It was a decent read. It was a slow burn, but the chemistry between the main characters was potent. I just felt like the resolution with the guys running the podcast was wrapped up too quickly for all the drama they caused.

This one didn't hit as hard as Sweatpants Season, but it was a good story nonetheless. Serena and Luca's chemistry was great, but I just couldn't get into them. This book was fun, sexy, and also had a great message to spread regarding slut-shaming, which I loved. The ending wrapped up a bit abruptly for me, and I wasn't satisfied with how things ended up. But overall, a good read.

Podcast bros are the worse even in a book! This is really a story about how difficult it is to be a woman. As the girlies say the dating pool has 💩 in it. The FMC is fierce, confident and determined. She would not let outside forces define her thank goodness.

“It’s hard to find people who get it, who are as ambitious as you, who grind like you.”

Thanksgiving is literally a few days away, the weather is cooling down quite a bit, and in many places, it’s sweatpants season. You know what season we’re also in? Cuffing Season.

Cuffing Season also happens to be the name of Danielle Allen’s latest novel.

Serena Brooks is a graduate student, model, and fashion designer. Luca Romano is a famed photographer with a current teaching stint at Hamilton University. She would love the opportunity to work with him; getting him to photograph her fashion line would be a major win. She can’t reach out to him directly so when an opportunity presents itself to work around that hurdle, she takes it.

They connect and become friends quickly – they were able to have really great conversations; showing each other sides they don’t normally show to the public. Luca is brooding, sexy and artistic. Serena is stylish, outgoing, and talented. They have a lot in common and they click.

Their friendship evolves into something else just as quickly, and while the attraction is evident – they don’t know what to do with said attraction. There is a lot of outside noise that makes their relationship or lack thereof, a lot more complicated than they had anticipated. Ignorant opinions, gossip, and the harsh light of critics make maneuvering for them a bit difficult; and puts Serena in a complicated position just as all of her hard work is about to come to fruition.

There are a lot of moving parts to Cuffing Season. It’s fun, sexy and passionate deals but it also deals directly with a lot of real issues such as slut-shaming and victim blaming. Conversations around partners and so-called body counts and what people may deem acceptable or not are explored in this novel. We are reminded about how damaging and harmful this shaming is. Who gives anyone the right to say what is acceptable about another person’s intimate life? Why are the standards different for men than women?

Cuffing Season has strong and relatable characters and a simmering passion that makes for a solid novel.

P.S. Cuffing Season is the standalone spin-off novel to Sweatpants Season. While it’s not necessary to read this novel beforehand to follow along, I would suggest picking up a copy.

**I received this book in exchange for my honest review.**

Sweatpants Season & Cuffing Season
By Danielle Allen
First of all, I love the cover and title for both of these books. The way it related to the story was so dope and unique.
Although Akila and Serena got on my last nerve at times, when they finally got it together, I loved their chemistry with Carlos and Luca. Both were felt tremendously!
Jennifer needed to have several seats because wasn't nobody checking for her narrow minded azz🙄
City Boy was on fqk boy shyt and needed to be laid out on a stretcher ASAP! Country wasn't nothing but City's yes boy and act like he was scared to tell his real truths on how he felt about certain topics.
I still think  Akila had double standards but you gotta read it for yourself and decide.

Simply Beautiful
Creatives are always looking for someone who gets them. Someone who sees the person they are on the inside, the person the world never gets to see.

Luca is the world famous hometown hunky photographer back to teach a class at the local university.
Serena is a talented fashion designer and model determined to bring the fashion industry to its knees. She just needs the right connection.

The instant connection between Serena and Luca is so sweet, funny, and crackling with sexual tension.
Cuffing Season was pure delight.

Wonderful

This was awesome. The flow of this romance was great. Serena was a great character. Her drive and focus was refreshing. Luca was just... whew. That podcast had my blood boiling. It reminded me of the conversations I see on social media. I really loved the direction the story went in.

Good spinoff but not great

I chose a 3 for this story because it was definitely a spinoff to Sweatpants Season and to appreciate the story you had to really know the significance of the characters from SS. I gave it a 3 because I would have liked to know more about the characters visually. The main character is a fashion icon and guru but there was little discussion of what she wore and the others around her compared to SS. The romantic scene was good, the author never disappoints, I just don't think this was as good as SS.

3/5 stars-- this one was fine but not what I was expecting as far as the romance build between the characters. Definitely lacked the spice in this one and was also women injustice heavy, which isn't an issue, except I picked up a ROMANCE novel. However, the banter and great choice in narrator for the audiobook will save a mediocre storyline every time! Loved the incorporation of characters from Sweatpants Season also. Overall, an okay read; entertaining but she has novels I've enjoyed more.

Cuff me

This was a follow up to Sweatpants Season and this book was phenomenal!!!! Serena and Luca were so in sync with each other from the beginning and the attraction was just there. Luca is such a charm and he do no wrong lol. Serena is my type of girl! Confident, smart, fashionista and a bad azz! The Lost Boyz are still horrible and they deserved everything! Bravo to Danielle once again for an awesome book. Definitely appreciated the messages throughout the whole book Serena is a boss

Nobody's Business

Well, the Lost Boys are at it again and the target...up and coming fashion designer Serena Brooks. Serena is what they are calling turning a "ho into a housewife" after she's seen with the famous photographer Luca Romano. Serena for one is not running around running up a body count, as a matter of fact she wants to forget Marcus her last hookup because he has a girlfriend she didn't know about! Luca and Serena have a professional relationship, but they have a connection that can't be denied. They understand and respect each other's work ethic and the chemistry is almost explosive. The Lost Boys are not making things easy for the situationship and Serena decides she will not be bullied. I loved this book as it continues from Sweatpants Season and addresses the double standard between what's acceptable for men isn't acceptable for women...nah bruhs, we not having it. If you haven't read Sweatpants or Cuffing Season...do yourself a favor.

I’m a fan of Danielle Allen. She always writes such great, interesting, and steamy stories with strong women. This story hit all those notes however I felt the issue she highlighted in the book, the topic of slut-shaming, was overly done and dragged the story on in some places leaving me a bit bored. The romance also took a backseat to this message, and I felt we didn’t get as much steam as we typically do in DA’s stories. And once we did get to that point, boom the story just ended. I wish there would’ve been more closure or an epilogue relating to the romance the two characters found. A bit disappointed, and it’s definitely not her best work. However I’m still looking forward to her next book.

Well told

I enjoyed Cuffing Season the brewing love story as well as the message it delivered as well. It is normal that women are objectified for owning and claiming their sexuality. Cuffing Season draws attention to the shaming and victimization that women are sometimes faced with when owning their own sexuality. Ms. Allen writes a well told story of a young lady that has to deal with thus issue and her strength and bravery as her character is slandered by speculation and outright lies. In the face if all if this Serena soldiers on and lives her life and claims the love of her man. Akila Bashira also makes an apoerance in this story also.

After reading Sweatpants Season, and loving it, I rushed to purchase this follow up novel. Initially I was intrigued. Serena and Luca played off of one another well. They were silly and fun and I enjoyed tagging along with them as they got to know each other.

Then something changed. The story lost its momentum. Serena and Luca's budding relationship fell apart over a misunderstanding. Not only is that trope frustrating to read, but it kept the hero offscreen for much of the story. He reappeared now and again only to make some new comment for the heroine to misconstrue.

I hated that the couple's failure to communicate kept Luca from joining in on the biggest night of Serena's life. He finally made his declaration at the end of the evening but he was overshadowed by prior events intended to further illustrate the issue of slut-shaming, an extremely heavy theme in this novel.

The Lost Boys, whom we met in the previous novel, were given far too much air time. On their second appearance, I nearly DNFed this story. I didn’t want to read yet another scene showcasing their ridiculous theories. We had already heard their entire show. Why were they given more time? The story began to read less like a romance and more like a public service announcement.

The objectification of women is an important topic. I wasn’t sorry that it was included, but the message was too heavy handed.

The hero and heroine could have better utilized some of the time devoted to the Lost Boys and all of the campus rumors to rekindle the spark which had been doused by their separation. Although the couple came together again in the end, I never regained that connection to them. They felt like strangers again and there simply wasn’t enough time remaining to get reacquainted.

I will purchase more from this author. I enjoy her writing style enough to give her another try.

In the sequel to Sweatpants Season, I was happy to find that it was just as good as the first book! Though it can be read as a stand-alone novel, it would be better to read the first book before beginning this one.

This is the story of Luca, the sexy photographer who is teaching a workshop on campus and Serena a beautiful model/fashion designer. The story delves into the world of gossip and rumors, led by those raggedy Lost Boys! Stemming from a jealous chick from his class that Luca refuses to give the time of day, it spreads across campus that Serena is sleeping her way to the top.

She is linked to at least five men who the rumor mill assumes she is sleeping with and used them to advance her career. Of course, like most rumors they are unfounded. The story also deals with the double standard of when men sleep with several partners, they are revered. While when a woman does the same thing, she is called every derogatory name in the book. She is chastised and ostracized while the men are cheered and put on pedestals.

The author did an amazing job of showing how this affect the lives of people who are otherwise just trying to make it in life. I found it quite ironic that Serena and Luca didn’t even have sex until close to the end of the book and only after they were in a committed relationship.

As always people need to mind their business! It is ridiculous the lengths some people will go to in order to stir up some mess.

Define Slut

Cuffing Season is a standalone spin-off of Sweatpants Season, therefore, you do meet four characters from that book in this one. If you read it out of order you can still follow along, but we do suggest Sweatpants Season first, to get the full scope of the backstory to this book.

Centered around Serena and Luca, their love story builds around the misconceptions of a professional relationship because of personal jealousies. It’s not riddled with steamy sex, but it does focus on building friendship and romantic intimacy which was beautiful. Their moments would keep you so engrossed that all you wanted to do was read more of that.

Now, it will have you angry throughout because it also tackles the much-needed discussion of slut-shaming and female liberation from Sweatpants and kicks it up ten notches. At this center of these treacherous lies are none other than Jealous Jennifer and the Loser Lost Boys. Two things made our day with story: Luca’s reaction and the consequence of the podcast. What we missed out on was Jennifer’s accountability and (because we loathed City Boy to our eternal core) his personal consequence. And we loved the fact that Akila’s appearance helped Serena.

Luca and Serena’s perseverance through the lies and rumors coupled with their moral compass not only proves why those who don’t subscribe to the degradation of others come out on top, but reiterates other people’s personal lives are... none of your business!

I tip my hat to the amazing and talented Danielle Allen. I know when I pick up one of her books that I will not only get a romance story that I love but I will also learn something and take away so much from one of her stories.
And Cuffing Season was a phenomenal read.

Serena is a fashion student who has built her reputation and her brand one step at a time. She is going to have her first fashion line show and is determined to make it fabulous.

Luca is a celebrity and one that is highly sought after. When he picks up a seminar at Hamilton his alma mater things are a bit crazy.

When these two meet the sparks start flying. These two are both career driven and both have an amazing disposition. And when they are together you get laughs and lots of swoony moments.

These two have to fight for their relationship. They have to fight off all the rumors and the lies that are spread. But they both come out on top.

This is so much more than just another romance this is story of fighting for yourself and fighting against bullying/slandering.

Highly recommended.

Okay, so, I was all in, totally invested and enjoying the story then BOOM, it was over. I was so confused. The two page epilogue was so underwhelming. The Lost Boys were a huge point of conflict throughout the entire book and a two page summary of events was insufficient in dealing with everything that took place. I still have so many questions! 😩

Did Serena ever do the project for Luca?

What happened on the trip to New York?

How did the shoot that Luca was doing for Serena go?

How did her line do?

Was there any type of fall out from Hamilton regarding Luca’s incident with City Boy?

Where did that girl who started all of these rumors go?

Did Marcus ever do anything to make things up to Serena?

What was the vibe on campus after City Boy got dealt with?

What was the vibe after Date Nignt was canceled?

Want was in Alika’s article?

Did Serena ever get an apology from anyone?

I could go on and on because I really felt like I got put out of the car in the middle of a busy highway. The book just ended…

Cuffing Season explored the topic of slut shaming and was a really good read. I remember Luca from Sweatpants Season and he left a lasting impression. I liked Serena & Luca's story mainly because Danielle Allen focused on how slut shaming is so prevalent in our society today. A lie turns into a rumor which can eventually ruin the reputation of a woman & in some crazy way elevate the status of a man. I also liked how there were consequences for the Lost Boys podcast. Danielle does an amazing job weaving in a serious topic as well as making you fall in love with the characters. I like how Luca didn't care about the rumors and how confident Serena was in this story. I also liked that Akila popped up in the storyline. City Boy was extremely disrespectful and he deserved that beat down from Luca. Overall it was a really good story.

I hope Kate & Paul get a story in the future!

Always Honest ♥️📸👗💙

This book is fantastic! It follows the instant attraction and eventual fall that Serena and Luca experience.

The way Danielle handles a very relevant subject having to do with slut shaming made me feel like I was part of the story. Through it all, I love how bold Serena is and how protective Luca is as they deal with unfair rumors.

I feel like there’s could be more to this story. What happens to Marcus~the guy in an open relationship that he failed to inform Serena about. How someone can be in a committed relationship and have sex with other people is beyond me. I liked how the author addresses this subject and allowed others to come to their own conclusions.

Overall, a really good book that has a wonderful love story with a surprise ending and a HFN for the MCs.

This book wasn’t what I was expecting when I show it. Cuffing season following Serena and Luca, Serena is a fashion designer and Luca a photographer.

Now this book talks more on the topic of slut shaming and I can say I enjoy it because men are told it okay for them to ho around because they are men but when I women does it she a whore or a slut… I was pissed off reading why the guys that was harassing her talk about how women are whore and such and why it okay for men to be a Ho and bro code.. just dumb shit that tiny dick men say.

Luca was a loveable man, he saw pass the bullshit they was saying about Serena and wanted to pursue a relationship with her outside of work now when he wanted to hide away so she wouldn’t get more rumors I was upset but then he came around and it was beautiful.
